DFS Main Slate Rundown 📰

A busy 10-game main slate arrives on Wednesday evening. The injury report is about as much of a bloodbath as you would expect for this time of season so keeping up with all of the news and developments will be as important as ever. I have to get some things prepared for MLB Opening Day tomorrow and also need to wrap up the PGA newsletter so today’s NBA newsletter will be fairly abbreviated. We’ll still try to cook up a strong approach for this huge slate. Best of luck!

Top Point Guards/Shooting Guards 🏀

PG/SG Jalen Green, HOU | DK: $8.9k, FD: $8.8k | @ OKC

As mentioned in NBA newsletters in recent weeks, factoring in postseason motivation can provide a viable edge at this point of the season. Thanks to a nine-game winning streak, the Rockets are currently just one game back from the Warriors for the final spot in the Western Conference play-in tournament. Jalen Green has been a major factor during Houston’s winning streak, and he has rocked a team-high 29.7% USG% in that span. Losing Alperen Sengun for the remainder of the regular season seven games ago has also unlocked Green’s ceiling and has led to him producing at least 47.5 DKFP/47.6 FDFP in five of the last six games. On paper, this wouldn’t appear to be a great match-up but the Thunder will not have their best defensive player, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (quad/out), available tonight, which certainly helps Green’s fantasy upside in this game.

PG/SG Miles McBride, NYK | DK: $5.6k, FD: $5.9k | @ TOR

The minutes continue to be absolutely insane for McBride, who has started in each of the last four games. Out of a possible 192 minutes, McBride has played 182 minutes in that four-game span. His usage is only around 13% and he’s averaging an uninspiring 0.70 FPPM as a starter L4Games, but when a guy is a near-lock for 40+ minutes, that certainly mitigates some of the per-minute fantasy scoring concerns. The Knicks will also be up against a Raptors team that has ranked 27th in DEFRTG since February 1st.

PG/SG Cason Wallace, OKC | DK: $4k, FD: $4.3k | vs. HOU (Preferred if starting)

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (quad/out) will be sitting out for just his second game of the season tonight. SGA is among the league leaders in usage with a 32.8% USG% this season, so there will clearly be some slack that other Thunder players will need to pick up. Cason Wallace is a leading candidate to earn a spot start tonight and play mid-30s minutes with the rest of the starters. Wallace started when SGA missed his first game of the season, way back on November 3rd. He didn’t have a remarkable game, but he did play 36 minutes that night. Wallace has been a bit more productive down the final stretch of the regular season and has averaged a respectable 0.81 FPPM L20Games. If he maintains that average while playing around 36 minutes tonight, he’ll easily return value on these low-end DFS salaries.

This game may not have a sky-high total (217.5 over/under) but this is going to be one of the more interesting match-ups of the night, and that is reflected in the close spread (ORL: -4.5). The Magic can take another step closer to locking up a guaranteed playoff spot with a win this evening and the Warriors are fighting for their lives to hang onto the final play-in tournament seed in the West. So there’s plenty at stake in this match-up and Paolo Banchero is a guy who could be poised for a big night. The Warriors have ranked dead last versus power forwards L10Games and Banchero racked up 57.5 DKFP/54.4 FDFP in the other lone match-up between these teams back on January 2nd.

SF/PF De’Andre Hunter, ATL | DK: $5.9k, FD: $5.9k | vs. POR (Boost if D. Murray is out)

The Hawks are ailing as three of their starters (T. Young, J. Johnson, S. Bey) have been out with various injuries, multiple reserve players are hurt, and they may not have Dejounte Murray (back/questionable) available tonight. De’Andre Hunter has started each of the last three games and, in the two non-blowout games, he has produced 38.25 DKFP/34.9 FDFP (vs. BOS) and 33.5 DKFP/33.3 FDFP (@ PHX) while playing 34 minutes in both of those contests. The Hawks take on a soft Trailblazers opponent tonight and Hunter, who averages around an FPPPM, brings plenty of 6x upside if he goes on to play mid-30s minutes again.

PF/C Aleksej Pokusevski, CHA | DK: $3.7k, FD: $4.6k | vs. CLE (DK Preferred)

There may be better/safer value that opens up later in the day as further injury news is clarified but, for now, Aleksej Pokusevski is looking like an intriguing cheap play, particularly at his $3,700 tag on DraftKings. Poku has been picking up quality minutes off of the Hornets’ bench, averaging 22.5 minutes/gm L6Games. He has posted a quality 0.94 FPPM in that span and could pick up some extra minutes in another potential blowout spot tonight (CHA: +10.5).

Top Centers to Consider 🏀

C Chet Holmgren, OKC | DK: $7.5k, FD: $8.1k | vs. HOU

Center feels like a relatively weak position today but Chet Holmgren sticks out a bit from the mid-range. He should take on some added offensive responsibility with SGA out tonight and he has found plenty of success against the Rockets this season. Holmgren has posted 1.44 FPPM in three games against Houston this season and he has averaged 53.4 DKFP/52.9 FDFP in the last two meetings. OKC is on the second leg of a back-to-back and Holmgren has averaged -23% less FPPG with no rest, but I like his chances of bucking that trend tonight.

C Brandon Clarke, MEM | DK: $3k, FD: $3.8k | vs. LAL (Currently Questionable - DK Preferred)

This is a high-risk punt play but if Clarke (Achilles/questionable) is cleared to make his season debut tonight, he’s going to at least be a bit intriguing at his minimum $3,000 price tag on DraftKings. Of course, even if he is active tonight, there is no way he plays heavy minutes. However, when healthy, Clarke is a guy who can well exceed an FPPM average so if he manages to play around 15 minutes off of the Grizzlies bench tonight, then he’ll bring some 6x (or better) upside to the table. It also doesn’t hurt that the Lakers are on the second leg of a back-to-back after playing a double-overtime game against the Bucks last night. But, again, tread carefully with this play because it could easily backfire (if Clarke even plays at all tonight to begin with).
