Point Guards/Shooting Guards to Consider 🏀
PG LaMelo Ball, CHA | DK: $9.3k, FD: $10.1k | at ATL
Ball posted a stellar season debut performance against the Rockets and operated with no apparent restrictions. He logged 38 minutes with a +14 plus/minus and put up 34 points on a 31.8% USG% with 11 assists, 8 rebounds, and a steal/block apiece -- good for 67.0 DKFP/64.1 FDFP. It’s going to be a tough performance to follow up on, but Ball has historically played very well versus Trae Young and the Hawks. Brandon Miller (hip/out) exited Wednesday’s game after playing 11 minutes, and his absence tonight will lock Ball into a massive usage rate.
PG Jalen Brunson, NYK | DK: $8.6k, FD: $8.8k | vs. IND
It was an opening night to forget for the Knicks as the Celtics simply could not miss from three-point range and coasted to a 132-109 blowout victory. Brunson was limited to just 24 minutes due to the blowout but, when he was out there, he logged a monster 37.8% USG%. We know Brunson is going to play 35+ minutes in competitive games, as this one should be against the Pacers (+4.5) tonight. A bounce-back performance should be in order for the Knicks’ home opener. Brunson is going to likely be a $9k+ guard for much of the season so we’ll pounce on these current prices and hope the recency bias keeps him at low ownership.
PG Tyus Jones, PHX | DK: $5.3k, FD: $6k | at LAL
It appears as if Tyus Jones will play a similar starting PG role as he did with the Wizards last season, except he’ll have a MUCH better supporting cast around him. Jones logged 35 minutes in the OT victory over the Clippers on Wednesday night and he contributed 11 points, 8 assists, two rebounds, two steals, and a block. He is not going to be a high-usage player while sharing the court with the likes of Devin Booker, Kevin Durant, and Bradley Beal, but he is still going to put up double-digit shot attempts many nights while being a primary facilitator to some great shooters. This match-up against the Lakers (-1.5) has the closest spread of the night and Tyus Jones simply sets up as a nice value at these current price points.
Other Guards to Consider
PG Trae Young, ATL vs. CHA
PG Tyrese Maxey, PHI at TOR
PG Steph Curry, GSW at UTA
PG/SG Cam Thomas, BKN at ORL
PG/SG CJ McCollum, NOP at POR
SG/SF Zach LaVine, CHI at MIL
PG/SG Austin Reaves, LAL vs. PHX
SG/SF Andrew Wiggins, GSW at UTA
PG/SG Davion Mitchell, TOR vs. PHI
PG/SG Dyson Daniels, ATL vs. CHA
SG Tre Mann, CHA at ATL
PG/SG Miles McBride, NYK vs. IND
PG Scotty Pippen Jr., MEM at HOU
SG/SF Jalen Wilson, BKN at ORL
Small Forwards/Power Forwards to Consider 🏀
PF Scottie Barnes, TOR | DK: $8.8k, FD: $9k | vs. PHI
It should be the Scottie Barnes show in Toronto tonight with Immanuel Quickley (hip/doubtful) and RJ Barrett (shoulder/doubtful) looking unlikely to suit up. The Raptors suffered a blowout loss to the Cavs on Wednesday, which ended up keeping most of the Toronto starters off the floor for the entire fourth quarter. In his 26 minutes played in that game, Barnes accounted for a quality 26.8% USG%. Immanuel Quickley played most of the first half before getting injured, and he was rocking a massive 39.2% USG% before exiting the game. Much of that usage should fall to Barnes. The Raptors are five-point underdogs at home tonight but the 76ers, who are still without Joel Embiid and Paul George, just gave up a cool 124 points to the Bucks on Wednesday, so they’re not looking to be a strong defensive team while two of their “big three” stars are sidelined.
PF/C Evan Mobley, CLE | DK: $7.8k, FD: $8.2k | vs. DET
Cleveland didn’t require the services of their starters for much of the 4th quarter in the aforementioned blowout win over the Raptors on Wednesday, but that didn’t stop Evan Mobley from racking up 50.75 DKFP/54.3 FDFP in just 27 minutes of action. Combining for five blocks/steals is always going to inflate a player’s DFS score but Mobley can routinely rack up those premium stats while taking plenty of high-percentage shots and crashing the boards. His 32.8% USG% led all Cavs players on Wednesday as well. The Cavs (-11) should have no major problems handling the Pistons tonight but if Detroit can keep this one fairly competitive and force the Cleveland starters to play normal minutes, it could be another big night for Mobley & Co. But it is nice to know that Mobley can also get it done from a DFS value standpoint in under 30 minutes as well.
PF Caleb Martin, PHI | DK: $4.9k, FD: $5.3k | at TOR
Before clearing the bench in the waning minutes of a fourth-quarter blowout loss to the Bucks on Wednesday, the 76ers ran a tight eight-man rotation featuring the starters (Maxey, Oubre, Drummond, K. Martin, E. Gordon) and three players off the bench (K. Lowry, G. Yabusele, C. Martin). Martin would go on to log starter’s minutes, playing just over 37 minutes on the night, which trailed only Tyrese Maxey for the team lead. So it seems quite clear that Martin will see plenty of time on the court even if he doesn’t start -- though, I believe there is a strong chance he cracks the starting five tonight. Martin can put up decent scoring numbers and solid peripherals while Paul George/Joel Embiid remain sidelined and he carries some very reasonable price tags into a favorable match-up tonight.
Other Forwards to Consider
PF/C Giannis Antetokounmpo, MIL vs. CHI
PF Paolo Banchero, ORL vs. BKN
PF Kevin Durant, PHX at LAL
PF/C Zion Williamson, NOP at POR
SF/PF Lauri Markkenen, UTA vs. GSW
PF Jalen Johnson, ATL vs. CHA
SF Franz Wagner, ORL vs. BKN
PF Jerami Grant, POR vs. NOP
PF/C Santi Aldama, MEM at HOU
SF/PF Rui Hachimura, LAL vs. PHX
PG Taylor Hendricks, UTA vs. GSW
PF/C Guerschon Yabusele, PHI at TOR
SF/SG Dalton Knecht, LAL vs. PHX
Centers to Consider 🏀
C Alperen Sengun, HOU | DK: $8.8k, FD: $9.2k | vs. MEM
Sengun balled out on opening night, pouring in 25 points on 22 shot attempts and collecting 18 rebounds to go along with five assists, four steals, and a block -- good for 66.0 DKFP/66.1 FDFP. His 34.3% USG% also led the team. These sorts of big games are nothing new for Sengun but they could become more routine as he looks to take a big step forward in his fourth year in the NBA. The Rockets only managed 105 scores in their first game and are being pinned with a strong 115.0 implied team total against the Grizzlies tonight. Sengun should find plenty of success against rookie Zach Edey, who fouled out in just 15 minutes in his NBA debut.
C Andre Drummond, PHI | DK: $6.8k, FD: $6.9k | at TOR
I have no issues going back to Drummond after a somewhat disappointing result in the season opener. Things went about as poorly as they could for Drummond and the 76ers, and he still managed to put up 27.25 DKFP/24.60 FDFP in 25 minutes. Not a great outcome, but it shouldn’t have completely killed your lineup if you had him in a couple of days ago. As mentioned in the Caleb Martin spotlight, Philly should be running a tight eight-man rotation until George/Embiid are back in the mix. Barring injury or early foul trouble, Drummond should continue to be a double-double lock and I’d look for him to get multiple blocks in tonight as well.
Other Centers to Consider
C Anthony Davis, LAL vs. PHX
C Karl-Anthony Towns, NYK vs. IND
C Jarrett Allen, CLE vs. DET
C Deandre Ayton, POR vs. NOP
C Myles Turner, IND at NYK
C Walker Kessler, UTA vs. GSW
C Wendell Carter Jr., ORL vs. BKN
