DFS Main Slate Rundown 📰

The first Monday slate of the new NBA season has arrived! Depending on your DFS site of choice, you’ll either be looking at a nine-game (DraftKings) or 11-game (FanDuel) main slate. The FanDuel slate will include the two 10 o’clock ET match-ups (POR at SAC & LAL at PHX) while the DraftKings slate will not. Whether you’re a DK or FD user, or both, there is a loaded slate ahead so let’s get right down to business. Best of luck!

Note: NBA position designations are never going to perfectly align between the major DFS sites. For the purposes of these newsletters, positional designations will default to DraftKings.

Point Guards/Shooting Guards to Consider 🏀

SG/SF Jaylen Brown, BOS | DK: $8.3k, FD: $8.7k | vs. MIL

The reigning champion Celtics have looked like a well-oiled machine through their first three games, leading the NBA in offensive rating, and Jaylen Brown has been a major reason behind that. His 33.4% USG% is just a sliver below Jayson Tatum (33.5% USG%) which has led to 20.7 FGA/gm. Strangely enough, he’s shooting just 31.6% from two-point range but has drained 45.8% of his three-point attempts (8.0 3PA/gm). The three-point shooting will likely cool off slightly as the season goes on but Brown is clearly going to begin to right the ship from inside the arc. Brown is also bringing down 8.3 RPG and has tacked on 2.0 STL/gm so he’s putting up solid peripherals to go along with the scoring. The Celtics are sizable 9.5-point home favorites against the Bucks tonight, but Milwaukee is certainly a talented team that could make this into a close, high-scoring affair.

PG/SG Kyrie Irving, DAL | DK: $7.5k, FD: $7.8k | vs. UTA

It’s going to be tough to see a ceiling game out of Kyrie as long as Luka is on the court but I still think there is some meat on the bone at these sub-$8k DFS price points. Irving may have to shake some offseason rust off, as he’s shooting just 37.0% from two-point range but he has still put up 19.5 FGA/gm through the Mavs’ first two games of the season while also snagging five total steals. The match-up is a real draw here as the Jazz rank 28th in DEFRTG and T-6th in pace which leads to Dallas owning a slate-high 122.0 implied team total. The floor for Irving is iffy for now but he does have 50+ FP potential in this game.

SG/SF Christian Braun, DEN | DK: $4.7k, FD: $5.9k | at TOR

For such a sizable slate, the amount of guard value options feels thin. FanDuel has wasted no time bumping up Christian Braun’s salary, but he does look like an appealing option at $4,700 on DraftKings. He’s locked in as the starting SG and has averaged 31.5 minutes/gm through the Nuggets’ first two contests. Braun won’t be a high-usage player but he is contributing very well in the rebounds, blocks, and steals departments while shooting an efficient 64.7% from two-point range. The Toronto Raptors have struggled defensively early on this season so if Braun logs another 30+ minutes, he should go on to have a solid night.

Other Guards to Consider

PG Luka Doncic, DAL vs. UTA

PG De’Aaron Fox, SAC vs. POR (FD Only)

PG/SG Donovan Mitchell, CLE at NYK

PG Fred VanVleet, HOU at SAS

PG/SG Jamal Murray, DEN at TOR

PG/SG Dyson Daniel, ATL vs. WAS (DK Preferred)

PG Scotty Pippen Jr. vs. CHI (Bump if Morant is out)

PG/SF Anthony Black, ORL vs. IND

Small Forwards/Power Forwards to Consider 🏀

SF/PF Jayson Tatum, BOS | DK: $9.7k, FD: $10.4k | vs. MIL

Tatum has been lighting it up from three-point land, shooting 48.6% 3P% on 11.7 3PA/gm. The peripherals have also been solid -- 6.3 RPG, 6.0 APG, and 2.0 BLK+STL/gm -- and I’d expect his rebound averages to only increase considering he has averaged at least 8.0 RPG in each of the last three seasons. As mentioned with Jaylen Brown, this game against the Bucks should equate to one of the higher-scoring contests of the night and Tatum should have another 50-60 FP in the tank. Until further notice, he’s simply a very safe high floor + strong ceiling play.

SF/SG Zach LaVine, CHI | DK: $7.4k, FD: $7.6k | at MEM

I’m not sure if it’ll continue but the Bulls currently lead the NBA in pace, by a fairly wide margin, and Zach LaVine has been a steady contributor across all three games while scoring 24.7 PPG on an efficient 63.6% 2PT% and 47.8% 3P%. Meanwhile, the Grizzlies have checked in at 2nd in pace to begin the season so there should be a ton of possessions in this game which holds a lofty 233 over/under.

SF/SG Bilal Coulibaly, WAS | DK: $4.9k, FD: $5.6k | at ATL

Coulibaly looks to take on an expanded role in his second NBA season and he has turned in two solid DFS performances while playing 30+ minutes in both games to begin the 2024-25 season. Both teams in this match-up rank top-eight in pace and Atlanta checks in at 25th in DEFRTG. He’s a better value on DraftKings but should be perfectly fine as a cheaper option on FanDuel ($5,600) as well.

Other Forwards to Consider

PF/C Giannis Antetokounmpo, MIL at BOS

PF/SF Kevin Durant, PHX vs. LAL (FD Only)

SF Jimmy Butler, MIA vs. DET

SF Franz Wagner, ORL vs. IND (Currently questionable)

PF/SF Jerami Grant, POR at SAC (FD Only)

PF Jeremy Sochan, SAS vs. HOU

SF/SG Gradey Dick, TOR vs. DEN

PF Nikola Jovic, MIA vs. DET

SF Zaccharie Risacher, ATL vs. WAS (Only if D. Hunter is out again)

PF Jamison Battle, TOR vs. DEN

SF/PF Naji Marshall, DAL vs. UTA

Centers to Consider 🏀

C Nikola Jokic, DEN | DK: $11.1k, FD: $11.8k | at TOR

Jokic turned in a triple-double in his first game of the 2024-25 campaign then followed that up with a 41-point performance against the Clippers on Saturday. As has been the case the last few seasons, Jokic will be in play virtually every slate that he’s on and the Nuggets should be highly motivated against the shorthanded Raptors tonight after starting the season 0-2. The Raptors currently rank 1st in Rebounding% but they’re also surrendering plenty of points in the paint.

C Clint Capela, ATL | DK: $5.4k, FD: $5.3k | vs. WAS

The Hawks will likely look to split the center minutes between Capela and Onyeka Okongwu for much of this season. However, with Okongwu (injury management/out) resting on the second leg of a back-to-back, Capela should see a bump in his playing time after averaging only 21.0 Min/gm across the first three games of the season. If Capela gets bumped up to around 30 minutes tonight, he should comfortably return value on the mid-$5k DFS price points against a Wizards team that typically struggles mightily versus opposing centers.

Other Centers to Consider

C/PF Anthony Davis, LAL at PHX (FD Only)

C Victor Wembanyama, SAS vs. HOU

C/PF Domantas Sabonis, SAC vs. POR (FD Only)

C Nikola Vucevic, CHI at MEM

C Jakob Poeltl, TOR vs. DEN

C Wendell Carter Jr, ORL vs. IND

C Derrick Lively II, DAL vs. UTA
