Point Guards/Shooting Guards to Consider š
PG James Harden, LAC | DK: $9.1k, FD: $9.4k | vs. PHX
It has steadily been the James Harden show to begin the season while Kawhi Leonard (knee) still seems weeks away from making his season debut. Harden is averaging a points (23.5)/assists (11.3) double-double while rocking a 34.0% USG%, which is just 0.6% below the usage rate of Luka Doncic. The Clippers are on the second leg of a back-to-back but Harden didnāt log massive minutes last night (32) in the one-point loss to the Trailblazers. No real match-up concerns as Harden has already gone for 56.5 DKFP/50.4 FDFP against the Suns in the season opener, albeit in an overtime game playing 40 minutes. Nonetheless, heās a clear spend-up guard play on this eveningās small slate.
PG/SG Kyrie Irving, DAL | DK: $7.5k, FD: $8.1k | vs. HOU
The prices on Irving still feel too cheap even though heās sharing the lionās share of the team usage with Luka Doncic. As a reminder, Irving was often priced as an upper-$8k/low-$9k player last season even when Luka wasnāt sidelined. Also, adding Klay Thompson to the mix doesnāt seem to be hurting Irvingās upside and, if anything, it has added more spacing on the floor for Irving to put up more uncontested shots. Heās firing a white-hot 53.8% from three-point range, averaging 23.8 PPG overall, and posting quality peripherals -- 5.3 APG, 3.8 RPG, and 2.3 STL+BLK/gm. Heās simply a strong all-around play until his salaries catch up to his on-court production.
SG Jordan Clarkson, UTA | DK: $5.2k, FD: $5.9k | vs. SAS
Jordan Clarkson received his first start of the season on Tuesday while Collin Sexton was sent to the bench. In response, Clarkson posted a season-high 21 points while corraling five rebounds and dishing three assists in 26 minutes. I would love to see Clarkson hit the 30-minute threshold, but at these current salaries, there is enough meat left on the bone for value even if he continues to play around 25-28 minutes. To no major surprise, with Victor Wembanyama being the elite rim protector that he is, the Spurs are allowing an NBA-low 29.0 points in the paint per game. On the flipside, 39.8% of the Spursā opponentās points are coming from three-pointers -- thatās the 4th highest percentage in the NBA. Clarkson has not been very efficient from beyond the arc yet this season (22.7% 3P%), but we know heās not afraid to let it fly from deep. Assuming he remains in the starting lineup, Clarkson is an appealing value guard option this evening.
Other Guards to Consider
PG Luka Doncic, DAL vs. HOU
PG Damian Lillard, MIL at MEM
SG Jalen Green, HOU at DAL
PG Fred VanVleet, HOU at DAL
PG Scotty Pippen Jr., MEM vs. MIL
PG Keyonte George, UTA vs. SAS
PG Tyus Jones, PHX at LAC
PG/SF John Konchar, MEM vs. MIL (Preferred if starting)
Small Forwards/Power Forwards to Consider š
PF Kevin Durant, PHX | DK: $8.6k, FD: $9.2k | at LAC
KD is still doing KD things in his age-36 season. Iām not sure if he can continue to handle his current 40.0 Min/gm average but the Suns will have him out on the court for as many minutes as he tells them he can handle. Through four games, Durant is averaging 29.0 PPG on a 28.9% USG% while sinking 45.5% of his threes, hauling in 7.0 RPG, dishing 3.0 APG, and producing 2.8 STL+BLK/gm. He still has a 60+ FP ceiling in the tank and the floor is generally going to be around 40 FP, so we can feel good about taking him at these price points tonight. The usage will only increase if Bradley Beal (elbow/questionable) is out or limited.
SF/SG Norman Powell, LAC | DK: $5.6k, FD: $5.9k | vs. PHX
All of those James Harden assists have to come from somewhere and many are cashing in on shots from Norman Powell, who leads the Clippers with 26.0 PPG. Until Kawhi Leonard returns, Powell is pretty firmly locked into this current role, and getting a guy under $6k who is averaging 18.5 FGA/gm is generally tough to come by. Powell doesnāt offer much in the way of peripheral stats but heās been efficient shooting from all areas of the court this season so weāll expect the scoring to keep on rolling tonight. Powell is more of a shooting guard but carries SF eligibility on both sites.
SF/PF Amir Coffey, LAC | DK: $3.1k, FD: $3.8k | vs. PHX
If youāre in need of a total punt for a āstars and scrubsā build, Amir Coffey may fit the bill. Heās averaging 24.0 Min/gm this season and, with the Clips being on the B2B, he should continue to see mid-20s minutes tonight. Coffey is not a high FPPM player whatsoever, and heās at just 0.52 FPPM this season. That said, he is making the most of his limited shot attempts, shooting 58.3% from 2PT and 44.4% from 3PT. If he can continue to be an efficient shooter while seeing a few rebounds bounce his way or an uptick in some other peripheral stat, then he should be a worthwhile bottom-of-the-barrel play this evening.
Other Forwards to Consider
PF/C Giannis Antetokounmpo, MIL at MEM
PF/C Jaren Jackson Jr., MEM vs. MIL
PF Jeremy Sochan, SAS at UTA
PF Santi Aldama, MEM vs. MIL (Preferred if starting)
PF/C John Collins, UTA vs. SAS (Boost if L. Markkanen is out)
PF PJ Washington, DAL vs. HOU
PF Jake LaRavia, MEM vs. MIL
SF/PF Derrick Jones Jr., LAC vs. PHX
SF/PF Naji Marshall, DAL vs. HOU
Centers to Consider š
C Victor Wembanyama, SAS | DK: $10.4k, FD: $11k | at UTA
In response to some lackluster results over the Spursā first four games of the season, many seem to be down on Wemby at the moment. But thatās putting a lot of stock in a small sample size. And, when a guy has the capability of putting up 80+ FP, you shouldnāt completely ignore them. This is also probably the best match-up that Wemby has seen this season. The Jazz are 9th in pace, 26th in DEFRTG, a middling rebounding team, theyāre allowing 7.1 blocks/gm (2nd most), and theyāve allowed the 3rd most points in the paint per game (54.5). Look for Wemby to bounce back after the awful game last night.
C Dereck Lively II, DAL | DK: $5.1k, FD: $5.6k | vs. HOU
Lively is blocked out of the starting center job by Daniel Gafford, but the Mavs prefer him off of the bench anyhow and typically give him 26-28 minutes. It generally works out better for Lively as well since he handles some run without mega-high-usage players like Luka and Kyrie on the floor at times. Lively is averaging a quality 1.17 FPPM this season and the Rockets rank 29th versus reserve centers, so weāll have no issues with the match-up.
Other Centers to Consider
C Alperen Sengun, HOU at DAL
C Ivica Zubac, LAC vs. PHX
C Brook Lopez, MIL at MEM
C Daniel Gafford, DAL vs. HOU
