DFS Main Slate Rundown 📰

We hit what I’d consider to be the “sweet spot” for slate sizes with eight games on the board this evening! A unique aspect of this slate is that every game will be part of the NBA’s in-season tournament -- the “NBA Cup”. For DFS purposes, we should treat this slate like any other normal regular season slate. Starters aren’t going to log 40+ minutes all over the place as they likely would in the actual playoffs. But, hey, this NBA Cup is a nice little wrinkle to throw in to switch up the monotony a bit. On the injury front, there are plenty of key players pinned with “questionable” tags today so this will absolutely be a slate where you’ll need to keep up with the latest news as it rolls in. Best of luck!

Note: NBA position designations are never going to perfectly align between the major DFS sites. For the purposes of these newsletters, positional designations will default to DraftKings.

Point Guards/Shooting Guards to Consider 🏀

PG/SG Devin Booker, PHX | DK: $8.8k, FD: $8.9k | at UTA

Kevin Durant (hamstring) is out for 2+ weeks so his 27.5% USG% and 27.6 PPG will need to come from elsewhere on this Suns squad. Devin Booker is an obvious candidate to pick up some of those Durant shots. In the first game of the season without KD in Sunday’s 118-127 overtime loss to the Kings, Booker played massive minutes (43), but he only took on a 23.1% USG% on 22 shots. He still came away with a respectable 48.25 DKFP/46.20 FDFP, but Booker’s usage rate really needs to be closer to 30% or above until KD makes his way back onto the court. I believe there’s a good chance Booker hits that mark tonight and the match-up doesn’t get much better. The Jazz are 24th in DEFRTG, play at the 6th fastest pace, and rank 29th versus starting shooting guards. As long as this game stays mostly competitive (PHX -5.5), anything below 50 FP would be a mild surprise from Booker tonight.

PG/SG Tyler Herro, MIA | DK: $7.4k, FD: $7.2k | at DET

We’ll be referencing plenty of injury impacts in this newsletter and another big impact goes to Miami, who will not have the services of Jimmy Butler (ankle) for the second consecutive game. In his last start this past Friday, Butler played just seven minutes before exiting the game. In that game, which was a 122-135 loss to the Nuggets, Tyler Herro logged a hefty 40 minutes and popped for 52.25 DKFP/47.9 FDFP while flirting with a triple-double (24/7/11). In Miami’s last game (no Butler at all), though his final stat line wasn’t as impressive as it was in the Denver game, Herro took on a team-leading 33.1% USG% and scored 36.0 DKFP/29.7 FDFP. Admittedly, that was a tough match-up versus the Timberwolves. The match-up with the Pistons tonight sets up better and, if Herro pushes for a 30+% usage rate again, then he’s a strong bet to drop 40+ FP this evening.

PG Keaton Wallace, ATL | DK: $3.2k, FD: $4k | at BOS

Another big injury on this slate involves Trae Young, who is missing his first game of the season with right Achilles tendinitis. That should lead to additional minutes for Keaton Wallace off of the bench. In limited minutes (14.3 Min/gm), Wallace has averaged a respectable 0.81 FPPM while shooting 50% from the field (41.2% 3P%) and he’s also contributing 2.2 STL+BLK/gm over his last five. Given that this could easily turn into a blowout (BOS -15), I could see Wallace playing anywhere from 20-30 minutes this evening, in which case he’s an easy candidate to return value on his bottom-of-the-barrel salaries.

Other Guards to Consider

PG Luka Doncic, DAL at GSW

PG Cade Cunningham, DET vs. MIA

SG Anthony Edwards, MIN at POR

PG Steph Curry, GSW vs. DAL

PG/SG Kyrie Irving, DAL at GSW

PG/SG Derrick White, BOS vs. ATL (Boost if Tatum is out)

SG/SF Bradley Beal, PHX at UTA

PG Terry Rozier, MIA at DET

SG/SF Dyson Daniels, ATL at BOS

PG Tyus Jones, PHX at UTA

PG Jrue Holiday, BOS vs. ATL (Boost if Tatum is out)

PG/SG Donte DiVincenzo, MIN at POR

SG/SF Klay Thompson, DAL at GSW

PG/SG De’Anthony Melton, GSW vs. DAL (Preferred if starting again)

PG/SG AJ Green, MIL vs. TOR (Preferred if starting)

SG/SF Grayson Allen, PHX at UTA

PG Ryan Rollins, MIL vs. TOR

Small Forwards/Power Forwards to Consider 🏀

PF/C Giannis Antetokounmpo, MIL | DK: $11.3k, FD: $11.6k | vs. TOR

Might we see a vintage Giannis takeover game tonight? The odds are good with Damien Lillard (concussion) out for the first time this season. In 83 minutes with Lillard off the floor this season, Antetokounmpo has seen a +9.8 fantasy points per 32-minute boost. The Greek Freak has also been a touch better at home this season, where he’s averaging a godly 1.76 FPPM (vs. 1.69 FPPM on the road). It’s also a strong match-up versus a Raptors team that is dead last in DEFRTG, 10th in pace, and ranks 19th versus starting power forwards. It’s still early in the season, but the 2-8 Bucks need to right the ship soon and, even without Lillard, this is a quality spot to do it. Giannis will be chalky tonight, but if he goes for 70+ FP again, you’ll be left in the dust if you have zero/limited exposure.

PF/C John Collins, UTA | DK: $6.3k, FD: $6.4k | vs. PHX

Collins has a shot to snag his first start of the season tonight with Walker Kessler (hip) out for the first time this season. Collins has averaged an excellent 1.33 FPPM this season but, unfortunately for his DFS prospects, he has only averaged 24.2 Min/gm off the bench. In the one game where he did play for 30+ minutes (11/4 at CHI), he exploded for 55.25 DKFP/52.1 FDFP. The Suns have been tough versus starting PFs this season but that has been with Kevin Durant (hamstring/out) playing every game but one up to this point. If Collins isn’t starting, I’ll be more lukewarm on him, but if he is in the starting lineup, he could be a low-ish owned player with 50+ FP upside… if the minutes are there.

SF/PF OG Anunoby, NYK | DK: $5.9k, FD: $6.5k | at PHI

Anunoby continues to play at a high level lately, averaging 37.3 DKFP/37.6 FDFP over his last five games. In that span, he’s putting up 19.2 PPG, 5.2 RPG, 3.6 APG, and 2.6 STL+BLK/gm across 36.4 Min/gm. From a DFS standpoint, this game does not stand out given its low 212.5 over/under, but there is a close spread here (NYK -3) and Joel Embiid making his season debut for the 76ers does add a bit of spice to the match-up. However it shakes out, Anunoby seems to have flipped the switch lately so we’ll anticipate him staying hot tonight.

Other Forwards to Consider

PF Jalen Johnson, ATL at BOS

SF/SG Jaylen Brown, BOS vs. ATL

PF/C Julius Randle, MIN at POR

SF/PF Josh Hart, NYK at PHI

SF/SG Brandon Miller, CHA at ORL

PF Tobias Harris, DET vs. MIA

PF/C Draymond Green, GSW vs. DAL

SF/PF Royce O’Neale, PHX at UTA

SF/PF Naji Marshall, DAL at GSW

PF/C Chris Boucher, TOR at MIL

SF/PF Taurean Prince, MIL vs. TOR

SF/SG Duncan Robinson, MIA at DET

SF/SG Johnny Juzang, UTA vs. PHX

Centers to Consider 🏀

C Bam Adebayo, MIA | DK: $8k, FD: $7.8k | at DET

Outside of a couple of duds, Adebayo has provided plenty of great DFS scores this season with a ceiling near 60 FP. No Butler in the lineup should mean more shots for Adebayo, though his usage rate has risen by just +2.5 percentage points with Butler off the floor this season. However, this is a promising match-up against a Pistons team that has ranked 22nd versus starting centers.

C Goga Bitadze, ORL | DK: $5.3k, FD: $6.3k | vs. CHA

More of a DraftKings play here since they still have not raised Bitadze’s salary to where it needs to be as the interim starting center while Wendell Carter Jr. (foot) remains out. In his four consecutive starts, Bitadze is averaging a superb 1.26 FPPM and he should have no major issues against Charlotte, who ranks 20th versus starting centers and is currently rolling out 80-year-old Taj Gibson as their starting five while Nick Richards and Mark Williams remain out.

Other Centers to Consider

C Karl-Anthony Towns, NYK at PHI

C Rudy Gobert, MIN at POR

C Daniel Gafford, DAL at GSW (Preferred if D. Lively II remains out)

C Mason Plumlee, PHX at UTA (Only if Nurkic is out)

C Drew Eubanks, UTA vs. PHX (Boost if starting)

PF/C Robert Williams, POR vs. MIN
