DFS Main Slate Rundown 📰
Group play for the NBA Cup resumes on Tuesday with six games on the board! One of the more highly anticipated match-ups of the early season will be on the ticket today with the undefeated 15-0 Cleveland Cavaliers taking on the defending champion Boston Celtics. This 2023-24 Eastern Conference semifinals rematch pins the Celtics as five-point home favorites so we’ll see if the Cavs can beat the odds to stay unbeaten. Unfortunately, there are quite a few star players who are either out or listed as questionable on this small-ish slate so things are going to get a bit tricky. But we’re up to the challenge. Best of luck!

Top DraftKings & FanDuel DFS Plays
Note: NBA position designations are never going to perfectly align between the major DFS sites. For the purposes of these newsletters, positional designations will default to DraftKings.
Point Guards/Shooting Guards to Consider 🏀
PG LaMelo Ball, CHA | DK: $9.8k, FD: $9.6k | at BKN
There is no shortage of star power at the point guard position today but we’ll put the spotlight on LaMelo Ball. Health has been an issue for Ball since he came into the NBA but he’s avoided any early-season ailments and has started all 13 of Charlotte’s games. He is rocking an NBA-leading 37.5% USG% this season, which has increased to 39.3% over his last five games. Ball should enjoy this match-up with the Nets, who rank 28th versus starting PGs this season and are 26th in DEFRTG. This game also features the closest spread on the slate (CHA +3) so there are fewer blowout concerns than some other games on the board today.
SG Jordan Clarkson, UTA | DK: $5.2k, FD: $6k | at LAL
Clarkson has been on a nice little run lately, averaging 33.8 DKFP/33.5 FDFP and 1.17 FPPM over his last five games. He’s contributing across the board in that span with 18.0 PPG, 4.6 APG, 3.8 RPG, and 1.8 STL+BLK/gm. Clarkson’s three-point shooting is still a bit rusty (28.0% 3P%) but he isn’t shying away from hoisting up a ton of shots when he’s out there. The Jazz are sizable +11 point underdogs but this game does feature a slate-leading 235.5 over/under and the Lakers have ranked 25th in DEFRTG on the season. Clarkson’s $6k on FanDuel is a fair price but he’s just a bit too cheap at $5,200 on DraftKings, so he’ll be a preferred target there.
SG Stephon Castle, SAS | DK: $4.9k, FD: $5.3k | vs. OKC
Victor Wembanyama (knee) will be out for a second consecutive game. Jeremy Sochan (thumb) is still out for the foreseeable future and Devin Vassell (knee) was a late addition to the injury report, now “questionable” to play tonight. Those are the top three players in terms of usage rates for the Spurs this season. Stephon Castle (19.9% USG%) is fourth on the team. So he should be taking on a sizable usage bump tonight. And, even with the Spurs being fairly short-handed, they’re “only” 9.5-point underdogs at home versus the Thunder. So, if San Antonio ends up keeping this one close, it’ll likely be due in part to a strong outing from Castle this evening.
Other Guards to Consider
PG Luka Doncic, DAL vs. NOP (Currently questionable)
PG/SG Donovan Mitchell, CLE at BOS
PG/SG Kyrie Irving, DAL vs. NOP (Major boost if Doncic is out)
PG/SG Jamal Murray, DEN at MEM
PG Darius Garland, CLE at BOS
PG Chris Paul, SAS vs. OKC
PG/SG Dennis Schroder, BKN vs. CHA
PG Jrue Holiday, BOS vs. CLE
SG/SF Julian Strawther, DEN at MEM
Small Forwards/Power Forwards to Consider 🏀
SF/PF LeBron James, LAL | DK: $10k, FD: $10k | vs. UTA
LeBron continues his age-defying crusade, and aside from a bit of a dud against the Pelicans on Saturday, he’s been posting elite results in the month of November. Prior to that last game, LeBron put up between 52.0 DKFP - 76.5 DKFP and 48.2 FDFP - 67.4 FDFP in his previous seven games. James has been at his best at home this season where he’s averaging a stout 1.66 FPPM (versus 1.32 FPPM on the road). He’ll draw an elite match-up versus the Jazz, who are 29th in DEFRTG and 10th in pace. To no major surprise, the Lakers are tops on the slate with a 123.3 implied team total.
SF/SG Jaylen Brown, BOS | DK: $8.1k, FD: $8.7k | vs. CLE
As touched on in the intro, this is without a doubt the game of the day, and even though the NBA Cup is nowhere near as important as the actual playoffs, this match-up should provide a playoff-esque atmosphere. Aside from a down game upon his return from a four-game injury absence, Jaylen Brown has been as steady of a performer from a DFS perspective as any player this season, averaging 43.6 DKFP/42.3 FDFP across his 10 games. He’s putting up 20 shots per game on a 30.5% USG% while tacking on solid peripherals (7.1 RPG, 4.0 APG, 1.5 STL+BLK/gm). Brown is fully capable of a 50+ FP outing on any given night, and, as mentioned in prior NBA Cup newsletters, the starters usually see extended runs in these games no matter what the score is, since scoring differential works as a tiebreaker for the in-season tournament.
SF/SG Luguentz Dort, OKC | DK: $4.8k, FD: $5.4k | at SAS
Lu Dort is never an exciting DFS play, but he’s cheap and has been stepping up his production ever since Chet Holmgren went down with a hip injury five games ago. Dort has seen the highest FP per 32-minute boost on the Thunder, and the second-highest USG% boost (behind SGA) with Holmgren off the floor this season. Over his L5Games, Dort has procured 29.4 DKFP/28.6 FDFP per game across 32.8 Min/gm. The Spurs are a middling 13th in DEFRTG this season, but they’re going to be much worse defensively with Victor Wembanyama sidelined, and Dort already has a strong performance against them this season (36.0 DKFP/34.7 FDFP vs. SAS on 10/30).
Other Forwards to Consider
SF/PF Jayson Tatum, BOS vs. CLE
PF Jaren Jackson Jr., MEM vs. DEN
SF/SG Desmond Bane, MEM vs. DEN
PF/C John Collins, UTA at LAL
PF Miles Bridges, CHA at BKN
SF/PF Trey Murphy III, NOP at DAL
PF PJ Washington, DAL vs. NOP (Boost if Doncic is out)
PF/C Grant Williams, CHA at BKN
SF/SG Dalton Knecht, LAL vs. UTA (Only if Hachimura is out again + Knecht starts)
PF Dorian Finney-Smith, BKN vs. CHA
PF/C Kenrich Williams, OKC at SAS
PF/C Trendon Watford, BKN vs. CHA
Centers to Consider 🏀
C Zach Collins, SAS | DK: $5.5k, FD: $5.4k | vs. OKC
With Wemby on the shelf, Zach Collins will be in line for a second consecutive start. He posted a quality 20-point, six-rebound performance in his first start of the season on Saturday. Collins also tacked on three blocks and a steal while coming away with 34.5 DKFP/37.2 FDFP across 26 minutes. Collins’ 31.4% USG% led the team in that game as well. Some foul trouble may have been responsible for limiting his minutes but, considering he’s averaging 1.10 FPPM this season, he’ll be an easy target for value assuming he plays around 28-32 minutes tonight.
C Dario Saric, DEN | DK: $4.7k, FD: $5.9k | at MEM
Jokic (personal) is out for a third consecutive game which means Saric should receive another spot start. He has provided some nice value over his first two starts, averaging a respectable 0.92 FPPM while playing 33.0 Min/gm. The Nuggets are taking on the Grizzlies in back-to-back games, so we’ll anticipate Saric putting up similar numbers as his game on Sunday (10/10/3 w/ two steals -- 33.5 DKFP/32.5 FDFP).
Other Centers to Consider
C Anthony Davis, LAL vs. UTA
C Jalen Williams, OKC at SAS
C Dereck Lively II, DAL vs. NOP (Boost if Doncic is out)
C Moussa Diabate, CHA at BKN
C Charles Bassey, SAS vs. OKC
C Jay Huff, MEM vs. DEN
