DFS Main Slate Rundown 📰

Following a quiet Thursday schedule, NBA smacks us with another gigantic slate. DraftKings will have an 11-game main slate on the board while the FanDuel slate covers all 13 games, with the inclusion of the two late 10 o’clock ET tip-offs. As to be expected on a slate of this size, there are plenty of injuries in play but, fortunately, there aren’t a ton of super important “questionable” designations to keep track of. Nonetheless, keep an eye out for any late-breaking news and adjust accordingly! Best of luck!

Main Slate Match-Ups w/ Game Totals & Point Spreads

Top DraftKings & FanDuel DFS Plays

Note: NBA position designations are never going to perfectly align between the major DFS sites. For the purposes of these newsletters, positional designations will default to DraftKings.

Point Guards/Shooting Guards to Consider 🏀

PG Cade Cunningham, DET | DK: $8.7k, FD: $8.9k | vs. ATL

Cunningham continues to excel in his fourth NBA year and now heads into Detroit’s 10th game of the season on the heels of back-to-back triple-doubles. He has been at his best at home thus far, averaging 1.33 FPPM, compared to 1.22 FPPM on the road. The 0.11 FPPM difference may not seem like much but stretched out across ~36 minutes, it can add up! We also have to love Cunningham’s match-up as the Hawks continue to play at a very fast pace (3rd in pace) while rating out poorly defensively (26th in DEFRTG). Vegas is pinning the Pistons with a solid 114.5 implied point total. If Detroit meets or exceeds that point projection, that would be a sizable jump up from their 106.3 PPG average this season.

PG Scotty Pippen Jr., MEM | DK: $6.5k, FD: $6k | vs. WAS

The 2023-24 season was an awful year for the Grizzlies, injury-wise, and this season isn’t off to an ideal start either. Superstar PG Ja Morant (hip) will miss tonight’s contest -- his second missed game of the season. Morant isn’t expected to be sidelined long but it thins out a Grizzlies backcourt that has already been playing without SG/SF Desmond Bane (oblique) and PG/SG Marcus Smart (ankle) -- both guys remain out tonight. So it all opens the door for Scotty Pippen Jr. to receive his first start of the season. Pippen has shown plenty of upside off of the Grizzlies’ bench this season and as an occasional starter last season. The one previous game Morant sat out this year (10/28 vs. CHI), Pippen put up a 14-point, 10-assist double-double off the bench in 31 minutes while ending the night with 40.0 DKFP/38.8 FDFP -- that was with both Bane and Smart starting and playing standard minutes.  Normally, in this situation, I’d say the Grizzlies may be too thin with injuries to compete with most NBA teams, but they’re at home tonight sitting at seven-point favorites versus the hapless Wizards. Much like last season, the Wizards have been a prime match-up thanks to their fast pace (2nd in pace) and lackluster defense (25th in DEFRTG). Memphis’ 119.0 implied team total is the second-highest on the slate and anything short of 6x value out of Pippen would be a mild shock tonight.

SG/SF Bennedict Mathurin, IND | DK: $5.4k, FD: $5.5k | at CHA

Mathurin has been an excellent value play over his last four games (three consecutive starts) -- in that span, he has played no fewer than 32 minutes while averaging 1.07 FPPM. He has shot an efficient 52.5% from the field this season while also racking up some solid rebounds (5.9 RPG). The Pacers own a slate-leading 121.3 implied points versus the Hornets tonight in a match-up that is rocking a huge 236.0 over/under. As long as Mathurin’s shot stays sharp, he should continue to pay off at these mid-$5k price points.

Other Guards to Consider

PG Luka Doncic, DAL vs. PHX

PG LaMelo Ball, CHA vs. IND

PG Jalen Brunson, NYK vs. MIL

PG/SG Kyrie Irving, DAL vs. PHX

Small Forwards/Power Forwards to Consider 🏀

PF Jalen Johnson, ATL | DK: $8.5k, FD: $8.5k | at DET

Spending up at forward doesn’t feel like the optimal move today but one guy on the pricier side that does stand out is Jalen Johnson. Johnson has exceeded 54 DKFP/52 FDFP in four of his last six starts and has played at least 38 minutes in those four big performances. I’m not sure if history can repeat itself, but the last time Johnson played the Pistons (April 3rd of last season), he went nuclear with a 28/14/11 triple-double with five combined steals/blocks and netted over 75 DKFP. But the fact that you can get a guy at $8,500 on both sites who has fairly consistently been popping for 50+ FP is reason enough to keep him in the player pool.

PF Tobias Harris, DET | DK: $5.9k, FD: $6.7k | vs. ATL

We’ll stay in this same game and give Tobias Harris a spotlight. I don’t believe anyone is ever excited to slot Tobias Harris into their lineups in the year 2024, but he’s been fairly solid with the Pistons this season, especially as of late. Over his previous five starts, Harris is averaging a respectable 33.5 DKFP/33.4 FDFP and 1.06 FPPM. What’s most notable is the fact that starting center Jaren Duren (ankle) is doubtful to play this evening, which would be his first missed start of the season. In 93 minutes played with Duren off the floor this season, Harris has handled a slight usage boost (+2.8%) but a sizable rebound increase to go along with +10.9 FP per 32 minutes. If he goes roughly 10 FP above his baseline tonight, then it’s reasonable to expect a 40-ish FP night out of Harris. And, as mentioned in the Cade Cunningham segment, it’s an excellent match-up versus the Hawks (fast pace + poor defense).

SF/PF Jake LaRavia, MEM | DK: $5.2k, FD: $4.9k | vs. WAS

Someone can correct me if I’m wrong, but I remember Jake LaRavia being a LineStar favorite from a season ago. Despite constantly popping off for 35-to-40+ FP nights, he would often go under-owned for a banged-up Grizzlies squad. Well, the Grizzlies are back to being banged up. While most of their injuries are in the backcourt, and I wouldn’t expect LaRavia to start, I do believe he pushes for 30+ minutes off of the bench tonight. In 68 minutes with Morant, Bane, and Smart off the court this season, LaRavia has handled a +3.5% usage boost. He’s a guy who can contribute in all five categories and the Wizards are always a fantasy-friendly opponent. There is some legitimate 8x upside for LaRavia tonight and he may very well fall under 10% owned on such a sizable slate.

Other Forwards to Consider

PF/C Giannis Antetokounmpo, MIL at NYK

PF Kevin Durant, PHX at DAL

SF/SG Brandon Ingram, NOP at ORL (Boost if Zion is out)

SF/PF Franz Wagner, ORL vs. NOP

PF Jaren Jackson Jr., MEM vs. WAS

SF/PF Michael Porter Jr., DEN vs. MIA (Boost if J. Murray is out)

PF Santi Aldama, MEM vs. WAS

PF/C Alexandre Sarr, WAS at MEM

SF/PF Kyshawn George, WAS at MEM

PF Peyton Watson, DEN vs. MIA

PF/C Grant Williams, CHA vs. IND

SF/PF Tari Eason, HOU at OKC

PF Kyle Anderson, GSW at CLE (Preferred if Draymond is out)

SF/PF Jarace Walker, IND at CHA

FanDuel Main Slate Only

SF/SG Paul George, PHI at LAL

SF/PF DeMar DeRozan, SAC vs. LAC

Centers to Consider 🏀

C Karl-Anthony Towns, NYK | DK: $8.4k, FD: $9.2k | vs. MIL

Is KAT’s recent production sustainable? That could be up for debate. But it certainly looks like he is gelling with his new team and, as always, Tom Thibodeau is going to give his starters as many minutes as they can handle. KAT has scored at least 53.75 DKFP/52.7 FDFP in three of his past four starts and has turned in a stellar 1.49 FPPM this season. He’s sure to have some battles with Giannis in the paint tonight but until KAT is pushing closer to $10k salaries, or if he regresses heavily, he remains firmly in play.

C Neemias Queta, BOS | DK: $4.5k, FD: $4.1k | vs. BKN

Queta’s salaries are on the rise but they’re not nearly high enough for the DFS result he should be able to turn in. Queta has started the previous two games for Boston and that role should be further cemented with Luke Kornet (hamstring) doubtful to play tonight. Queta is averaging a respectable 0.98 FPPM as a starter and projects for 28-32 minutes tonight. Quick math, and that works out to what should be easy 6x value on both sites. Per the LineStar Team DEF tool, the Nets rank 27th versus starting centers this season.

Other Centers to Consider

C Nikola Jokic, DEN vs. MIA

C Bam Adebayo, MIA at DEN

C Jarrett Allen, CLE vs. GSW

C Myles Turner, IND at CHA

C Daniel Gafford, DAL vs. PHX

C Goga Bitadze, ORL vs. NOP

C Isaiah Stewart, DET vs. ATL (Preferred if starting)

PF/C Xavier Tillman, BOS vs. BKN

C/PF Anthony Davis, LAL vs. PHI
