Point Guards/Shooting Guards to Consider 🏀
PG Tyler Herro, MIA | DK: $7.5k, FD: $7.4k | at BOS
Considering the Heat will be without Jimmy Butler and a few other role players, we’re likely going to see Tyler Herro handle a sizable chunk of the usage tonight. Via the LineStar Usage Matrix, in just over 100 minutes with the currently injured Heat players off the court this season, Tyler Herro has handled a +2.9% USG% boost but, more notably, he has averaged +14.7 FP per 32 minutes. The Celtics have been a juggernaut this season but they’re dealing with injuries to multiple key players of their own, so if this game stays close, we can expect Herro to push for nearly 40 minutes. Boston is a sound defensive team, ranking 8th in DEFRTG, however, they’re a subpar 21st versus starting PGs L20Games. Should be a good night for Herro and these mid-$7k DFS price tags are generous for the sort of upside he can provide.
PG/SG Dennis Schroder, BKN | DK: $7.1k, FD: $7.7k | at CHI
The Nets are another team that will head into tonight’s game fairly shorthanded, especially if Cam Johnson (ankle/questionable) is also ruled out. Schroder, who owns a 22.6% USG% on the season, is up to a 28.5% USG% and 1.13 FPPM average L5Games and he’ll get the elite Bulls match-up working in his favor. We’ve targeted the Chicago match-up all season -- they’re the fastest-paced team in the NBA and also rate out very poorly defensively (29th in DEFRTG). They also check in dead last versus opposing PGs L20Games. It’s looking like Schroder will command plenty of ownership on this slate but it’s hard to imagine him failing in this spot.
PG/SG Payton Pritchard, BOS | DK: $5.5k, FD: $6.1k | vs. MIA
Pritchard has been balling off the bench, averaging 1.32 FPPM and 24.3 PPG L3Games while scoring at least 35.0 DKFP/33.4 FDFP in that stretch. I’m uncertain if he’ll get the starting nod with Jrue Holiday out, but he should play a key role either way considering how many Celtics are either out or questionable to suit up tonight. I’d feel better about Pritchard’s overall ceiling if any combination of Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and Derrick White (all three are questionable) are ruled out, so stay tuned into the vital news coming out of Boston ahead of the 7:30 ET tip-off.
Other Guards to Consider
PG Trae Young, ATL vs. NOP
PG Dejounte Murray, NOP at ATL (Boost if B. Ingram remains out)
PG/SG Derrick White vs. MIA (Currently questionable)
PG/SG Ayo Dosunmu, CHI vs. BKN
PG/SG Terry Rozier, MIA at BOS
SG/SF Dalton Knecht, LAL at MIN
PG Mike Conley, MIN vs. LAL
PG D’Angelo Russell, LAL at MIN
PG/SG Keon Johnson, BKN at CHI
PG/SG Gabe Vincent, LAL at MIN (Only if A. Reaves is out + Vincent starts)
Small Forwards/Power Forwards to Consider 🏀
PF Jalen Johnson, ATL | DK: $8.2k, FD: $9.1k | vs. NOP
It’s tough to beat the consistency that Jalen Johnson brings to DFS lineups on a nightly basis -- it’s been nearly a month since he has scored anything below 39.0 DKFP/37.7 FDFP in a game. Johnson has stuffed the stat sheet across the board, averaging 23.0 PPG, 9.0 RPG, 6.2 APG, and 2.4 STL+BLK/gm over his last five starts. He should thrive in this match-up as the Pelicans are 26th versus starting PFs L20Games and Johnson had one of his biggest games of the season versus this New Orleans squad back on Nov. 3rd when he put up 58.25 DKFP/59.8 FDFP. He’s certainly in play on FanDuel but the $8,200 salary on DraftKings just seems too low for how well Johnson has been playing.
SF/PF Trey Murphy III, NOP | DK: $6.2k, FD: $7k | at ATL
After missing some time to begin the season, Trey Murphy seems to be up to full speed as he has played at least 38 minutes in three of his last four games. The Pelicans are on the second leg of a back-to-back but, due to a blowout script versus the Knicks last night, Murphy didn’t log heavy minutes (29) so I would assume that he’s ready to roll tonight. The Pelicans, who are 23rd in pace, get a significant boost tonight as the Hawks check in at 2nd in pace. Murphy has averaged +27% more FPPG in pace-up games. I’d like Murphy’s potential upside more if Brandon Ingram (calf/questionable) remains out, but he’ll still profile as a strong mid-range option even if Ingram does return to the lineup.
SF/PF Sam Hauser, BOS | DK: $4.5k, FD: $3.9k | vs. MIA
Here’s another Celtics player whose role could be elevated pending further injury news from Boston. Hauser filled in with a spot start at shooting guard for Derrick White yesterday and came away with a respectable 29.25 DKFP/30.0 FDFP across 36 minutes. Derrick White, along with Tatum and Brown, are of course questionable to play this evening. But given Hauser’s versatility, I believe he may already be a lock to start in place of the injured Jrue Holiday (knee/out). Time will tell but keep Hauser on the value radar for now.
Other Forwards to Consider
SF/PF Jayson Tatum, BOS vs. MIA (Currently questionable)
PF/C Julius Randle, MIN vs. LAL
SF/PF Cameron Johnson, BKN at CHI (Currently questionable)
SF/PF De’Andre Hunter, ATL vs. NOP
SF/PF Jaime Jaquez Jr., MIA at BOS (Preferred if starting)
SF/PF Haywood Highsmith, MIA at BOS
SF Talen Horton-Tucker, CHI vs. BKN
Centers to Consider 🏀
C Anthony Davis, LAL | DK: $10.8k, FD: $11.2k | at MIN
Center options are going to be limited on a four-game slate so I don’t mind just going with the best player at the position in Anthony Davis. The Lakers are on the second leg of a B2B and AD played 39 minutes last night, but considering he’s been able to stay healthy this season and hasn’t had any major issues in previous back-to-backs, I’m not going to hold it against him too much. The last time these two teams met was on opening night and Davis went on to drop a cool 71.5 DKFP/72.2 FDFP. The Timberwolves haven’t been quite as stout defensively this season and they also check in at a middling 16th versus starting centers L20Games. So it’s a fairly neutral match-up for Davis, but he’s a superstar who is capable of dropping 60+ FP on any team.
C Clint Capela, ATL | DK: $5.4k, FD: $5.7k | vs. NOP
Capela and Onyeka Okongwu (DK: $4.8k, FD: $5.4k) continue to split the center minutes fairly evenly for the Hawks but it has been Capela who has been the more dominant player on a per-minute basis. Capela has averaged an excellent 1.20 FPPM in 21 games this season and he has ticked that up to 1.35 FPPM L5Games. If he manages to play on the high end of his minutes range, which is around 26-28 minutes, he could end up clearing 30 FP with ease against this short-handed Pelicans team.
Other Centers to Consider
C Nikola Vucevic, CHI vs. BKN
C Bam Adebayo, MIA at BOS
C Nic Claxton, BKN at CHI
C Yves Missi, NOP at ATL
C Neemias Queta, BOS vs. MIA (Preferred if starting)
C Luke Kornet, BOS vs. MIA (Preferred if starting)
C Jalen Smith, CHI vs. BKN
