Point Guards/Shooting Guards to Consider 🏀
PG Tyrese Maxey, PHI | DK: $8.9k, FD: $9k | @ ATL
One of the highest-impact injury absences today will belong to Joel Embiid, who will miss tonight’s action due to a knee injury. Embiid has played in just two of the 76ers’ previous seven games. Tyrese Maxey has taken on a team-leading +6.6% usage increase with Embiid off of the court this season. Maxey has not necessarily excelled in every one of those games that Embiid has sat out, but it’s worth noting that he has been going up against teams that mostly play strong defense and/or operate at a slow pace. That won’t be the case today. The Hawks remain 5th in pace, 27th in DEFRTG, and they’ve ranked dead last versus starting point guards L20Games. The 244 over/under is the second-highest on the slate and the one-point spread (PHI: -1) is the closest spread of the day. This could be a game where Maxey plays over 40 minutes (played 40 and 39 minutes in two previous match-ups with ATL this season) and anything short of 50 fantasy points would be a disappointment.
PG TJ McConnell, IND | DK: $6.7k, FD: $7k | vs. WAS
Star guard Tyrese Haliburton (out) will miss at least a couple of weeks due to a hamstring strain which will result in a heavily expanded role for TJ McConnell. The Haliburton news was known well in advance of today’s slate so McConnell’s DFS salaries have seen a steep increase. However, there’s still some quality potential for value at these elevated salaries. Haliburton has sat out three games this season and here are McConnell’s stat lines and DFS scores:
11/1 @ BOS: 18/7/5, 35.75 DKFP/36.0 FDFP
12/2 @ MIA: 20/2/11, 40.0 DKFP/37.9 FDFP
12/16 @ MIN: 10/4/6, 29.5 DKFP/31.8 FDFP
McConnell came off the bench in the first two games [without Haliburton] while starting the third game. Two of those games also came against the NBA’s two best defenses (MIN & BOS) while the third was against a slow-paced, mid-pack defensive team in the Miami Heat. It’s unclear whether McConnell will start or play increased minutes off of the bench tonight, but this match-up with the Wizards is far and away the best one he’ll see in a game where Haliburton has sat out. McConnell has averaged an impressive 1.34 FPPM this season so if he can come close to 30 minutes tonight, there’s a strong chance he hits value even at these $6.7k/$7k salaries.
PG Tre Jones, SAS | DK: $5.8k, FD: $5.6k | @ DET
These two teams have a combined 8-64 record on the season so I don’t believe anyone will be tuning in for the quality of basketball being played. But when two awful teams face off, we can often get some usable DFS assets out of it. The game features a strong 238.5 over/under and a close spread (SAS: -3.5). Tre Jones entered the starting lineup in each of the last two games, putting up 33.75 DKFP/33 FDFP and 30.5 DKFP/30.4 FDFP while playing 35 and 34 minutes. Assuming he maintains his starting role tonight and plays mid-30s minutes, Jones sets up as a quality value option against a Pistons squad that ranks 7th in pace and 28th in DEFRTG.
Other Guards to Consider
PG Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, OKC | DK: $10.5k, FD: $11.5k | @ MIA (DK Preferred)
PG Trae Young, ATL | DK: $9.9k, FD: $10k | vs. PHI (Preferred if D. Murray is out)
PG/SG Terry Rozier, CHA | DK: $8.5k, FD: $9k | vs. SAC
PG/SG Tyler Herro, MIA | DK: $7.9k, FD: $8k | vs. OKC
PG CJ McCollum, NOP | DK: $7.8k, FD: $7.8k | @ GSW (Boost if Zion is out)
PG/SG Devin Vassell, SAS | DK: $7.3k, FD: $7.3k | @ DET
PG/SG Malik Monk, SAC | DK: $6.5k, FD: $6.6k | @ CHA
PG/SG Josh Giddey, OKC | DK: $6.2k, FD: $6.9k | @ MIA
PG/SG Andrew Nembhard, IND | DK: $5.2k, FD: $6k | vs. WAS
PG Nick Smith, CHA | DK: $4.2k, FD: $4.1k | vs. SAC (Preferred if C. Martin is out)
SG/SF Nickeil Alexander-Walker, MIN | DK: $3.8k, FD: $4.4k | @ BOS (Only if starting)
Small Forwards/Power Forwards to Consider 🏀
PF/C Miles Bridges, CHA | DK: $8.2k, FD: $7.9k | vs. SAC
I’m not sure paying up at forward will be a priority today. If Victor Wembanyama ever gets back to playing 30+ minutes, he’d fall into strong consideration. But we’ll give Miles Bridges a long look today. He’s locked into massive minutes (39.1 Min/gm L5Games) and the Hornets will be without LaMelo Ball, Gordon Hayward, Mark Williams, and, likely, PJ Washington (doubtful). Bridges is averaging 1.05 FPPM L5Games, which is nothing spectacular, but given his heavy minutes workload, he tends to provide a strong floor on a nightly basis. He’s far from a must-play, but Bridges will bring some 6x upside to DFS lineups tonight.
SG Bojan Bogdanovic, DET | DK: $6.6k, FD: $6.9k | vs. SAS
Bogdanovic will be one of the players who takes on some of the usage left behind by the Cade Cunningham (out) injury. In 160 minutes played with Cunningham off the floor this season, Bogdanovic has averaged +13.4 fantasy points per 48 minutes. Roughly half of his shot attempts are coming from beyond the arc and Bogdanovic is sinking 40.0% of his threes this season. The Spurs are allowing the second-highest three-point percentage in the NBA so Bogdanovic’s sharpshooter playstyle could work out well in a winnable game tonight.
PF Saddiq Bey, ATL | DK: $5.5k, FD: $5.8k | vs. PHI
It’s not an overly exciting play but Saddiq Bey generally provides a quality floor at his sub-$6k salaries. Pending further Hawks injury news, there could also be some added usage to go around to the healthy starters. Bey has started the last 20 games for Atlanta, averaging 27.2 DKFP/26.8 FDFP in 35.6 Min/gm in that span. The 76ers have ranked 20th versus SFs L20Games and he brings some moderate double-double upside tonight now that Joel Embiid will not be available to man the paint.
Other Forwards to Consider
PF/C Victor Wembanyama, SAS | DK: $8.9k, FD: $10k | @ DET (DK Preferred)
PF/C Karl-Anthony Towns, MIN | DK: $7.9k, FD: $7.9k | @ BOS (Preferred if Gobert is out)
PF Kyle Kuzma, WAS | DK: $7.8k, FD: $8.1k | @ IND
PF Jalen Johnson, ATL | DK: $7k, FD: $7.4k | vs. PHI
SF/PF Tobias Harris, PHI | DK: $6.9k, FD: $7.3k | @ ATL
SG/SF Bogdan Bogdanovic, ATL | DK: $6k, FD: $6.5k | vs. PHI (Preferred if D. Murray is out)
PF/C Naz Reid, MIN | DK: $5.2k, FD: $5.7k | @ BOS
SF/PF Aaron Nesmith, IND | DK: $5.1k, FD: $5.9k | vs. WAS
SF/SG Duncan Robinson, MIA | DK: $5k, FD: $5.5k | vs. OKC
PF/C Onyeka Okongwu, ATL | DK: $4.8k, FD: $5.6k | vs. PHI (Preferred if Capela is out)
PF/C Nikola Jovic, MIA | DK: $4.7k, FD: $4.5k | vs. OKC
PF/C Trey Lyles, SAC | DK: $3.9k, FD: $4.1k | @ CHA
Centers to Consider 🏀
C Alperen Sengun, HOU | DK: $8.2k, FD: $9.1k | @ CHI
There are plenty of great center options today and we’ll begin with Alperen Sengun AKA “Baby Jokic.” Sengun particularly stands out on DraftKings, where his $8,200 salary is as low as it has been since late November. He’s averaging a sturdy 1.39 FPPM over his last 20 starts and has actually averaged +11.8% more FPPG in road games. The Bulls have ranked 22nd against starting centers L20Games as well. This game doesn’t stand out due to a slate-low total (216.5 O/U) but it is expected to be a competitive game (HOU: +4). Sengun has put up 49.9 DKFP/48.2 FDFP in close games this season and this could be a 50+ FP spot for him tonight.
C Trayce Jackson-Davis, GSW | DK: $5.4k, FD: $5.9k | @ NOP
TJD has bounced in and out of the starting lineup over the last handful of games. He started the Warriors’ last game and posted a strong double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds to go along with three blocks and two assists -- those stats netted him 40.25 DKFP/41.2 FDFP. Jackson-Davis has averaged 1.16 FPPM as a starter, so if he’s back in the starting five tonight and can flirt with 30 minutes, he’s likely going to return value at these sub-$6k salaries.
Other Centers to Consider
C Domantas Sabonis, SAC | DK: $10k, FD: $10.2k | @ CHA
C Bam Adebayo, MIA | DK: $8.8k, FD: $9k | vs. OKC
C Jalen Duren, DET | DK: $7.1k, FD: $7.4k | vs. SAS
C Myles Turner, IND | DK: $6.8k, FD: $7.7k | vs. WAS (DK Preferred)
C Clint Capela, ATL | DK: $6.1k, FD: $7.2k | vs. PHI (Currently questionable)
C Paul Reed, PHI | DK: $5.7k, FD: $5.5k | @ ATL
C Kevin Love, MIA | DK: $5.3k, FD: $6.1k | vs. OKC (DK Preferred)
