DFS Main Slate Rundown 📰
For the first time in quite a while, we’ll be facing down a main slate that features a double-digit amount of games. Depending on your preferred site of choice, an 11-game main slate (DraftKings) or 10-game main slate (FanDuel) lies ahead. FanDuel has elected to exclude the Bucks/Nuggets match-up and both sites will exclude the one 10 o’clock ET game (76ers/Trailblazers) from their main slates. For the purposes of this newsletter, we’ll stick to spotlighting players from the 10 mutually shared match-ups today.
At first glance, I’m just going to go ahead and predict that the most popular lineup strategy for this slate will be to load up on Memphis value and spend up on Luka Doncic. That may very well end up being the optimal approach, but we’ll explore some other ways to go about attacking tonight’s slate as well. Best of luck!

Top DraftKings & FanDuel DFS Plays
Note: NBA position designations are never going to perfectly align between the major DFS sites. For the purposes of these newsletters, positional designations will default to DraftKings.
Point Guards/Shooting Guards to Consider 🏀
PG Jalen Brunson, NYK | DK: $9.3k, FD: $9.3k | @ CHA
Once again, we’ll forego spotlighting Luka Doncic (DK: $11.8k, FD: $12.5k) as he’ll be one of the more obvious plays on the slate with Kyrie Irving (thumb/out) still sidelined. Jalen Brunson won’t exactly be a sneaky play today either, but I’d imagine he checks in at about a third of Doncic’s ownership. The most notable aspect surrounding Brunson is that he’ll be playing without Julius Randle (shoulder/out) for the first time this season. Randle is expected to miss multiple weeks but, up to this point, he has been a workhorse who has played in all 46 games this season and has averaged 35.4 Min/gm, 24.0 PPG, and a 29.2% usage rate. Randle’s usage will have to be distributed elsewhere and Brunson, who has posted a team-leading 30.7% USG% L20Games, should be expected to take on a good chunk of the usage left behind by Randle. Both DFS sites have bumped up Brunson’s salaries to near season-highs. However, this is a soft match-up for the Knicks to draw in their first game without Randle available. The 10-34 Hornets head into this game ranking dead last in DEFRTG and Brunson has plenty of 50+ FP upside tonight. He is $9,300 on both sites today so we’ll certainly be content with a 50+ FP result and a 60+ FP score is a realistic possibility as well. Even without Randle available, the Knicks (-9.5) are the heaviest favorites on the slate, but I could see this game staying fairly competitive as long as LaMelo Ball (ankle/questionable) suits up.
PG Tre Jones, SAS | DK: $5.8k, FD: $6.4k | vs. WAS
This Spurs/Wizards match-up is a game only a DFS degenerate could love. Both teams have a combined 18-73 record on the season but there should be plenty of fantasy points to go around in this pillow fight. The game features a close spread (SAS: -4), a slate-high total (240.5 O/U), two very uptempo offenses (WAS: 1st in pace, SAS: 4th in pace), and two miserable defenses (WAS: 29th in DEFRTG, SAS: 25th in DEFRTG). Tre Jones has been playing well as of late, averaging 1.12 FPPM L5Games, and he has secured at least 29.75 DKFP/28.7 FDFP in seven of his last eight games. These two teams met nine days ago and the Spurs won by a tight score of 131-127 (258 total points). Tre Jones had one of his best games of the season that day, falling two rebounds shy of a triple-double and posting up 46.0 DKFP/46.6 FDFP in 32 minutes. We can’t necessarily count on a similar result tonight, but he does have some fairly strong 40+ FP upside nonetheless and makes for a rock-solid mid-range guard play.
PG Scotty Pippen Jr., MEM | DK: $3.5k, FD: $4.4k | vs. SAC
The Grizzlies’ roster continues to drop like flies and they may very well be down to a seven or eight-man rotation tonight. Assuming Jacob Gilyard (DK: $3.6k, FD: $4.1k) gets the start, he’ll likely be the “safer” play. But Pippen is deserving of a long look as well since he may be the only guard available off of the Grizzlies’ bench in a game that could quickly turn into a blowout. In limited action across three games, Pippen has scored a respectable 1.05 FPPM. If he manages to play mid-20s minutes tonight, he’s likely exceeding value quite easily. Pippen has been great in G League action this season, averaging 18.2 PPG, 6.6 RPG, 6.2 APG, 3.8 STL+BLK/gm, and he shot 85% from the free throw line. He has yet to snag any steals or blocks in his short time in the NBA, but it’s nice to know that he is a player who can contribute in every statistical category.
Other Guards to Consider
PG Luka Doncic, DAL | DK: $11.8k, FD: $12.5k | vs. ORL
PG/SG Anthony Edwards, MIN | DK: $8.5k, FD: $9.4k | @ OKC (DK Preferred)
PG Jamal Murray, DEN | DK: $8.3k, FD: N/A | vs. MIL (DK Main Slate Only)
PG Fred VanVleet, HOU | DK: $7.5k, FD: $8.4k | vs. LAL
PG D’Angelo Russell, LAL | DK: $7k, FD: $7.8k | @ HOU
PG/SG Collin Sexton, UTA | DK: $6.9k, FD: $7.6k | @ BKN
PG/SG Devin Vassell, SAS | DK: $6.7k, FD: $7.6k | vs. WAS
PG Tyus Jones, WAS | DK: $6.3k, FD: $7.1k | @ SAS
SG/SF Cam Thomas, BKN | DK: $6k, FD: $6.6k | vs. UTA (Preferred if starting)
PG Spencer Dinwiddie, BKN | DK: $5.3k, FD: $6.1k | vs. UTA
SG/SF Nickeil Alexander-Walker, MIN | DK: $4.5k, FD: $5.3k | @ OKC (Only if M. Conley is out)
SG/SF Quentin Grimes, NYK | DK: $3.7k, FD: $4.4k | @ CHA
PG Jacob Gilyard, MEM | DK: $3.6k, FD: $4.1k | vs. SAC (Assuming he starts)
Small Forwards/Power Forwards to Consider 🏀
PF/C Victor Wembanyama, SAS | DK: $8.9k, FD: $10.3k | vs. WAS
Back to this Spurs/Wizards match-up, we go. Wemby remains a worthwhile play on FanDuel where he’s more appropriately priced, but for some reason, DraftKings has kept him under $9k even though he’s averaging 51.7 DKFP over his last five games. Wembanyama still isn’t playing huge minutes, but he has logged at least 28 minutes in five consecutive games, which is clearly enough time for a player of his caliber to put up big numbers. Wemby posted a 24/8/4 stat line with SIX blocks against the Wizards nine days ago and he should post similar, or better, numbers against them tonight. Wemby is power forward and center eligible on both sites, but he’s been exclusively playing center for quite some time now. The Wizards have ranked 29th versus starting centers L20Games and we’ll also like the fact that the Spurs are at home tonight, where Wembanyama has averaged +12% more FPPG.
SF/PF Josh Hart, NYK | DK: $5.4k, FD: $5.6k | @ CHA
Hart is currently the favorite to enter the Knicks’ starting rotation while Julius Randle is sidelined. He may not be the flashiest player and, from a fantasy perspective, he’s not exactly consistent. But if he manages to play 32+ minutes as a starter, then he should end up being a reasonable source of value against an awful Hornets defense (CHA: 30th in DEFRTG). The Hornets have also ranked 28th versus starting SFs L20Games and Hart has averaged 29.5 DKFP/30.7 FDFP in his last two games against Charlotte this season (played both games off of the bench).
SF Cam Whitmore, HOU | DK: $4.4k, FD: $5.2k | vs. LAL
Up to this point, I feel as if I’ve spotlighted some fairly obvious plays on this slate so we’ll roll with a bit of a gamble here in Cam Whitmore. He has taken advantage of some added minutes while Tari Eason (leg/out) has been sidelined and while Jabari Smith Jr. has missed the last four games. Smith will return to the lineup today, which will put Whitmore’s minutes in jeopardy. However, Whitmore has had some very impressive performances off of the Rockets’ bench in recent weeks, so it would seem unlikely that he’ll get completely knocked out of the rotation. Whitmore has averaged 1.20 FPPM L20Games and 1.32 FPPM L5Games, so he can stuff the stat sheet in a hurry. If he earns at least 20 minutes tonight, he’ll have a chance to return solid value -- just three days ago against the Hornets, Whitmore played only 20 minutes but he was still able to put up a 24-point, 11-rebound double-double and score 44.25 DKFP/40.2 FDFP. That is a tough sort of performance to replicate, but Whitmore does have that sort of GPP-winning potential and should check in at < 10% ownership tonight.
Other Forwards to Consider
PF/C Anthony Davis, LAL | DK: $10k, FD: $11.2k | @ HOU (DK Preferred - Currently questionable)
SF/PF LeBron James, LAL | DK: $9.4k, FD: $10.4k | @ HOU (DK Preferred - Currently questionable)
SF/PF Lauri Markkanen, UTA | DK: $8.2k, FD: $9k | @ BKN
SF/PF Kawhi Leonard, LAC | DK: $8.2k, FD: $9.3k | @ CLE
PF/C Kyle Kuzma, WAS | DK: $7.9k, FD: $8k | @ SAS
SF/SG Mikal Bridges, BKN | DK: $7.2k, FD: $7.9k | vs. UTA
SF Vince Williams Jr., MEM | DK: $6.4k, FD: $7k | vs. SAC (Currently questionable)
PF Jeremy Sochan, SAS | DK: $5.7k, FD: $6.2k | vs. WAS
SF Harrison Barnes, SAC | DK: $4.8k, FD: $5.9k | @ MEM
PF/C David Roddy, MEM | DK: $4.4k, FD: $4.8k | vs. SAC (Preferred if starting)
SF/PF Gregory “GG” Jackson, MEM | DK: $4.2k, FD: $5k | vs. SAC
PF/C Peyton Watson, DEN | DK: $3.4k, FD: N/A | vs. MIL (DK Main Slate Only)
Centers to Consider 🏀
C Rudy Gobert, MIN | DK: $7.3k, FD: $8.5k | @ OKC
Gobert has had four pedestrian performances in his last five games so he’s a good bet to fly under the radar tonight, potentially in the 5% owned range. Generally, we can expect a double-double out of Gobert most nights and if he happens to go nuts with the blocked shots, then he brings GPP-winning 50+ FP upside to the table. The Thunder attempt the 8th most FG attempts in the paint so Gobert’s shot-blocking could certainly come into play this evening. OKC is also on the second leg of a back-to-back following an embarrassing 120-104 loss to the Pistons last night. It’s pure speculation, but morale and energy may be pretty low for the Thunder this evening. There are safer routes to take at the center position today, but Gobert could be a low-owned GPP winner.
C Daniel Gafford, WAS | DK: $6k, FD: $7k | @ SAS
As long as he stays out of foul trouble against Wemby and logs around 30 minutes, Daniel Gafford will have some nice upside tonight. As mentioned multiple times in this newsletter, defense should be an afterthought in this match-up between two awful teams. He will have to contend with the shot-blocking prowess of Wemby, but the Spurs have allowed the 2nd most FPPM to centers L10Games (1.52 FPPM). Gafford was out with injury when these teams met on Jan. 20th but backup center Marvin Bagley III posted 42.0 DKFP/39.4 FDFP in a spot start. If we can get similar results out of Gafford tonight, we’ll certainly take it.
Other Centers to Consider
C Nikola Jokic, DEN | DK: $11.3k, FD: N/A | vs. MIL (DK Main Slate Only)
C Domantas Sabonis, SAC | DK: $10.2k, FD: $10.2k | @ MEM
C Bam Adebayo, MIA | DK: $8.1k, FD: $9.1k | vs. PHX (DK Preferred)
C Nic Claxton, BKN | DK: $6.9k, FD: $7.8k | vs. UTA
C Isaiah Hartenstein, NYK | DK: $6.9k, FD: $7.4k | @ CHA
C Nick Richards, CHA | DK: $5.6k, FD: $6.7k | vs. NYK
C Marvin Bagley III, WAS | DK: $5k, FD: $5.9k | @ SAS
C Larry Nance Jr., NOP | DK: $3.9k, FD: $5.2k | @ BOS (DK Preferred)
C Neemias Queta, BOS | DK: $3.6k, FD: $4.4k | vs. NOP (Only if Porzingis & Horford are both out)
