Top DraftKings & FanDuel DFS Plays
Note: NBA position designations are never going to perfectly align between the major DFS sites. For the purposes of these newsletters, positional designations will default to DraftKings.
Point Guards/Shooting Guards to Consider 🏀
PG Luka Doncic, DAL | DK: $12.1k, FD: $12.8k | vs. SAS
Even with plenty of “questionable” tags on today’s slate, there is already ample value to choose from, so it won’t be difficult to fit in a superstar like Luka Doncic. The Mavs lead the entire slate with a 126.8 implied team total as they welcome the San Antonio Spurs and their 24th-ranked defense into town. Luka has erupted for 72.25 DKFP/64.2 FDFP and 79.0 DKFP/72.3 FDFP in two games against the Spurs this season (note: Kyrie Irving was out for that second match-up). Doncic is also averaging 66.9 DKFP at home, compared to 63.8 DKFP on the road -- and he’s nearly at a triple-double average at home: 34.5 PPG, 10.4 APG, 9.0 RPG. There are infinite ways to attack a slate of this size but you can rarely go wrong by rolling with Luka, especially when he draws a soft match-up at home.
SG/SF Buddy Hield, PHI | DK: $6.3k, FD: $7.1k | vs. MIA
Hield has taken on an expanded role in his three games with his new Philadelphia team and, with the 76ers still down multiple key players, that role should continue into tonight’s home match-up with the Heat. Hield has started each of the last three games and has averaged 37.3 Mins/gm to go along with 22.3 PPG, 6.7 APG, 4.3 RPG, and 1.7 STL/gm. Normally he’s known as a pure scorer but he’s operating as a primary facilitator as well in this current version of the 76ers offense. Anyone who has played NBA DFS for a reasonable amount of time knows that Buddy Hield is a volatile player, but we also haven’t seen him this involved in a team’s overall offense in quite some time. Philly will be in a good spot to pick up a third win in a row against a shorthanded Heat team that heads in on the second leg of a road back-to-back.
SG/SF Duncan Robinson, MIA | DK: $4.4k, FD: $5k | @ PHI
We’ll jump over to the other side of this match-up and give Duncan Robinson a spotlight following a big game last night where he provided 43.25 DKFP/43.1 FDFP in just 26 minutes (1.66 FPPM). I’m not sure if we can bank on a similar performance tonight, but he should be in line for another start while the Heat are without Jimmy Butler, Terry Rozier, and Josh Richardson once again. Ever since Joel Embiid went down, the 76ers have been a great team to target with opposing players. In their last seven games without Embiid, they have posted a 123.9 DEFRTG, which is dead last in the league during that span. To compare, the Charlotte Hornets have ranked last in defensive rating on the season, and they’re sporting a 120.7 DEFRTG. So, while we cannot expect Robinson to drain 75% of his three-pointers, as he did last night, at his current prices, he doesn’t need to. And, even before last night’s performance, we’ve seen Robinson go off for 40+ FP multiple times throughout the season when the Heat have been missing some key players.
Other Guards to Consider
PG/SG Devin Booker, PHX | DK: $9.8k, FD: $9.8k | vs. DET
PG Tyrese Haliburton, IND | DK: $8.9k, FD: $9.2k | @ TOR (Currently questionable)
PG/SG Kyrie Irving, DAL | DK: $8.9k, FD: $9.4k | vs. SAS
PG/SG James Harden, LAC | DK: N/A, FD: $8.8k | @ GSW (FD Main Slate Only)
PG D’Angelo Russell, LAL | DK: $7.2k, FD: $7.9k | @ UTA
PG/SG Tyler Herro, MIA | DK: $7.2k, FD: $7.7k | @ PHI
PG/SG Austin Reaves, LAL | DK: $6.9k, FD: $7.5k | @ UTA
PG/SG Devin Vassell, SAS | DK: $6.6k, FD: $7.4k | @ DAL
SG Collin Sexton, UTA | DK: $6.4k, FD: $6.9k | vs. LAL
SG/SF Vince Williams Jr., MEM | DK: $6.2k, FD: $6.8k | vs. HOU
PG/SG Malik Monk, SAC | DK: $5.6k, FD: $6.8k | @ DEN (DK Preferred)
PG/SG Ayo Dosunmu, CHI | DK: $5.2k, FD: $6.2k | @ CLE (Boost if A. Caruso is out)
PG Tre Mann, CHA | DK: $5k, FD: $6k | vs. ATL
PG Keyonte George, UTA | DK: $4.2k, FD: $5.3k | vs. LAL (Preferred if starting again)
SG/SF Lonnie Walker IV, BKN | DK: $4k, FD: $5.1k | @ BOS (DK Preferred)
PG Cole Anthony, ORL | DK: $3.7k, FD: $5.1k | vs. NYK
PG Aaron Holiday, HOU | DK: $3.6k, FD: $4.7k | @ MEM
Small Forwards/Power Forwards to Consider 🏀
SF/PF Jayson Tatum, BOS | DK: $9.6k, FD: $10.3k | vs. BKN
The Celtics and Nets are on the second leg of a home-and-home back-to-back. What was trending toward a Celtics blowout win last night, largely thanks to a monster 31-point first half from Tatum, ended up being a fairly close 118-110 finish, so most starters played big minutes last night. Tatum cooled off a bit in the second half but still came away with an eye-popping 75.0 DKFP/72.3 FDFP. The Celtics will look to get Kristaps Porzingis (who sat out last night) back into the mix, but they’ll be without Al Horford and possibly Jaylen Brown (shoulder/questionable), who logged 37 minutes last night. When both Horford and Brown have been off the floor this season, Tatum has seen a +6.1 percentage point increase in his usage rate. Over his last five games, Tatum is up to 1.66 FPPM and he has scored at least 58.0 DKFP/55.1 FDFP in four of those last five starts. So, we’ll see if Tatum can run wild on the Nets for a second consecutive day and I doubt he’ll be super chalky even after the huge game last night. I will say, if Jaylen Brown ends up being active, I’d have a little less interest in going back to the Tatum well tonight, but he’d still make for a solid all-around play.
SF/SG Brandon Ingram, NOP | DK: $8.1k, FD: $8.3k | vs. WAS
Brandon Ingram is far from my favorite player to roster in NBA DFS, but this seems like as good of a time as any to slide him into some lineups tonight. Prior to a lackluster performance against the Grizzlies on Monday, Ingram had procured at least 37.0 DKFP/36.3 FDFP in his previous seven games, so the consistency has mostly been there; and he went off for 68.0 DKFP/64.7 FDFP nine days ago against the Raptors, so we’ve seen a recent ceiling game out of him as well. The real buoy to Ingram’s upside today is centered around the match-up with the Wizards, who continue to lead the NBA in pace while ranking 27th in DEFRTG. The last time these teams met, Ingram supplied 40 actual points and 49.0 DKFP/48.9 FDFP across just 30 minutes. The Pelicans (-13) are heavy favorites today and Ingram has averaged 55.75 DKFP/52.1 FDFP in three “big favorite” games this season. Finally, Ingram averages +10.2% more FPPG at home and he’ll likely handle additional usage if Zion Williamson (foot/questionable) is unable to play tonight.
PF/C Nikola Jovic, MIA | DK: $3.1k, FD: $3.9k | @ PHI
The Heat will be a popular team to target for value today and Nikola Jovic is a borderline can’t-miss value option. After being completely phased out of the rotation, Jovic earned the spot start in last night’s game and ended the night with a 24/7/3 stat line and 41.75 DKFP/39.9 FDFP across 30 minutes. To the same point made about Duncan Robinson above, we cannot head into tonight’s game expecting a similar performance. But, at the same time, Jovic has averaged 0.95 FPPM on the season, so he’s capable of solid production when he gets the minutes. And, to point it out once again, the 76ers have ranked dead last in DEFRTG over their last seven games without Joel Embiid available. As long as he’s starting again, Jovic will make for an outstanding value play, and he’s just $100 above the minimum on DraftKings.
Other Forwards to Consider
PF Kevin Durant, PHX | DK: $9.9k, FD: $10k | vs. DET
PF/C Victor Wembanyama, SAS | DK: $9.2k, FD: $10.4k | @ DAL (DK Preferred)
SF/PF Miles Bridges, CHA | DK: $8.8k, FD: $9.1k | vs. ATL
SF/SG Paul George, LAC | DK: N/A, FD: $8.2k | @ GSW (FD Main Slate Only)
SF/PF Pascal Siakam, IND | DK: $7.9k, FD: $7.9k | @ TOR
PF Zion Williamson, NOP | DK: $7.6k, FD: $8.2k | vs. WAS (Currently questionable)
PF Jalen Johnson, ATL | DK: $7.3k, FD: $8.4k | @ CHA (DK Preferred)
SF Franz Wagner, ORL | DK: $7.2k, FD: $8.1k | vs. NYK
PF/C John Collins, UTA | DK: $6.3k, FD: $6.6k | vs. LAL
SF/PF Saddiq Bey, ATL | DK: $6k, FD: $6.3k | @ CHA
SF/SG Dillon Brooks, HOU | DK: $4.9k, FD: $5.6k | @ MEM
SF/PF Rui Hachimura, LAL | DK: $4.7k, FD: $5.4k | @ UTA
SF/PF Herbert Jones, NOP | DK: $4.7k, FD: $5.9k | vs. WAS
PF/C Grant Williams, CHA | DK: $4.3k, FD: $5.1k | vs. ATL
SF/PF Royce O’Neale, PHX | DK: $3.8k, FD: $4.1k | vs. DET (Could potentially start tonight)
PF/C Jonathan Isaac, ORL | DK: $3.5k, FD: $4.7k | vs. NYK (DK Preferred)
Centers to Consider 🏀
C Nikola Jokic, DEN | DK: $11.3k, FD: $12k | vs. SAC
Again, with so much value on the board, it won’t be a problem getting up to the best player at the position. Jokic’s 1.81 FPPM on the season is impressive enough, but when Jamal Murray (tibia/doubtful) has been off the floor, the Joker’s per minute prowess rises to an enormous 1.93 FPPM and his usage rate has jumped by +3.3 percentage points. When the Nuggets and Kings played each on Dec. 2nd, Jamal Murray was out for that contest and Jokic went on to pour in a 36/13/14 triple-double, resulting in 84.25 DKFP/82.1 FDFP. We know the floor is going to be among the highest on the slate, but we’re also getting some 80+ FP potential out of Jokic tonight as well.
C Walker Kessler, UTA | DK: $5k, FD: $6.5k | vs. LAL
The exodus of PF/C Kelly Olynyk to Toronto has led to more playing time for Walker Kessler, who has also started the previous two games. He’ll be contending with Anthony Davis in the paint tonight but as long as he isn’t plagued by early foul trouble, and continues to start, he looks like a solid value center tonight, especially at a flat $5,000 on DraftKings. Kessler is one of the top shot blockers in the NBA, averaging 2.8 BLK/gm in just 23.3 Min/gm this season. Now that he’s starting and handling some extra minutes, he’s going to continue to rack up the blocks. As a starter this season, he’s averaging 1.19 FPPM and a whopping 5.3 STL+BLK/gm to go with 34.4 DKFP/38.1 FDFP per game.
Other Centers to Consider
C Anthony Davis, LAL | DK: $10.1k, FD: $11.2k | @ UTA
C Bam Adebayo, MIA | DK: $8.5k, FD: $9k | @ PHI
C Nikola Vucevic, CHI | DK: $7.6k, FD: $8.6k | @ CLE (DK Preferred)
C Myles Turner, IND | DK: $6.4k, FD: $7.2k | @ TOR (Currently questionable)
C Daniel Gafford, DAL | DK: $6.1k, FD: $7.1k | vs. SAS (If he’s starting/Preferred if D. Lively II is out)
C Marvin Bagley III, WAS | DK: $5.3k, FD: $6.2k | @ NOP
C Isaiah Jackson, IND | DK: $3.7k, FD: $5.2k | @ TOR (Only if M. Turner is out + Jackson starts)
C Bruno Fernando, ATL | DK: $3.6k, FD: $4k | @ CHA (Only if he’s starting)
