DFS Main Slate Rundown 📰

Welcome back! I hope everyone enjoyed the one-week hiatus from the daily NBA grind but we’re back in full force with a 10-game main slate! There are 12 NBA games in total on today’s schedule, however, both DraftKings and FanDuel have elected to exclude the two late games in the 10 o’clock ET window. That will cut down on a bit of the clutter but this will still be a fairly chaotic and busy slate. But, with every team getting a mid-season break, that also gave time for plenty of players who were dealing with some nagging injuries to get back to, or close to, 100%. I’m writing today’s newsletter earlier than usual, so the injury report could change between now and later in the day but, for the most part, players [with more long-term injuries] have already been ruled out for tonight’s action while several other guys carry the “probable” tag. So, finding value may be trickier than usual, particularly for a slate of this size, but we’ll see if we can find the correct pieces nonetheless! Best of luck and here’s to a fun and, ideally, profitable second half of the season!

🆕LineStar NBA Feature Update🆕

As most LineStar Premium subscribers are aware, your subscription includes access to both the mobile app and the desktop LineStar site. Desktop users may notice a new “Team DEF” tool/tab feature that has been added for NBA over the All-Star Break! This tool gives a detailed visual breakdown of team defense and DvP (defense versus position) information with expanded sorting options. This is just another useful tool to help you take a more informed NBA DFS approach! And, if you’re someone who exclusively uses the app, be on the lookout for the “Team DEF” tool coming to LineStar mobile in the near future!

Top DraftKings & FanDuel DFS Plays

Note: NBA position designations are never going to perfectly align between the major DFS sites. For the purposes of these newsletters, positional designations will default to DraftKings.

Point Guards/Shooting Guards to Consider 🏀

PG Tyrese Haliburton, IND | DK: $9.4k, FD: $9.9k | vs. DET

Haliburton has been dealing with some lingering injury issues and minute restrictions for the better part of the 2024 calendar year. However, he logged 34 minutes in back-to-back games just before the All-Star Break, and he was on the floor for 27 minutes for the actual All-Star Game (which was held in Indianapolis), so it would seem that he’ll begin the second half of the season without any minute restrictions or health concerns. Haliburton has spent much of this season priced well into the $10k range so we could be getting him at a nice bargain at these sub-$10k price tags on both sites. Spanning his last 20 starts, in which he logged limited minutes on several occasions, Haliburton has averaged 1.54 FPPM, 12.0 APG, and a 25% USG%. Looking at the new “Team DEF” tool, we’ll see that the Pistons have ranked 22nd versus PGs L20Games. Detroit is also 28th in DEFRTG on the season and both teams in this match-up operate at a fast pace -- IND: 2nd in pace, DET: 7th in pace. So, to no major surprise, this game will feature a slate-high 246.5 over/under with the Pacers leading the slate, by a wide margin, with a 129.3 implied team total.

PG Tre Mann, CHA | DK: $5.5k, FD: $6.6k | @ UTA

The Hornets will continue into the second half of the season without the services of LaMelo Ball (ankle/out), who does seem close to a return… but not just yet. Safe to say, the 13-41 Hornets will not be making the playoffs so there is no need to rush Ball back into action to begin with, but they’re also getting some great play out of interim starting point guard Tre Mann. In three starts with the Hornets, Mann is averaging a team-leading 1.19 FPPM and he has flirted with triple-doubles in his last two starts. Mann is probably (read: almost certainly) playing a bit above his head right now, and he hasn’t faced the most difficult defensive match-ups in those three starts. However, the Jazz are far from defensive stalwarts themselves, ranking 25th in DEFRTG on the season. The Jazz have also allowed 41.9 DKFP/41.0 FDFP per game to PG starters L20Games, so it’s certainly a spot where Mann can continue to pay off his modest DFS salaries.

PG Keyonte George, UTA | DK: $4.7k, FD: $5.8k | vs. CHA

Since there isn’t much immediate injury-related value to be had on this slate (pending any further/surprise news), we’re going to see multiple guards from this Jazz/Hornets game end up as popular plays tonight. Utah deployed a new-look starting lineup ahead of the ASB which had Keyonte George starting over the previous three games. The 20-year-old rookie, Keyonte George, has started 19 total games this season, so it’s not a brand new role for him, and he exploded for his best game of the season just ahead of the break, putting up 33 points, six assists, three steals, and two rebounds -- good for 54 DKFP/51 FDFP. We’re not going to expect that same sort of output again tonight, but George has averaged around an FPPM this season so if he’s going to continue playing 30+ minutes with the starters, he is a strong candidate to return value tonight. And, it doesn’t hurt George’s outlook that the Hornets rank dead last in DEFRTG and have allowed 1.32 FPPM to PGs L10Games.

Other Guards to Consider

PG Luka Doncic, DAL | DK: $12.1k, FD: $12.6k | vs. PHX

PG Jalen Brunson, NYK | DK: $9.3k, FD: $9.6k | @ PHI

PG/SG Kyrie Irving, DAL | DK: $9k, FD: $9.7k | vs. PHX

PG Jamal Murray, DEN | DK: $8k, FD: $8.4k | vs. WAS

PG Cade Cunningham, DET | DK: $7.6k, FD: $8.3k | @ IND

SG Collin Sexton, UTA | DK: $6.2k, FD: $6.7k | vs. CHA

PG Darius Garland, CLE | DK: $5.9k, FD: $6.5k | vs. ORL (Boost if D. Mitchell is out)

PG/SG Caris LeVert, CLE | DK: $4.8k, FD: $5.7k | vs. ORL (Preferred if D. Mitchell is out)

PG/SG Andrew Nembhard, IND | DK: $4.4k, FD: $5.8k | vs. DET (DK Preferred)

PG Shake Milton, DET | DK: $3.5k, FD: $4k | @ IND

SG/SF Evan Fournier, DET | DK: $3.4k, FD: $4.2k | @ IND

Small Forwards/Power Forwards to Consider 🏀

PF Zion Williamson, NOP | DK: $7.8k, FD: $8.2k | vs. HOU

A well-rested Zion is an interesting option tonight. He went into the ASB on the heels of a lofty 36-point performance and he has secured at least 46 DKFP/47 FDFP in four of his last six games. Utilizing the new LineStar “Team DEF” tool again, we’ll see that power forwards have found plenty of recent success against the Rockets, who rank 24th versus the position over their L10Games. Also, if Brandon Ingram (illness/questionable) is unable to suit up tonight, Zion should see a solid usage boost. In 538 minutes with Ingram off the floor this season, Williamson has seen a +3.7 percentage point increase in his usage rate.

PF/C Precious Achiuwa, NYK | DK: $7.1k, FD: $7.6k | @ PHI

With the continued key injuries to the Knicks’ frontcourt, namely Julius Randle and OG Anunoby, Precious Achiuwa should maintain an absurdly high minutes floor. Over his last five games, none of which went into overtime, Achiuwa has averaged a whopping 41.4 minutes/gm. He’s averaging a decent, but non-spectacular, 0.93 FPPM in that stretch, but we also saw him push for a 50 FP performance just before the ASB against the Magic. His DFS salaries are on the rise, and rightfully so, but the 76ers also represent an appealing match-up. Philadelphia’s defensive prowess has taken a nosedive ever since Joel Embiid suffered his most recent injury, and the 76ers rank dead last in DEFRTG over their last eight games (all without Embiid). Given his elevated DFS salaries, I don’t imagine Achiuwa will be a popular target this evening, especially if many people are still mistakenly viewing the 76ers as a good/great defensive team. If Achiuwa goes on to log 40+ minutes again tonight, he can certainly continue to build upon his recent success.

PF Taylor Hendricks, UTA | DK: $3.1k, FD: $3.9k | vs. CHA

If you’re truly in need of some cheap value, Taylor Hendricks should continue to handle increased minutes off of the Jazz bench, as he has over the last few games since Utah shipped Kelly Olynyk off to Toronto. Hendricks, Utah’s No. 9 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, has appeared in just 17 games in his rookie season while averaging 14.4 minutes/gm but he’s pushing closer to 20 minutes/gm lately and has averaged 0.78 FPPM on the season. And, while it’s a slippery slope banking on blowouts, the Jazz are hefty 10.5-point home favorites tonight against the hapless Hornets, so Hendricks could pick up a few additional minutes late in the game if this one gets out of hand.

Other Forwards to Consider

PF Kevin Durant, PHX | DK: $10k, FD: $9.8k | @ DAL (Boost if B. Beal is out)

SF/PF Jayson Tatum, BOS | DK: $9.9k, FD: $10.3k | @ CHI

SF/PF Pascal Siakam, IND | DK: $8.2k, FD: $8.1k | vs. DET

SF/PF Lauri Markkanen, UTA | DK: $8.1k, FD: $8k | vs. CHA

SF/PF DeMar DeRozan, CHI | DK: $7.6k, FD: $8.1k | vs. BOS

PF Jalen Williams, OKC | DK: $7k, FD: $7.9k | vs. OKC

PF/C Evan Mobley, CLE | DK: $6.7k, FD: $7.6k | vs. ORL (DK Preferred - Boost if D. Mitchell is out)

PF Aaron Gordon, DEN | DK: $6.3k, FD: $6.4k | vs. WAS

PF/C John Collins, UTA | DK: $6.2k, FD: $6.2k | vs. CHA

SF/PF Ausar Thompson, DET | DK: $5k, FD: $6.3k | @ IND (DK Preferred)

PF/C Grant Williams, CHA | DK: $4.5k, FD: $5.4k | @ UTA

SF/SG Bennedict Mathurin, IND | DK: $4.5k, FD: $5k | vs. DET

SF/PF Corey Kispert, WAS | DK: $4.4k, FD: $5.1k | @ DEN

SF/PF Royce O’Neale, PHX | DK: $4.1k, FD: $4.8k | @ DAL

PF/C Moritz Wagner, ORL | DK: $3.3k, FD: $4.5k | @ CLE (Preferred if P. Banchero is out)

Centers to Consider 🏀

C Myles Turner, IND | DK: $6.5k, FD: $7.1k | vs. DET

If you have the salary, you could hardly go wrong with the premium Nikola Jokic spend-up, but a center like Myles Turner is going to be an enticing option out of the mid-range. Turner has flourished in two previous match-ups with the Pistons this season, averaging 45.75 DKFP/49.1 FDFP. Detroit has allowed a lofty 1.38 FPPM to centers L5Games and Turner’s ceiling really gets unlocked when he’s able to log 30+ minutes, which is never a guarantee with him. I will say, I’d like Turner’s chances of logging 30+ minutes tonight if Jalen Smith (back/questionable) is ruled out tonight. But, for the prices, Turner is a worthy DFS play even if Smith is active.

C Marvin Bagley III, WAS | DK: $5.3k, FD: $6.6k | @ DEN

I’m always hesitant to roster centers when they’re on the visiting side in Denver because the high altitude can take its toll on the big guys who aren’t adjusted to it… and, in my opinion, it’s a large reason why Jokic seems to be extra dominant at home. But I do believe we can take some shots on Bagley tonight, specifically on DraftKings where he’s too cheap for the upside at $5,300. With Daniel Gafford shipped to Dallas, Bagley has taken over as the starting five for Washington. He has posted between 35.0 DKFP and 46.75 DKFP in four of his last five starts with the Wizards -- in the lone start where he didn’t put up a DKFP result in that range, he played just 15 minutes in his first game action since returning from a back injury. Predictably, the Wizards (+15) are the largest underdogs on the slate and foul trouble is a concern against Jokic, but the Nuggets have allowed 1.42 FPPM to centers L5Games, so it’s perhaps not the worst match-up as long as Washington can stay fairly competitive on the scoreboard.

Other Centers to Consider

C Nikola Jokic, DEN | DK: $11.6k, FD: $12.1k | vs. WAS

C Nikola Vucevic, CHI | DK: $7.5k, FD: $8.4k | vs. BOS

C Jarrett Allen, CLE | DK: $7.2k, FD: $7.7k | vs. ORL

C Jaren Duren, DET | DK: $7k, FD: $7.7k | @ IND

C Ivica Zubac, LAC | DK: $5.4k, FD: $6.5k | @ OKC (DK Preferred)

C Walker Kessler, UTA | DK: $5.1k, FD: $7k | vs. CHA (DK Preferred)

C Wendell Carter Jr., ORL | DK: $4.9k, FD: $5.5k | @ CLE (Slight boost if P. Banchero is out)
