DFS Main Slate Rundown 📰

Depending on your DFS site of choice, you’ll be looking at either a six or seven-game main slate for this Tuesday evening. FanDuel is including the 10 o’clock ET nightcap game between the Bucks and Suns, while DraftKings has elected to exclude it from their main slate docket. For the purposes of this newsletter, I’ll only be spotlighting players from the six mutually shared games. A multitude of “questionable” injury tags litter this slate so there will be an abundance of player availability news that we’ll have to track today. Do note that I am writing today’s NBA newsletter a bit earlier than usual, so I will do my best to keep the injury list below updated if any news drops as I’m writing this. Alrighty, let’s get things going and dive into this slate! Best of luck!

Main Slate Match-Ups w/ Game Totals & Point Spreads

Top DraftKings & FanDuel DFS Plays

Note: NBA position designations are never going to perfectly align between the major DFS sites. For the purposes of these newsletters, positional designations will default to DraftKings.

Point Guards/Shooting Guards to Consider 🏀

PG Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, OKC | DK: $10.5k, FD: $11.7k | @ UTA

It looks like we’ll have a fair amount of value on this slate so having enough salary to spend up for SGA should be quite doable. SGA is up to 1.61 FPPM over his last five games and, in that span, he’s seen an uptick in his assist rate (8.0 APG) and steals/blocks (3.8 STL+BLK/gm). SGA continues to lead the NBA in drives to the basket per game and the Jazz are fairly generous to opposing scorers around the rim, allowing the 11th most points in the paint per game. The last time these teams met, SGA got to the free throw line 17 times. With several Thunder role players either out or questionable to play tonight, expect another do-it-all performance out of Gilgeous-Alexander in this enticing game environment which has a lofty 241 over/under and close spread (OKC: -3.5).

PG/SG Cam Thomas, BKN | DK: $7.3k, FD: $7.4k | vs. DAL

I wouldn’t consider Cam Thomas’ performance from last night a “dud” as he was able to secure 32.25 DKFP/33.5 FDFP. However, if he was in your lineups, it was frustrating to see him shoot 4-of-21 from the field before eventually fouling out late in the game, and last night ended a five-game streak where Thomas put up at least 37.0 DKFP/37.4 FDFP. But that’s part of the rub when it comes to players who rely heavily on pure scoring -- a bad shooting night will stifle their upside in a hurry. All this to say, I wouldn’t hesitate going right back to him tonight. The Nets are going to be thin on perimeter scorers with Cameron Johnson, Lonnie Walker IV, and Dorian Finney-Smith already ruled out. With those three players off the floor this season, Thomas has seen an increase of +6.5 percentage points to his usage rate, which leads all Nets’ starters. Both of these teams played last night which makes the back-to-back factor less worrisome, and this game features a strong 236.5 over/under and narrow spread (BKN: +3). It’s also an appealing match-up for Cam Thomas as Dallas has ranked 29th versus starting shooting guards L20Games. When these teams last met, Thomas poured in 30 real points on 12-of-19 shooting and came away with 46.25 DKFP/47.4 FDFP across 33 minutes played. He should be a solid option out of the mid-range once again.

PG/SG Amen Thompson, HOU | DK: $4.1k, FD: $5.6k | @ IND

As of this writing, this is probably the most obvious play on the slate, particularly on DraftKings. But Amen Thompson is firmly in play at his $5,600 FanDuel price tag as well. Fred VanVleet will be out for just the third game this season. Thompson was also dealing with an injury when FVV sat out his first game of the year on Nov. 29th, but when VanVleet was out on Jan. 21st against Boston, Thompson garnered a spot start and did not disappoint. In that game, Thompson logged 32 minutes and posted a 15/14/5 double-double stat line -- good for 42.5 DKFP/40.3 FDFP. Thompson has been posting good-to-great numbers off of the Rockets’ bench in recent weeks and he’s averaging well over an FPPM. The Rockets will be taking on a Pacers team that ranks 2nd in the NBA in pace, and Thompson, chalky as he may be, is simply some can’t-miss value.

Other Guards to Consider

PG Luka Doncic, DAL | DK: $12k, FD: $12.6k | @ BKN (Currently questionable)

PG/SG Kyrie Irving, DAL | DK: $8.5k, FD: $9.3k | @ BKN (Major boost if Doncic is out)

SG/SF Donte DiVincenzo, NYK | DK: $7.4k, FD: $7.6k | vs. MEM

PG/SG Jalen Green, HOU | DK: $7.1k, FD: $7.2k | @ IND

PG/SG Collin Sexton, UTA | DK: $6.7k, FD: $7.3k | vs. OKC

PG/SG Ayo Dosunmu, CHI | DK: $5.6k, FD: $6.5k | vs. MIN (DK Preferred)

PG Jacob Gilyard, MEM | DK: $5.2k, FD: $5.3k | @ NYK (Only if he’s starting again)

PG Mike Conley, MIN | DK: $5.1k, FD: $5.7k | @ CHI (DK Preferred)

PG/SG Dennis Smith Jr., BKN | DK: $4.2k, FD: $5.1k | vs. DAL

PG Keyonte George, UTA | DK: $3.9k, FD: $5.1k | vs. OKC (DK Preferred)

PG/SG Miles McBride, NYK | DK: $3.7k, FD: $4.5k | vs. MEM

PG Aaron Holiday, HOU | DK: $3.3k, FD: $4k | @ IND

Small Forwards/Power Forwards to Consider 🏀

SF/PF DeMar DeRozan, CHI | DK: $7.6k, FD: $8.2k | vs. MIN

The forward positions are definitely lacking star power on this slate unless you’re on FanDuel where you have the option to spend up on the likes of Giannis Antetokounmpo or Kevin Durant. But DeMar DeRozan does set up as a quality option as the Bulls continue to play out the rest of their season without Zach LaVine (underwent foot surgery, out for season). Over the last five games, DeRozan is averaging a commendable 43.0 DKFP/43.9 FDFP per game. On the surface, this match-up isn’t going to be overly appealing from a DFS perspective. The Bulls are the slowest-paced team in the NBA while the T-Wolves boast the league’s best defense. However, Chicago has not played since Saturday and DeRozan has averaged +15% more FPPG when well-rested. His best games also tend to come at home (+7.2% more FPPG at home). In general, DeRozan provides a strong floor and there’s always a chance he pops off for 50+ FP as the top option on the Bulls offense.

PF/C Precious Achiuwa, NYK | DK: $5.8k, FD: $6.3k | vs. MEM

Achiuwa has started in each of the last four games in which Julius Randle (shoulder/out) has been unavailable. In that time, he’s had two underwhelming performances, one solid performance, and one excellent performance (44.5 DKFP/47.2 FDFP vs. IND). However, the most important note is that Achiuwa has averaged a whopping 39.6 Min/gm in these last four games -- none of which went into overtime. Time on the court is everything in the NBA and it’s nearly impossible to have a monster performance without those big minutes. The Knicks are 13-point favorites in this game against the depleted Grizzlies, and Memphis is really lacking in quality protection in the paint. There are plenty of ways for Achiuwa to dud tonight, but the massive minutes are hard to pass on for a player at these price points.

SF/SG Cam Whitmore, HOU | DK: $4.6k, FD: $5.7k | @ IND

Whitmore has been a great spark off of the Rockets bench in recent weeks and he’s another player who could soak up some additional minutes/usage with Fred VanVleet sidelined tonight. He’s averaging an exceptional 1.46 FPPM over his last seven games and Whitmore logged 28 minutes back on Jan. 13th when VanVleet missed his last game, and he ended up scoring 22 actual points and 35.25 DKFP/35.4 FDFP. Even if Whitmore ends up playing low/mid-20s minutes, the added possessions from the uptempo Pacers offense could help offset the lack of extensive playing time.

Other Forwards to Consider

PF Giannis Antetokounmpo, MIL | DK: N/A, FD: $12.1k | @ PHX (FD Main Slate Only)

SF/PF Kevin Durant, PHX | DK: N/A, FD: $9.9k | vs. MIL (FD Main Slate Only)

SF/PF Pascal Siakam, IND | DK: $8.3k, FD: $8.3k | vs. HOU

SF Jimmy Butler, MIA | DK: $7.5k, FD: $8.4k | vs. ORL (DK Preferred)

SF/SG Mikal Bridges, BKN | DK: $7.2k, FD: $7.9k | vs. DAL

SF Franz Wagner, ORL | DK: $7.1k, FD: $7.9k | @ MIA

SF/PF Josh Hart, NYK | DK: $6.3k, FD: $6.6k | vs. MEM

PF/C John Collins, UTA | DK: $6.1k, FD: $6.3k | vs. OKC

SF Aaron Nesmith, IND | DK: $5.7k, FD: $6.4k | vs. HOU

SF/PG Gregory “GG” Jackson, MEM | DK: $5.6k, FD: $5.8k | @ NYK (Preferred if starting again)

PF/C Naz Reid, MIN | DK: $4.3k, FD: $5.8k | @ CHI (DK Preferred)

SF/PF Royce O’Neale, BKN | DK: $4.1k, FD: $4.4k | vs. DAL (Preferred if starting)

PF/C Jonathan Isaac, ORL | DK: $3.6k, FD: $4.4k | @ MIA (DK Preferred)

Centers to Consider 🏀

C Rudy Gobert, MIN | DK: $6.9k, FD: $8k | @ CHI

I find it difficult to overlook Gobert on DraftKings where he’s under $7,000 for the first time since Nov. 28th. Gobert is a double-double machine and he’s 8th in the NBA with 2.1 blocks per game. The Bulls are a middling match-up for centers (CHI: 16th vs. Centers L20Games) and, while I’m not a huge fan of relying on opponent history spanning multiple seasons, Gobert tends to play Chicago very well. He has posted 50+ DKFP in six of his last eight games against the Bulls and he heads into tonight’s game on the heels of back-to-back impressive outings.

C Isaiah Hartenstein, NYK | DK: $6.4k, FD: $7.8k | vs. MEM

As alluded to in Precious Achiuwa’s spotlight in the forward section above, the Grizzlies may be a team we want to attack on the interior while guys like Jaren Jackson Jr. (hip/doubtful) and Xavier Tillman (knee/doubtful) are banged up, among many other Grizzlies. After missing a couple of games with injury and ramping his workload back up, Hartenstein is now back to playing full starter’s minutes. With Julius Randle sidelined, Hartenstein has been a bit more involved offensively, putting up 27 shots in the last three games, and he’s averaging 39.5 DKFP/39.4 FDFP in that span. The Grizzlies have also ranked 28th versus starting centers L20Games and Hartenstein popped off for 52.0 DKFP/54.0 FDFP when these teams last met on Jan. 13th. He sets up as a strong option tonight even if a blowout (NYK: -13) is a likely possibility.

Other Centers to Consider

C Alperen Sengun, HOU | DK: $9k, FD: $9.2k | @ IND

C Bam Adebayo, MIA | DK: $7.8k, FD: $8.3k | vs. ORL

C Chet Holmgren, OKC | DK: $7.5k, FD: $8.1k | @ UTA

C Myles Turner, IND | DK: $6k, FD: $6.9k | vs. HOU (Slight boost if J. Smith is out)

C Walker Kessler, UTA | DK: $4.6k, FD: $6.2k | vs. OKC (DK Preferred)
