Point Guards/Shooting Guards to Consider 🏀
PG/SG Dejounte Murray, ATL | DK: $8.3k, FD: $8.6k | @ DET
Trae Young (personal) will be missing his first game of the season due to the birth of his daughter. That will leave the keys of the offense in Dejounte Murray’s hands. In just under 90 minutes with Young off the court this season, Murray has taken on a +3.97% usage boost and averages +3.65 more assists (per 48 minutes). This will be a pace-down spot for the Hawks, but that will be the case with almost every team with Atlanta ranking second in pace on the season. The Pistons are 20th in defensive rating and Murray will bring a high floor/ceiling combo out of the $8k range today.
PG/SG Skylar Mays, POR | DK: $6.7k, FD: $6.8k | @ UTA
The Trailblazers are having problems maintaining healthy guard depth this season with Anfernee Simons, Malcolm Brogdon, and Scoot Henderson all sidelined with various injuries. That has thrust fourth-year guard Skylar Mays into the starting rotation for the previous two games. In his two starts, Mays has put up 33 points and 23 assists while scoring 39.0 DKFP/36.8 FDFP (@ LAL) and 41.0 DKFP/39.9 FDFP (@ SAC). It’s only a 56.5-minute sample size, but with the four injured Blazers (Simons, Brogdon, Henderson, and R. Williams) off the floor this season, Mays has handled a team-high +8.6% USG% boost and +26.43 FP per 48-minute average. Mays’ DFS salaries are rapidly rising given his temporary starting role, but there is still meat on the bone at these sub-$7k price points on both sites. The Blazers, who are 24th in pace, will receive a strong pace-up match-up with the Jazz (5th in pace). Utah also ranks 28th in defensive rating and Mays should receive big minutes even if the game trends toward a blowout in either direction.
PG Chris Paul, GSW | DK: $6.1k, FD: $6.1k | vs. MIN
Steph Curry was downgraded from questionable to out this afternoon so, with him missing his first game of the season, one would assume that veteran Chris Paul will re-enter the starting lineup after commanding the second unit for the previous nine games. Paul started the first two games of the season, scoring 38.5 DKFP/39.7 FDFP (vs. PHX) and 36.5 DKFP/36.4 FDFP (@ SAC) while averaging 33.5 minutes. Paul has averaged 0.98 FPPM on the season, and with Curry out of the picture, he owns a generous $6,100 price tag on both sites today. For fantasy purposes, the Timberwolves have not been a great team to target against. They don’t play particularly fast (19th in pace) and, more notably, they’ve ranked out as the top NBA team in defensive rating. Nonetheless, there will be plenty of room for 6x or better upside with Paul sliding in as a traditional starter.
Other Guards to Consider
PG Luka Doncic, DAL | DK: $11.8k, FD: $12k | @ NOP
PG Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, OKC | DK: $10.3k, FD: $11.1k | vs. SAS (DK Preferred)
PG Tyrese Maxey, PHI | DK: $8.9k, FD: $10.1k | vs. IND (DK Preferred)
PG/SG Kyrie Irving, DAL | DK: $8.7k, FD: $8.6k | @ NOP
PG/SG Jordan Clarkson, UTA | DK: $6.5k, FD: $6.9k | vs. POR
PG/SG De’Anthony Melton, PHI | DK: $5.5k, FD: $5.2k | vs. IND
PG Keyonte George, UTA | DK: $5.3k, FD: $4.6k | vs. POR (Presuming he continues to start)
PG/SG Dyson Daniels, NOP | DK: $5.3k, FD: $5.5k | vs. DAL (If he starts again)
SG/SF Cam Reddish, LAL | DK: $4.7k, FD: $5.4k | vs. MEM
SG Malaki Branham, SAS | DK: $3.9k, FD: $4.4k | @ OKC
Small Forwards/Power Forwards to Consider 🏀
PF Jerami Grant, POR | DK: $7.5k, FD: $6.7k | @ UTA
As usual, we’re more loaded at the guard positions on this slate but Grant is a forward option that we’ll want to keep on the radar today. Due to injuries, he’s locked into massive minutes and, most recently, he logged 41 minutes in regulation on Sunday. He’s averaging 0.92 FPPM this season, which isn’t overly impressive, but the big minutes combined with all of the current injuries that Portland is dealing with will provide Grant with a high floor. He exploded for a 38-point game against the Kings last Wednesday, where he ended the night with 63.25 DKFP/61.3 FDFP, so we know there is an excellent ceiling to go along with his high floor. He should have no major issues stuffing the stat sheet against an up-tempo, poor defensive team like the Jazz.
SF/PF Michael Porter Jr., DEN | DK: $6.7k, FD: $7.3k | vs. LAC
Porter’s usage rate has not increased drastically (+0.92%) with Jamal Murray (hamstring/out) off the floor this season, but he has seen a sizable minutes bump. He’s been on a tear across his last five games, where he is averaging 23.0 PPG, 8.4 RPG, 1.6 STL+BLK/Gm, and 40.5 DKFP/39.1 FDFP per game. Porter is also averaging 1.20 FPPM in six home games this season versus 1.07 FPPM in four away games. He’s not immune to a dud performance here and there but we’ll look for Porter to maintain his hot streak tonight, making him a strong forward option out of the mid-range.
SF/SG Bogdan Bogdanovic, ATL | DK: $4.9k, FD: $5.7k | @ DET
Bogdanovic projects to replace Trae Young (personal/out) in the starting lineup tonight. Whether he starts or continues coming off of the bench, Bogdanovic will be in line for additional minutes and usage. He’s hoisting 7.7 3PA/gm this season while averaging 25.0 Min/gm and 1.04 FPPM. If given low-to-mid 30s minutes, he’s a clear candidate to return value against a below-average defensive team like Detroit. Bogdanovic is also averaging 1.6 steals/gm this season along with a respectable 15.8% rebound% so he can chip in in other ways besides scoring. Boganovic put up plenty of 40+ FP games when he landed in the starting lineup last season so, while he’s an obvious value at his sub-$5k salary on DraftKings, there is still plenty of 6x to 8x potential at $5.7k on FanDuel as well.
Other Forwards to Consider
SF/SG Anthony Edwards, MIN | DK: $9.1k, FD: $9.8k | @ GSW (DK Preferred)
SF/PF Jimmy Butler, MIA | DK: $8.6k, FD: $8.1k | @ CHA (FD Preferred)
PF/C Victor Wembanyama, SAS | DK: $8.6k, FD: $8.7k | @ OKC
SF/PF Ausar Thompson, DET | DK: $7.1k, FD: $7.4k | vs. ATL
PF Aaron Gordon, DEN | DK: $6.8k, FD: $7.6k | vs. LAC
PF Jalen Johnson, ATL | DK: $6.2k, FD: $6.6k | @ DET
PF Cameron Johnson, BKN | DK: $5.4k, FD: $5.3k | vs. ORL
SF Jaime Jaquez Jr., MIA | DK: $4.5k, FD: $5.7k | @ CHA (DK Preferred)
SF/PF Ochai Agbaji, UTA | DK: $3.9k, FD: $4.1k | vs. POR (If starting)
PF/C Robert Covington, PHI | DK: $3.4k, FD: $3.9k | vs. IND
SF/SG Doug McDermott, SAS | DK: $3.3k, FD: $3.7k | @ OKC
Centers to Consider 🏀
C Joel Embiid, PHI | DK: $11.5k, FD: $12.3k | vs. IND
We’ll have to keep an eye on Embiid’s status since he is questionable with a hip issue but, barring further news, we’ll assume the reigning MVP will suit up tonight. These two teams just met two days ago and Embiid had another massive performance, dropping 37 points with 13 boards, seven assists, with a block and a steal apiece -- good for 68.25 DKFP/66.1 FDFP. The Pacers have been a great team to target with opposing bigs. Not only does Indiana play at the 3rd fastest pace but they check in at 27th in defensive rating and allow the most points in the paint per game (62.0) by a sizable margin. The Pacers are also below average (18th) in rebounding percentage. Embiid leads all NBA players with a 37.2% USG% so he’s in line for another huge night, as long as he isn’t facing any limitations (which will be a risk with him tonight). The 76ers are heavily reliant on the two-man PG/C duo of Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid to begin with but even more so now that they’ll be without Kelly Oubre Jr. and Nic Batum. If Embiid were to sit out, C Paul Reed (DK: $3.5k, FD: $4.1k) would instantly become one of the best values on the slate.
C Zach Collins, SAS | DK: $6.4k, FD: $6.3k | @ OKC
I don’t see Collins receiving much attention today but he’s poised for a strong performance due to a potential sizable usage boost. PF Keldon Johnson (knee) and PG Tre Jones (hamstring) will both miss their first game of the season tonight. It’s a very small sample size of 23.3 minutes, but with those two players off the court this season, Collins has handled a massive, team-leading +11.3% usage increase and averages +16.8 FP per 48 minutes. The only major concern here is the blowout potential with the Thunder stepping in as hefty -10.5 favorites. Both of these teams rank top-eight in pace and there is a high 238.5 over/under set for this game. A potential ceiling game may be incoming for Collins if this game stays competitive for all four quarters.
Other Centers to Consider
C Nikola Jokic, DEN | DK: $12.2k, FD: $12.8k | vs. LAC
C Bam Adebayo, MIA | DK: $9k, FD: $9.7k | @ CHA
PF/C Karl-Anthony Towns, MIN | DK: $8.1k, FD: $8.1k | @ GSW
C Chet Holmgren, OKC | DK: $7.6k, FD: $8k | vs. SAS
C Deandre Ayton, POR | DK: $7k, FD: $7.5k | @ UTA
C Nic Claxton, BKN | DK: $6.2k, FD: $7.5k | vs. ORL (DK Preferred)
C Clint Capela, ATL | DK: $5.6k, FD: $6.2k | @ DET
