DFS Main Slate Rundown 📰

A midweek eight-game slate hits the docket today! Gotta love a nice, mid-sized NBA slate, which has been a bit of a rarity in the early goings of the season. With 16 teams on the board, we have plenty of ways to go about attacking the slate while not having to worry about insane levels of injury chaos. Point Guards/Shooting Guards to Consider 🏀

PG Luka Doncic, DAL | DK: $12.1k, FD: $12k | @ WAS

Luka played easily the worst game of the season, and one of the worst of his career, against the Pelicans last night. The Mavs fell behind early and were never able to recover, which limited Doncic to 26 minutes, and he sat out the entire fourth quarter. Mark it up as an outlier performance and nothing more. Bounceback spots do not get much better than the match-up the Mavs have in front of them this evening. The Wizards are both the fastest-paced team in the NBA, and one of the worst defensively (25th DEFRTG). They struggle to defend primary ball handlers, and superstars, like Luka, tend to excel in this match-up. To top it off, Kyrie Irving is questionable to play tonight so his absence would place an even heftier workload on Doncic’s shoulders. Dallas leads the slate with a 125.0 implied team total, and Doncic should be well-rested on the back-to-back due to those limited minutes last night. Paying a $12k+ price tag for anyone is always a bit of a gamble, but if folks are feeling spurned by his dud performance last night, then it’s a great spot to gain some leverage on one of the highest-ceiling players in the NBA.

SG/SF Caris LeVert, CLE | DK: $6.4k, FD: $6.1k | @ POR

With Darius Garland (neck/out) sidelined tonight, LeVert will have a chance to move into the starting rotation and log heavy minutes. In LeVert’s lone start this season (10/28 vs. IND), he played 44 minutes, put up 31 points, and 52.25 DKFP/50 FDFP -- though, worth noting, star guard Donovan Mitchell was also out for that game. LeVert’s usage hasn’t seen a significant uptick with just Garland off the floor this season, but, the main draw is the added minutes. LeVert has averaged 1.02 FPPM so, give him mid-to-upper 30s minutes, and he’s a likely candidate to return rock-solid value out of the $6k range on both sites.

PG Coby White, CHI | DK: $5.5k, FD: $5.4k | vs. ORL

DeMar DeRozan (personal/out) will miss his first game of the season tonight. While that will lead to plenty of Zach LaVine shares tonight, it’s actually been Coby White who has seen the largest usage and fantasy point bumps (among the CHI starters) when DeRozan has been off the floor this season. In 87 minutes of playing without DeRozan, White has handled a hefty +6.7% usage increase and scored +13.2 FP per 48 minutes. Compare that to LaVine’s +2.9% usage and +2.6 (per 48 min.) boosts. Not saying LaVine is a bad option on this slate, but White may be the better fantasy point-per-dollar play. Orlando is not a match-up I’ve been targeting much. They don’t play particularly fast (20th in pace) and they’ve displayed strong defense (5th in DEFRTG) this season. But White has been playing well lately, averaging a hair over an FPPM, and there is a definite pathway to 6x or 7x value.

Other Guards to Consider

PG Tyrese Maxey, PHI | DK: $9.5k, FD: $9.8k | vs. BOS (Bump if Embiid sits)

PG/SG Donovan Mitchell, CLE | DK: $9.1k, FD: $9.7k | @ POR

PG Damian Lillard, MIL | DK: $9k, FD: $8.1k | @ TOR (Too cheap on FD w/ no Giannis)

PG De’Aaron Fox, SAC | DK: $8.3k, FD: $9.3k | @ LAL (DK Preferred)

SG/SF Zach LaVine, CHI | DK: $7.7k, FD: $7.9k | vs. ORL

PG/SG Skylar Mays, POR | DK: $7k, FD: $6.8k | vs. CLE (If M. Brogdon remains out)

PG/SG Derrick White, BOS | DK: $6k, FD: $6.1k | @ PHI (Preferred if J. Brown and/or K. Porzingis sit)

SG/SF Gradey Dick, TOR | DK: $3.5k, FD: $3.7k | vs. MIL

Small Forwards/Power Forwards to Consider 🏀

SF/PG Scottie Barnes, TOR | DK: $9.2k, FD: $9.5k | vs. MIL

Barnes continues to put up a breakout 2023-24 campaign, and he’s been as reliable as it gets, scoring at least 44.0 DKFP/42.4 FDFP in 9-of-10 games this season. Both OG Anunoby (20.1 USG%) and Gary Trent Jr. (19.4 USG%) are listed as doubtful today, with Dennis Schroder (21.1 USG%) also questionable to play. That’s a hefty chunk of potential usage that will need to be soaked up elsewhere, and Barnes (24.5 USG%) is the leading candidate to pick up some additional shots. Barnes has also contributed excellent premium stats with 3.6 STL+BLK/gm this season. The Bucks have seen a steep drop off in their defensive play this season, ranking 24th in DEFRTG. Now they’ll be playing without Giannis Antetokounmpo (calf/out) for this evening’s match-up. It was nice when Barnes was priced in the $7k and $8k ranges, but he remains a strong all-around play at his current salaries.

PF/C Julius Randle, NYK | DK: $8.2k, FD: $8.4k | @ ATL

Randle has found a nice groove as of late, averaging 45.4 DKFP/42.8 FDFP and 1.32 DKFPPM/1.25 FDFPPM over his previous five starts. The Hawks (3rd in pace) represent an excellent pace-up match-up for the Knicks, and Randle has averaged +33% more FPPG in pace-up games. The Hawks are also on the second leg of a back-to-back, and several of their starters (minus Trae Young, who was out) played big minutes in a close victory over Detroit last night. Randle should deliver with a quality floor today and always has the potential to pop off for 50-60 FP. He could also pick up a few extra shots if RJ Barrett (illness/questionable) is forced to miss a second consecutive game.

PF/C Bobby Portis, MIL | DK: $5.7k, FD: $5.7k | @ TOR

As soon as Giannis was ruled out today, Bobby Portis became one of the more obvious values on the slate. Portis is the leading candidate to replace Giannis in the starting rotation, especially with PF Jae Crowder (groin, abdominal/out) ruled out as well. Portis has averaged 1.18 FPPM this season, and he routinely put up massive 40 to 50+ FP games when he slid into the starting lineup and received increased minutes. It’s not an ideal match-up against the Raptors, who play slow and are strong defensively, but the Raptors also aren’t at 100% today. Overall, at $5,700 on both sites, Portis is going to be a tough guy to fade.

Other Forwards to Consider

SF/PF Jayson Tatum, BOS | DK: $10.1k, FD: $10.6k | @ PHI (Boost if J. Brown and/or K. Porzingis sit)

PF Kyle Kuzma, WAS | DK: $8.1k, FD: $7.7k | vs. DAL

PF/C Evan Mobley, CLE | DK: $7.3k, FD: $7.5k | @ POR

SF/PF Tobias Harris, PHI | DK: $6.6k, FD: $6.9k | vs. BOS

SF/PF Deni Avdija, WAS | DK: $6.2k, FD: $5.7k | vs. DAL

SF/SG Max Strus, CLE | DK: $5.6k, FD: $5.8k | @ POR

PF/C Moritz Wagner, ORL | DK: $4.8k, FD: $4.9k | @ CHI

SF Bilal Coulibaly, WAS | DK: $4.5k, FD: $5.2k | vs. DAL

PF Torrey Craig, CHI | DK: $4k, FD: $4.2k | vs. ORL

SF/PF Toumani Camara, POR | DK: $3.8k, FD: $3.9k | vs. CLE (Preferred if starting again)

Centers to Consider 🏀

C Jarrett Allen, CLE | DK: $5.9k, FD: $6.2k | @ POR

If Joel Embiid (hip/questionable) plays on the second leg of the B2B, then he’s a clear choice for a spend-up center on this slate. But we’ll stick to spotlighting a couple of cheaper center options today. Jarrett Allen missed the first handful of games this season due to an ankle injury, and he’s been on a minutes restriction since returning, playing no more than 28 minutes in any of his five games. It’s unclear when the Cavs will lift the restriction, but Allen is capable of of a big game if he plays on the higher end of his minutes limit. The key draw for Allen today is the match-up. Portland has been getting dominated by opposing centers recently. In their last five games, centers have put up DKFP scores of 39.5 (J. Collins), 62.25 (A. Davis), 56.75 (D. Sabonis), 32.75 (B. Biyombo), and 57.0 (J. Jackson Jr.). Joel Embiid also dropped a season-high 81.25 DKFP on them back on 10/29. Of course, Allen isn’t the same type of player as guys like Embiid, AD, or Sabonis, nor is he currently playing the same sort of minutes. But, at his current DFS salaries, we don’t need him to be. It’s a very small sample size, but Allen has picked up a +11.2% usage boost with Darius Garland (neck/out) off the floor this season. So, if he plays 28 minutes tonight (or happens to get his minutes restriction lifted), Allen could easily put forth his best fantasy performance of the young season.

PF/C Jabari Walker, POR | DK: $3.3k, FD: $3.9k | vs. CLE

There is a fair amount of value on this slate, but not much in the way of pure punt plays. Jabari Walker could be an exception, and he has center eligibility on DraftKings. Walker has played between 15 and 21 minutes off of the bench over the last four games. That isn’t much, but he’s also produced 1.02 FPPM this season. The Trailblazers (+10.5) are also the largest underdogs on this slate so there is potential for some added blowout minutes for Walker. I have less interest in him on FanDuel, where he’s a bit more expensive and only SF eligible. But 20 minutes from Walker would likely result in nice value at his $3,300 salary on DraftKings.

Other Centers to Consider

C Joel Embiid, PHI | DK: $11.6k, FD: $12.4k | vs. BOS (Currently questionable to play)

C Anthony Davis, LAL | DK: $10.2k, FD: $11.5k | vs. SAC (DK Preferred)

PF/C Pascal Siakam, TOR | DK: $8.7k, FD: $8.3k | vs. MIL

PF/C Karl-Anthony Towns, MIN | DK: $7.9k, FD: $8.1k | @ PHX

C Mitchell Robinson, NYK | DK: $5.5k, FD: $5.9k | @ ATL

C Daniel Gafford, WAS | DK: $5.4k, FD: $6.3k | vs. DAL
