DFS Main Slate Rundown 📰
Time to put on our small slate thinking caps as a five-game In-Season Tournament slate hits the docket this evening. There is one match-up that stands out, in a big way, among the rest. I had to do a double-take when I saw the over/under for the Pacers @ Hawks game, which is currently set at… 252.5?!?! I can’t recall the last time I saw an NBA over/under that high. You can rest assured that much of the DFS world will be loading up on that game, and it’s probably not a bad idea. It may be worth eating some chalk from that game and differentiating elsewhere. Anyhow, let’s get down to business! Best of luck!

Point Guards/Shooting Guards to Consider 🏀
PG Trae Young, ATL | DK: $9.1k, FD: $9.2k | vs. IND
It’s probably no surprise that we’re starting things off with a top player in this Pacers/Hawks game. Again, a 252.5 over/under is just insane and there’s a close spread (ATL -3.5) here as well. Trae Young remains as consistent of a DFS option as you can find and he has yet to post a true dud performance with a floor of 37.75 DKFP/35.7 FDFP across 11 games this season. He has had just one ceiling game this season so, even with the high total and both teams ranking top three in pace, I wouldn’t fault anyone for fading or lowering exposure to Trae Young in hopes that he just kinda has an “okay” game and scores around 40 FP. But he’ll be hard to look past if you’re building a cash lineup for tonight and there’s a good chance he can put up a 6x - 7x type of performance in this high-scoring atmosphere.
PG/SG Jordan Clarkson, UTA | DK: $7.3k, FD: $7.1k | @ LAL
I’m a little worried about the imminent Jordan Clarkson regression game but, right now, he’s scoring at a high level while providing strong peripherals. Over his last five games, Clarkson is averaging 29.6 PPG, 4.4 APG, 3.6 RPG, and 2.0 STL+BLK/gm resulting in 44.8 DKFP/44.12 FDFP per game. The Lakers rank mid-pack in pace and defensive rating, but they do have issues with primary ball handlers and scorers, like Clarkson. He’s not going to play at this high of a level all season and his bad games do tend to come on the road (40.0 DKFP/gm at home, 24.7 DKFP/gm away) but Clarkson is worth some shares at his low-$7k DFS salaries.
PG Keyonte George, UTA | DK: $5.5k, FD: $5.2k | @ LAL
We’ll stay in the Jazz starting backcourt and spotlight Keyonte George, who remains an affordable starting option out of the $5k range on both sites. George has operated as the Jazz's starting PG for the last five games. In that span, he’s nearly averaging a points/assists double-double with 10.2 PPG and 8.8 APG while scoring 0.96 FPPM and playing right around 30 Min/gm. The backcourt is where we want to attack the Lakers right now so both the aforementioned Jordan Clarkson and Keyonte George on firmly on the DFS radar today.
Other Guards to Consider
PG Tyrese Haliburton, IND | DK: $10.4k, FD: $10.3k | @ ATL
PG/SG Devin Booker, PHX | DK: $9.6k, FD: $10k | vs. POR
PG Darius Garland, CLE | DK: $7.6k, FD: $8.3k | @ PHX (DK Preferred)
PG D’Angelo Russell, LAL | DK: $6.7k, FD: $6.6k | vs. UTA
SG/SF Austin Reaves, LAL | DK: $5.7k, FD: $6k | vs. UTA
SG/SG Bogdan Bogdanovic, ATL | DK: $5.6k, FD: $5.8k | vs. IND
SG Benedict Mathurin, IND | DK: $5.3k, FD: $5.4k | @ ATL
PG/SG Eric Gordon, PHX | DK: $5.2k, FD: $5.3k | vs. POR
PG/SG Collin Sexton, UTA | DK: $4.5k, FD: $5.1k | @ LAL (DK Preferred)
PG Craig Porter Jr., CLE | DK: $3.8k, FD: $4.5k | @ PHI (Preferred if C. LeVert is out)
SG Jaden Springer, PHI | DK: $3.3k, FD: $3.5k | vs. CLE
Small Forwards/Power Forwards to Consider 🏀
SF/PF LeBron James, LAL | DK: $9.9k, FD: $10.5k | vs. UTA
As is tradition, make sure James (calf/questionable) is active before locking him into any lineups. This will be the only 10 o’clock ET start time on this slate, so be prepared to late swap off of him if news of him sitting out doesn’t drop until after the other remaining games have tipped off. LeBron has only missed one game this season and him being pinned with a “questionable” designation is pretty standard procedure these days so, in all likelihood, he’s playing tonight. There was some worry that LeBron would face some minutes limitations in the early goings of this season but, much like his questionable injury tags, that also seems like a farce. James has played at least 35 minutes in 9-of-12 games this season and he has posted at least 59.75 DKFP/56.2 FDFP in four of his previous five starts. The Jazz are a bottom-five team when it comes to defending “point forwards” like LeBron and his usage rate is up over 30% L5Games while averaging 29.6 PPG, 8.0 APG, 8.2 RPG, and 2.6 STL+BLK/gm. We’re all fawning over the crazy 252.5 over/under in the Pacers/Hawks match-up, but this nightcap showdown features a lofty 238.5 over/under with the Lakers owning a hefty 123.3 implied team total. James is also averaging +12.7% more FPPG at home this season. And it’s never a bad idea to ride some narratives when it comes to LeBron. Tonight’s narratives: it’s a primetime TNT match-up at home and the Lakers, who are 3-0 thus far in the In-Season Tournament, will be looking to sweep the group stage tonight while staving off the Jazz, who are 2-1 in the IST. The Jazz could leap ahead of the Lakers in the group play stage with a big win tonight. It’s still up for debate how much the players seriously care about this tournament but I feel pretty safe in assuming that LeBron cares to some degree, so we’ll look for him to stuff the stat sheet again this evening.
PF Jalen Johnson, ATL | DK: $6.1k, FD: $6.5k | vs. IND
Back to this Hawks/Pacers game, we go. Johnson is fairly priced out of the $6k range and offers up some affordable exposure to this likely shootout. He’s averaging 1.06 FPPM on the season and has played at least 31 minutes in six of his last seven starts, and 34+ minutes in four of those games. As one would expect with guys like Trae Young and Dejounte Murray on the floor, Johnson is not a high-usage player (17.5% USG%). But he is an efficient scorer, making 67.4% of his two-point shots and 44.1% of his three-pointers. He contributes heavily as a rebounder (7.9 RPG) and he’s also adding 1.9 STL+BLK/gm on the season. Johnson doesn’t really get into foul trouble too often so, pending an unlikely blowout, he should provide a nice floor/upside combo to lineups today.
PF/C Jabari Walker, POR | DK: $3.9k, FD: $4.2k | @ PHX
Alright, we’ve exclusively spotlighted players from two games up to this point so let’s expand to some of the other match-ups. This game between the Blazers and the Suns has a notable 13-point spread with Phoenix being the heavy favorites at home. That indicates some very real blowout potential and additional minutes for some bench players. Jabari Walker is handling some quality run off of the Portland bench as of late. He’s averaging 20.5 Min/gm over his last five and, in that span, he’s contributing 10.4 PPG, 5.4 RPG, 1.0 APG, 1.6 STL+BLK/gm, and 21.95 DKFP/22.18 FDFP per game. Walker is also averaging 1.07 FPPM in that five-game stretch as well. At his current salaries, he’ll be unlikely to completely flop, so long as he continues to play around 10 minutes, and he has shown some 6x-7x potential as well. And, even if the game stays relatively close, Walker has shown that he’s deserving of some decent playing time.
Other Forwards to Consider
PF Kevin Durant, PHX | DK: $10k, FD: $10.2k | vs. POR
SF/PF Lauri Markkanen, UTA | DK: $8.4k, FD: $8.6k | @ LAL
PF/C Evan Mobley, CLE | DK: $7.7k, FD: $8.1k | @ PHI
SF/PF Tobias Harris, PHI | DK: $7k, FD: $6.9k | vs. CLE
SF Franz Wagner, ORL | DK: $6.5k, FD: $6.8k | vs. TOR
PF/C John Collins, UTA | DK: $6.4k, FD: $6.4k | @ LAL
SF/SG Max Strus, CLE | DK: $6.2k, FD: $6.2k | @ PHI
SF/PG Bruce Brown, IND | DK: $5.5k, FD: $5.3k | @ ATL
PF Saddiq Bey, ATL | DK: $4.6k, FD: $5.1k | vs. IND
SF/PF Ochai Agbaji, UTA | DK: $4.1k, FD: $4.6k | @ LAL
Centers to Consider 🏀
C Myles Turner, IND | DK: $7.1k, FD: $7.5k | @ ATL
Turner could represent a lower-owned pathway to gaining exposure to this juicy Pacers/Hawks showdown. As of now, he’s pinned with a 6% pOwn% on DK and 13% pOwn% on FanDuel. There is a reason for his low ownership projections. The main caveat with Turner is his wide range of potential minutes on any given night. He does rack up his fair share of fouls and can play anywhere from low-20s to high-30s minutes in any particular game. But when he’s on the court, he is an effective fantasy performer. Turner is averaging an excellent 1.29 FPPM this season. The Hawks are allowing the 6th most points in the paint per game (54.2), though, Turner will often shoot from the mid-range and he’s also not afraid to hoist up a handful of three-point attempts. He’s averaging 4.7 3PA/gm and, by big man standards, he’s been fairly efficient with a 37.5% 3P%. The rebounds have been down for him lately (4.8 RPG L5Games) but, on the season, he has averaged 7.2 RPG with a solid 19.9% rebound%. He’s also contributing 2.4 STL+BLK/gm and the Hawks have allowed 3.2 STL+BLK/gm to opposing centers over their last 20 games. All-in-all, he will carry some moderate risk, but Turner does have slate-breaking upside if he can get the high minutes allotment tonight.
C Jusuf Nurkic, PHX | DK: $6.3k, FD: $6.6k | vs. POR
From one volatile center to another, we’ll put Jusuf Nurkic in the spotlight as well. Nurk will be taking on his former Portland team tonight, so inject some light “revenge” narrative in if you’d like. Much like the aforementioned Myles Turner, Nurkic’s minutes can vary drastically and we’ll also have some blowout concerns to worry about with this match-up (PHX -13). But Nurkic is worthy of some DFS attention today as the Trailblazers routinely get dominated by opposing centers. Portland is allowing the 4th most points in the paint per game (56.5) and they rank 25th in rebounding%. They’re also giving up an NBA-leading 7.5 blocks/gm to their opponents along with 9.3 steals/gm (3rd most). Nurkic is averaging more steals (1.2/gm) than blocks (0.9/gm) but he will have a chance to contribute in both of those premium stat categories tonight. Nurkic can score 20 FP just as easily as he could put up 40+ FP, so be aware of the wide range of outcomes. Overall, it will be a strong spot for a ceiling-type performance and he’s an appealing option at his current DFS salaries.
Other Centers to Consider
C Joel Embiid, PHI | DK: $11.2k, FD: $12k | vs. CLE
C Anthony Davis, LAL | DK: $9.7k, FD: $10.8k | vs. UTA (DK Preferred)
C Clint Capela, ATL | DK: $5.7k, FD: $6.2k | vs. IND
C Goga Bitadze, ORL | DK: $5k, FD: $5.2k | vs. TOR
C Drew Eubanks, PHX | DK: $4.1k, FD: $4.4k | vs. POR
