Note: NBA position designations are never going to perfectly align between the major DFS sites. For the purposes of these newsletters, positional designations will default to DraftKings.

Point Guards/Shooting Guards to Consider 🏀

PG Fred VanVleet, HOU | DK: $8.1k, FD: $8k | @ DAL

Today’s slate is loaded with some big-name guards and there are about a million different ways you could go about constructing your backcourt strategy. We’ll begin by placing Fred VanVleet in the spotlight. Not only does FVV lead all guards on the slate, but all players, regardless of position, in minutes played per game this season (37.4). He has seen even heavier minutes lately, with 40.1 Min/gm over his last five starts (and none of those games went into overtime). While his usage has not been sky-high, he is averaging a points/assists double-double over his last five games with 15.4 PPG and 11.0 APG to go along with 1.10 FPPM. The Mavs represent a strong match-up as they are both an up-tempo team (7th in pace) and grade out poor defensively (25th in DEFRTG). The Rockets are receiving the 3rd highest pace boost on this slate and VanVleet is averaging +14.2% more FPPG in road games this season. Based on his massive minutes allotment alone, he should be able to provide a strong floor while carrying 50+ FP upside in the tank as well.

SG/SF Brandon Miller, CHA | DK: $5.6k, FD: $5.8k | @ NYK

With LaMelo Ball (ankle/out) missing his first game of the season, I fully expect for PG/SG Terry Rozier (DK: $7.4k, FD: $7.9k) to be a fairly popular play. I have no issues with that, but I believe we can also go even cheaper and find a Hornets player who should handle an increased role today. In 132 minutes with LaMelo Ball off the floor this season, Brandon Miller has taken on a team-leading +4.5% usage increase to go along with +10.4 fantasy points per 48 minutes. One of his best games in his rookie campaign also came against the Knicks ten days ago where he poured in 29 points and secured 37.25 DKFP/33.6 FDFP. He also got off to a hot start against the Knicks back on Nov. 12th before an injury limited him to 10 minutes. That doesn’t necessarily mean that Miller is locked into a big performance tonight. The Knicks are 6th in defensive rating this season and play at the 2nd slowest pace. But the extra usage is there for the taking. This game does have some blowout potential (NYK -11.5) but Miller is a bit less likely to see his minutes slashed too much (in the event of a blowout) compared to the other starters since the Hornets would prefer to give their 2nd overall draft pick as much live in-game experience as they can.

Note: Miller is only SF eligible on FanDuel but has SG eligibility on DraftKings.

PG Kyle Lowry, MIA | DK: $5.1k, FD: $5.2k | vs. MIL

Jimmy Butler (ankle) is set to miss his fourth game of the season while Tyler Herro (ankle) remains out for the 10th consecutive game. In 77 minutes with both of those players off the floor this season, Lowry has garnered a team-high +7.45% usage increase. The floor has been low for Lowry this season but, as a low-end $5k player, he’s also displayed a 7x-8x ceiling in multiple games. If you need a cheap starting point guard that shouldn’t crush your lineups, Lowry will be a worthy option today.

Other Guards to Consider

PG De’Aaron Fox, SAC | DK: $9.8k, FD: $10k | vs. GSW

PG/SG Donovan Mitchell, CLE | DK: $9.2k, FD: $9.5k | vs. ATL

SG Anthony Edwards, MIN | DK: $8.9k, FD: $9.3k | vs. OKC

PG Jalen Brunson, NYK | DK: $8.2k, FD: $8.2k | vs. CHA

PG/SG Terry Rozier, CHA | DK: $7.4k, FD: $7.9k | @ NYK

PG Darius Garland, CLE | DK: $7.2k, FD: $7.7k | vs. ATL

SG Jalen Green, HOU | DK: $6.4k, FD: $6.8k | @ DAL

SG/SF Klay Thompson, GSW | DK: $5.9k, FD: $5.5k | @ SAC

PG/SG Immanuel Quickley, NYK | DK: $5.3k, FD: $5.6k | vs. CHA

PG/SG Josh Richardson, MIA | DK: $4.7k, FD: $5k | vs. MIL (Only if he’s starting again)

Small Forwards/Power Forwards to Consider 🏀

PF/C Karl-Anthony Towns, MIN | DK: $8.6k, FD: $8.5k | vs. OKC

KAT has notched at least 48.25 DKFP/43.4 FDFP in six of his previous nine games. The only three “down games” in that stretch were in relatively sizable blowouts. Today’s game against the Thunder should be a competitive one, with the Timberwolves being slight three-point home favorites. OKC (9th in pace) also provides a nice pace boost for Minnesota (19th in pace). If you’re not looking to spend heavily on forwards like Giannis or Tatum, KAT stands out as a strong play with plenty of high-end upside out of the mid-$8k range today.

PF/C Evan Mobley, CLE | DK: $7.6k, FD: $7.8k | @ ATL

Mobley may not be the most exciting player to roster in DFS but he rarely posts a complete dud performance while still carrying GPP-winning upside. The Cavs (17th in pace) receive a nice pace-up boost against the Hawks (3rd in pace) today and Mobley has been excellent at home this season where he is averaging 15.9 PPG, 11.9 RPG, 3.6 APG, and 2.0 STL+BLK/gm. Mobley also shoots almost exclusively from two-point range and the Hawks allow the 4th most points from two-pointers. Rolling with Mobley out of the $7k range feels like a smart investment on this slate.

Jamie Jaquez Jr., MIA | DK: $5.4k, FD: $6k | vs. MIL

Jaquez has started in each of the previous three games that Jimmy Butler has sat out, so we should expect him in the starting rotation again today. The rookie is finding a nice groove for the shorthanded Heat as of late, averaging 18.5 PPG and 31.8 Min/gm over his previous four contests. He’ll be a better bargain on DraftKings, but he’s far from a poor play at $6k on FanDuel as well.

Other Forwards to Consider

SF/PF Jayson Tatum, BOS | DK: $10.3k, FD: $10.6k | vs. CHI

PF/C Julius Randle, NYK | DK: $8.7k, FD: $8.2k | vs. CHA

SF/PF Miles Bridges, CHA | DK: $8k, FD: $8k | @ NYK

PF/C Draymond Green, GSW | DK: $6.2k, $6k | @ SAC

PF Cameron Johnson, BKN | DK: $6.1k, FD: $6.4k | vs. TOR

PF Jabari Smith Jr., HOU | DK: $5.9k, FD: $6.5k | @ DAL

PF Saddiq Bey, ATL | DK: $5.6k, FD: $5.5k | @ CLE

SF/SG Caleb Martin, MIA | DK: $4.5k, FD: $5.2k | vs. MIL

PF/C Kevin Love, MIA | DK: $4k, FD: $4.2k | vs. MIL

Centers to Consider 🏀

C Alperen Sengun, HOU | DK: $8.5k, FD: $8.4k | @ DAL

His DFS prices continue to rise but Sengun keeps giving DraftKings and FanDuel reasons to gradually bump him up. He is now averaging 1.32 FPPM on the season and his minutes have spiked to 35.2 Min/gm over his last five starts. Sengun also has two massive 55+ FP performances within his last three games. The Mavs can be beaten by opposing centers as they have allowed the 3rd most points in the paint per game and rank 26th in rebounding percentage. Sengun can contribute in all five statistical categories and the “Discount Jokic” moniker is becoming more and more sensible by the day.

C Jarrett Allen, CLE | DK: $6.4k, FD: $6.8k | vs. ATL

The minutes restriction seems to be a thing of the past for Allen now that he has logged 37 minutes and 35 minutes in two of his last four games. The extra minutes have quite clearly unlocked his upside as he dropped 47.25 DKFP/44.1 FDFP on the 76ers last Tuesday and 53.5 DKFP/55.3 FDFP on the Lakers on Saturday. The Cavs head into tonight leading the slate with a 121.0 implied team total and the Hawks allow plenty of points in the paint to opposing bigs and their fast pace results in a ton of possessions and rebound opportunities. We may see another ceiling type of performance out of Allen this evening.

Other Centers to Consider

C Domantas Sabonis, SAC | DK: $10.1k, FD: $9.9k | vs. GSW

C Bam Adebayo, MIA | DK: $9.2k, FD: $9.4k | vs. MIL

C Chet Holmgren, OKC | DK: $7.8k, FD: $8.3k | @ MIN (DK Preferred)

C Nic Claxton, BKN | DK: $6.3k, FD: $7.6k | vs. TOR (DK Preferred)

C Mitchell Robinson, NYK | DK: $5.2k, FD: $5.9k | vs. CHA (DK Preferred)
