DFS Main Slate Rundown 📰

Happy Humpday! We have a comfortable seven games loaded up on this mid-week slate. As usual, be prepared to make some last-minute changes or late swaps in case certain injury news doesn’t drop in a timely manner! The big-time players to watch out for are Kevin Durant, Nikola Jokic, and Jamal Murray -- who are all questionable today. LeBron James is also carrying his usual “questionable” designation but that’s just kinda the routine in Laker Land, and James is most likely suiting up… but still keep an eye on his status nonetheless.

Sidenote: Like a lot of people seem to be this time of year, I’m flying a bit under the weather with a nagging cold so the player spotlights will be more on the shorter side today. We’ll still be looking to crack the code for this slate so let’s get into it! Best of luck!

Point Guards/Shooting Guards to Consider 🏀

SG/SF Desmond Bane, MEM | DK: $8.5k, FD: $8.3k | vs. UTA

Bane is coming off of a pair of poor shooting performances but we’ll look for him to get back on track tonight. The Grizzlies are still extremely shorthanded, which leaves plenty of usage to fall on Bane’s shoulders. It’s also a strong get-right spot against a Jazz team that ranks 26th in DEFRTG and struggles to defend opposing scorers and primary ball handlers. When Memphis met with Utah earlier this month, Bane dropped 37 points with eight assists, four rebounds, two blocks, and a steal across 38 minutes played -- good for 62.0 DKFP/59.8 FDFP. It’s hard to predict a similar performance tonight, but that is where his ceiling sits in this match-up.

PG/SG Cole Anthony, ORL | DK: $6.7k, FD: $6.4k | vs. WAS

The Magic continue to play without Markelle Fultz and Wendell Carter Jr. so Cole Anthony has been a bit more involved as of late, even though he plays off of the Orlando bench. He exploded for a 30/7/7 game against the Hornets on Sunday, netting himself 54.75 DKFP/55.9 FDFP. That was clearly an outlier performance, but Anthony is now up to a strong 1.26 FPPM average over his last five games. If he can manage to play around 30-32 minutes, he’ll be a solid bet to return value if he maintains his recent productive rate of play. As usual, the Wizards are one of the best teams to target with opposing players as they check in at 2nd in pace and 28th in DEFRTG.

PG Aaron Holiday, HOU | DK: $4.1k, FD: $3.9k | @ DEN

The Rockets ruled out both Fred VanVleet (thumb) and Jae’Sean Tate (knee) on their second leg of a back-to-back. On top of existing injury absences, that will leave them quite shorthanded in the backcourt. We should expect Aaron Holiday to slide into the rotation as the Rockets’ starting point guard. Holiday is not the most prolific fantasy scorer, but he is averaging a decent enough 0.73 FPPM this season, which is upped to 0.85 FPPM over his last five games. Regardless, if he starts and plays 30+ minutes, he’ll almost certainly return some value on these low-end salaries.

Small Forwards/Power Forwards to Consider 🏀

SF/SG Paul George, LAC | DK: $8.8k, FD: $8.6k | @ SAC

This game will feature the second-highest total (230.5) and closest spread (LAC -1.5) on the slate, so it’s probably worth getting exposure to some players in this one. George put up a total dud in his last game while shooting an abysmal 2-of-13 from the field, however, that was just his third game of the season where he scored fewer than 41.75 DKFP/40.3 FDFP. We can likely expect a bounce-back performance out of George tonight and he’ll provide a strong floor for a sub-$9k player. George is also averaging 48.9 DKFP/46.7 FDFP in close games this season and that’s what we’re expecting out of this Clippers/Kings nightcap match-up this evening.

PF/C Jaren Jackson Jr. MEM | DK: $7.4k, FD: $7.8k | vs. UTA

The ceiling games have not been there for JJJ lately, but he is averaging a hair over 33.0 FPPG with a 30+% USG% across his last five contests and we know he has 50+ or even 60+ fantasy point potential when he takes over a game. Now that he’s back down in the $7k pricing tier, we can feel a little better about rolling him out. Jaren Jackson Jr. and Desmond Bane (highlighted above) lead the charge for a depleted Grizzlies roster and they’ll be in a strong spot against the Jazz (26th in DEFRTG) who will be without their highest-graded defender, Lauri Markkanen (hamstring/out).

PF Nicolas Batum, PHI | DK: $4.2k, FD: $4.5k | @ NOP

It’s not always pretty but Nic Batum is a cheap starter on a good team and he’s coming off of back-to-back 30+ fantasy point performances. He can seemingly score under 15 FP just as easily as he can go over 30 FP but, at $4.2k/$4.5k price tags, we can afford to take a gamble on him today if it means we get to load up on some superstars elsewhere in our lineup. Despite his low 7.9% usage rate, Batum has been efficient when he does put up shots. He’s making 77.8% of his two-point shots this season along with 50% of his 3PA.

Centers to Consider 🏀

C Alperen Sengun, HOU | DK: $8.5k, FD: $8.4k | @ DEN

We’ve got “Discount Jokic” going up against the real deal today (assuming Jokic plays). I am always a bit hesitant to roster bigs when they’re on the road in Denver, due to the elevation having a larger toll on the bigger-bodied players. But Sengun has now dropped three 50+ fantasy point performances in his last four games, one of which was a 21/15/8 against Jokic and the Nuggets last Friday -- a game in which Sengun played 43 minutes (all in regulation). I wouldn’t label this as a “safe” play, but we have to continue taking shots on Sengun’s upside while he remains a mid-$8k player.

C Jalen Duren, DET | DK: $6.9k, FD: $7k | vs. LAL

There are a number of great center options on this slate and, if you’re on DraftKings, it may be one of those days where rolling with a double-center lineup strategy pays off. Duren, who missed a handful of games recently with an ankle injury, re-entered the starting rotation on Monday after playing 29 minutes off the bench in his return to action last Friday. Injuries have plagued him this season but when he’s out there for his usual 30-35 minutes, he tends to post some eye-catching fantasy scores. He’s averaging a strong 1.21 FPPM this season and the Lakers tend to be a plus match-up for opposing centers. The Lakers are giving up 37.9 DKFP/37.0 FDFP per game to starting centers. At $6.9k/$7k, Duren brings a nice amount of 40+ FP upside to lineups at an affordable price.
