Point Guards/Shooting Guards to Consider 🏀
PG Tyler Herro, MIA | DK: $7.7k, FD: $7.8k | vs. TOR
Herro has had the hot hand during Miami’s three-game win streak, averaging 27.3 PPG, 6.3 RPG, and 6.0 APG, while shooting 58% FG%/51.7% 3P% in that span. Herro has already posted a couple of strong performances against the Raptors this season, so we should feel great about him in this spot. The Raptors are 11th in pace, 22nd in DEFRTG, and they’re allowing 51.5 FPPG to starting PGs over their last five.
PG/SG Derrick White, BOS | DK: $6.7k, FD: $7k | vs. DET
White is coming off of a pair of lackluster performances -- though his peripherals have remained strong during his last two games, his scoring has taken a hit thanks to shooting just 4-of-19 from the field in that span. With Jayson Tatum (knee) now officially ruled out, the floor and ceiling only rise for White. In just under 200 minutes with Tatum off the floor this season, White has handled a modest usage bump but has averaged +4.1 more FP per 32 minutes. Tatum’s only missed game this season came eight days ago when the Celtics had this same exact match-up against the Pistons at home. In that game, Derrick White posted a 14/4/11 stat line with two steals and two blocks across 38 minutes -- good for 46.5 DKFP/47.30 FDFP. PG Jrue Holiday was also out for that game so it’s likely that White’s assist rate will take a hit, but he could counter that by taking on a more prominent scoring role. White is also averaging +19.8% more FPPG at home this season and the Pistons have ranked 27th versus starting SGs L10Games.
PG Dru Smith, MIA | DK: $3.5k, FD: $3.9k | vs. TOR
Bit of a gamble for our cheap guard spotlight today but Dru Smith seems to be making a case as a consistent contributor off of the Heat bench lately. He has logged between 21 and 29 minutes in three of the last four games. Smith has also closed each of the previous two games by playing the entire fourth quarter in both contests. Miami’s last two games (vs. CLE and vs. PHX) were fairly close down the stretch, so it isn’t as if Dru Smith was simply eating up garbage time minutes. Smith has averaged a respectable 0.90 FPPM this season so if he’s going to continue playing mid-to-upper 20s minutes, he should work out as a solid value option on this small slate.
Other Guards to Consider
PG Cade Cunningham, DET at BOS
PG/SG CJ McCollum, NOP vs. SAC
PG/SG Malik Monk, SAC at NOP
PG/SG Payton Pritchard, BOS vs. DET
SG/SF Malik Beasley, DET at BOS
PG Jrue Holiday, BOS vs. DET
SG Duncan Robinson, MIA vs. TOR
Small Forwards/Power Forwards to Consider 🏀
SF/SG Jaylen Brown, BOS | DK: $8.2k, FD: $8.6k | vs. DET
Jaylen Brown will be another difficult Celtics player to look past today as he should shoulder plenty of the offensive responsibility this evening. In 81 minutes with both Jayson Tatum and Sam Hauser off the court this season, Brown’s usage rate has climbed +5.4 percentage points but, more notably, he has averaged a whopping +16.7 more FP per 32 minutes. Much like Derrick White, Jaylen Brown had a big game against the Pistons eight days ago, posting 53.5 DKFP/53.7 FDFP across 38 minutes while rocking a 32.0% USG%. Barring injury, I don’t see how Brown duds in this spot and, if the Pistons can keep things competitive, he could easily pop for another 50+ FP performance.
SF/SG Trey Murphy III, NOP | DK: $6.5k, FD: $6.4k | vs. SAC
The Pelicans continue to operate without several key starters and bench players. They’re particularly weak in the frontcourt which should leave Murphy with as many minutes as he can handle. Murphy re-entered the starting rotation in the Pelicans’ previous game against the Spurs where he logged 38 minutes. Despite posting a fairly modest 21.5% USG% in that game, Murphy poured in a team-leading 25 points to go along with six boards, five assists, a block, and a steal -- good for 45.5 DKFP/44.7 FDFP. I believe we can get a similar result out of Murphy tonight in a game that features a slate-high 232 over/under and the closest spread of the slate (NOP +7). It also doesn’t hurt that the Pelicans are at home tonight where Murphy has shot 48.5% FG%/42.9% 3P% in five home games compared to 38.5% FG%/29.0% 3P% across his seven road games.
SF/PF Herbert Jones, NOP | DK: $5k, FD: $5.3k | vs. SAC
We’ll stay in the Pelicans frontcourt and spotlight a modestly-priced Herbert Jones. A shoulder injury kept Jones out of the lineup for 18 games but, out of necessity, he has been thrust into a vital role since making his return three games ago. In that three-game span, Jones is averaging 32.5 DKFP/33.3 FDFP while playing 35.7 Min/gm. Jones is not known as a great FPPM scorer but, like the aforementioned Trey Murphy III, he should be in line for nearly 40 minutes tonight barring a blowout, which would be plenty of time for him to return value on these low $5k salaries.
Other Forwards to Consider
SF RJ Barrett, TOR at MIA
SF/PF Jimmy Butler, MIA vs. TOR
PF Tobias Harris, DET at BOS
PF/C Al Horford, BOS vs. DET
SF/SG Kevin Huerter, SAC at NOP
PF/C Jonathan Mogbo, TOR at MIA
SF/PF Haywood Highsmith, MIA vs. TOR
PF Drew Peterson, BOS vs. DET
Centers to Consider 🏀
C Kristaps Porzingis, BOS | DK: $7.3k, FD: $8.2k | vs. DET
We’ll give one final Celtics spotlight to Kristaps Porzingis. Porzingis has played in just a handful of games this season, so the sample sizes are small, but he has handled a team-leading +5.7 percentage points increase to his usage rate with Tatum off the floor. He also got up to a season-high 33 minutes in his most recent game and, with the NBA Cup taking center stage lately, Porzingis and the Celtics have had five days to rest up ahead of tonight’s contest. The Pistons have ranked 24th versus starting centers L10Games and they may be without their top rebounder and shot blocker, Jalen Duren (wrist/questionable).
C Yves Missi, NOP | DK: $5k, FD: $5.6k | vs. SAC
Is it fair to call Yves Missi the Goga Bitadze of Yves Missis? Lately, you’re getting either about 25 FP or 40+ FP out of him, without anything in between. But he is averaging a double-double and a solid 1.09 FPPM over his last five games, and he has scored at least 41.5 DKFP/39.4 FDFP in four of his last eight games. The match-up isn’t necessarily great as the Kings are top 10 in rebounding% and have allowed the second-fewest points in the paint per game. That said, starting centers are averaging 35.2 DKFP/35.7 FDFP against Sacramento over their last 20 games. At these price points for Missi, we’ll certainly be content with a result in that range.
Other Centers to Consider
C Domantas Sabonis, SAC at NOP
C Bam Adebayo, MIA vs. TOR
C Isaiah Stewart, DET at BOS (Preferred if Duren is out)
C Kevin Love, MIA vs. TOR
PF/C Isaac Jones, SAC at NOP
C Paul Reed, DET at BOS (Only if Duren is out)
