DFS Main Slate Rundown 📰

Every team gets Christmas Eve off tomorrow so there will be a sizable 11-game main slate loaded onto the Monday ticket! There are three additional games in the 10 o’clock ET window, but both DraftKings and FanDuel have elected to exclude them from their respective main slates. But, just be aware, if you’re interested in some late slate action, a nice little three-gamer is posted. The injury report has plenty of players on it today, but by large slate standards, it isn’t overly hectic. Let’s do a little last-minute SHIPPING before Santa comes to town. Best of luck & I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas!

Top DraftKings & FanDuel DFS Plays

Note: NBA position designations are never going to perfectly align between the major DFS sites. For the purposes of these newsletters, positional designations will default to DraftKings.

Point Guards/Shooting Guards to Consider 🏀

PG Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, OKC | DK: $10.1k, FD: $11k | vs. WAS

It’s a good day for OKC stat-padding with the Wizards (4th in pace, 29th in DEFRTG) in town. SGA, who is 4th in the NBA with a 32.9% USG%, is generally one of the more reliable DFS assets and he should have no issues against the Wizards, who have ranked 29th versus starting PGs L20Games. The Thunder have not played since Friday and SGA has averaged +10% more FPPG when well-rested. They also do not play again until Thursday so, perhaps even in the event of a blowout (OKC -18), Gilgeous-Alexander could still find his way to mid-30s minutes in which case a ceiling game becomes a much stronger possibility.

PG Anfernee Simons, POR | DK: $6.5k, FD: $7k | at DAL

Simons always has a bit of volatility attached to him but he’s been on a nice roll from a DFS perspective lately, scoring at least 38.0 DKFP/37.3 FDFP across his last four games while averaging 1.24 FPPM in that span. Portland (14th in pace) receives a solid pace boost versus Dallas (7th in pace) and the Mavs have not been particularly good at defending starting PGs, ranking 26th versus the position L20Games. When these two teams met back on December 1st, Simons poured in 41.75 DKFP/38.1 FDFP in just 23 minutes before fouling out. He generally plays mid-to-upper 30s minutes so, barring foul trouble or a massive blowout, he could flirt with 50 FP upside in this one.

PG Ryan Rollins, MIL | DK: $3.5k, FD: $3.8k | at CHI

Rollins sets up as one of the more obvious value targets on this slate. Milwaukee will be without their two stars, Giannis Antetokounmpo (back) and Damian Lillard (calf). The Lillard absence should put Rollins back in the starting lineup. He got a spot start against the Wizards on Saturday and went on to post 22.25 DKFP/20.6 FDFP across 31 minutes of action. Considering Rollins has averaged 1.09 FPPM across his 13 games played this season, that recent result should probably be viewed as his floor. The shorthanded Bucks do receive the always enticing Bulls match-up -- Chicago ranks 2nd in pace, 25th in DEFRTG, and 28th versus starting PGs L20Games.

Other Guards to Consider

PG LaMelo Ball, CHA vs. HOU

PG/SG Anthony Edwards, MIN at ATL

PG Jalen Brunson, NYK vs. TOR

PG/SG Tyler Herro, MIA vs. BKN

PG Darius Garland, CLE vs. UTA

SG/SF Norman Powell, LAC at MEM

PG Ben Simmons, BKN at MIA

PG/SG Collin Sexton, UTA at CLE

SG/SF Devin Vassell, SAS at PHI

SG Jordan Clarkson, UTA at CLE

PG/SG Malcolm Brogdon, WAS at OKC

PG Spencer Dinwiddie, DAL vs. POR (Preferred is Luka is out + Dinwiddie starts again)

PG/SG Cole Anthony, ORL vs. BOS (Preferred if J. Suggs is out)

PG Kevin Porter Jr., LAC at MEM

PG Dru Smith, MIA vs. BKN (Preferred if J. Butler is out + Smith starts again)

PG/SG Donte DiVincenzo, MIN at ATL

SG/SF Svi Mykhailiuk, UTA at CLE (Preferred if starting again)

Small Forwards/Power Forwards to Consider 🏀

PF/C Julius Randle, MIN | DK: $7.3k, FD: $7k | at ATL

Randle hasn’t put up many huge games with his new Timberwolves squad, but he’s generally a safe floor play every night, and his DFS price points are reaching season lows. Minnesota (24th in pace) gets a significant pace boost against Atlanta (3rd in pace) and the Hawks have ranked dead last versus starting PFs L20Games, allowing 39.6 DKFP/39.9 FDFP per game to the position.

PF/C Bobby Portis, MIL | DK: $6.3k, FD: $7.1k | at CHI

Bobby Portis chalk night is imminent but I’m not sure how you can comfortably fade him with both Giannis and Lillard out. Both players were out on Saturday against the Wizards and Portis went on to put up his best Greek Freak impersonation, scoring 34 points with 10 rebounds, eight assists, three steals, and a block -- all in all, he netted himself a whopping 70.0 DKFP/68.0 FDFP in 32 minutes. In just under 100 minutes with both Giannis and Lillard off the floor this season, Portis has handled a massive +12.9% USG% increase and has averaged +14.1 FP per 32 minutes. He gets a similarly strong match-up tonight against the fast-paced Bulls who are also near the bottom of the league in all major defensive metrics.

PF/C Larry Nance Jr., ATL | DK: $4.5k, FD: $5.6k | vs. MIN

In the two games that Nance has operated in the Onyeka Okongwu (knee/out) role, he has provided 48.25 DKFP/45.6 FDFP and 32.5 DKFP/34.0 FDFP while averaging 1.47 FPPM. The Timberwolves are among the best defensive teams in the NBA, ranking 5th in overall DEFRTG. However, they check in at 25th versus reserves L20Games, so I wouldn’t view this as an awful match-up for Nance. And, if he’s going to continue to play mid-20s minutes, his per-minute production simply gives him a ton of upside even at his increasing DFS salaries.

Other Forwards to Consider

SF/PF Jayson Tatum, BOS at ORL

PF Jalen Williams, OKC vs. WAS

PF/C Evan Mobley, CLE vs. UTA

SF/PF Lauri Markkanen, UTA at CLE

SF/SG Khris Middleton, MIL at CHI

PF Santi Aldama, MEM vs. LAC

SF Dillon Brooks, HOU at CHA

SF Jaden McDaniels, MIN at ATL

PF/C Naz Reid, MIN at ATL

SF/SG Gary Trent Jr., MIL at CHI

SF/PF Dean Wade, CLE vs. UTA (Currently questionable)

PF/C Jonathan Isaac, ORL vs. BOS

PF/C Kyle Filipowski, UTA at CLE

Centers to Consider 🏀

C Joel Embiid, PHI | DK: $9.6k, FD: $10.5k | vs. SAS

Embiid, once a fan favorite and DFS darling, has fallen out of favor this season but we know if he plays a full game, he can still pop off for a huge game. He had a big performance in his last game versus the Hornets on Friday, scoring 34 points and 60.75 DKFP/61.5 FDFP across 31 minutes. He’s not on the injury report today, which is a positive sign for the oft-injured big man, and he may have some extra motivation as he faces off with Victor Wembanyama. The last time Embiid suited up against the Spurs, on January 22nd of last season, he exploded for a career game, scoring 70 actual points and over ONE HUNDRED fantasy points. Of course, we’re not expecting a performance anywhere close to that, but it is a reminder that Embiid is one of perhaps just three or four players in the NBA capable of such a game.

C Zach Edey, MEM | DK: $4.8k, FD: $5.3k | vs. LAC

I’m not sure I’d label this an exciting play but Edey has averaged a strong 1.19 FPPM in his rookie season and he has been reinstated as the Grizzlies’ starting center. He had a dud in his last game but did near a season-high in minutes (27). If he receives the same sort of workload tonight, I doubt he’ll go on to disappoint twice in a row. The match-up could also improve if Clippers starting center Ivica Zubac (calf/questionable) is ruled out.

Other Centers to Consider

C Victor Wembanyama, SAS at PHI

C Karl-Anthony Towns, NYK vs. TOR

C Bam Adebayo, MIA vs. BKN

C Kristaps Porzingis, BOS at ORL

C Ivica Zubac, LAC at MEM (Currently questionable)

C Isaiah Hartenstein, OKC vs. WAS

C Deandre Ayton, POR at DAL

C Goga Bitadze, ORL vs. BOS

C Dereck Lively II, DAL vs. POR

C Day’Ron Sharpe, BKN at MIA
