DFS Main Slate Rundown 📰

A solid NBA six-gamer hits the board this Wednesday evening! There are some pretty strong matchups ahead of us today, which is reflected in the Vegas spreads. Only one game (MIL at DEN) has a spread larger than 5.5 points. There are several impact players on today’s injury report but most of the big names are either ruled out or listed as probable, so the guesswork on who will be available tonight is minimal. The two most significant situations to monitor will involve star Clippers’ PG James Harden (questionable) and the Nuggets’ lineup as three core starters, Nikola Jokic, Michael Porter Jr., and Aaron Gordon, are all listed as questionable (Update: Jayson Tatum was just upgraded from “doubtful” to “questionable” so he is another star player to monitor). This should be a fun little slate so let’s lock in! Best of luck! Also, happy MLB Eve to all my fellow baseball fans! Keep an eye out for the Opening Day newsletter dropping later this evening!

Point Guards/Shooting Guards to Consider 🏀

PG/SG Quentin Grimes, PHI | DK: $9.1k, FD: $8.7k | vs. WAS

Grimes certainly isn’t the most talented guard on this slate, and it feels strange to even consider a player of his caliber at these price points, but you can’t argue against the workload and usage rate that he has practically been forced into for this depleted 76ers’ team. His 35.1% USG% ranks 2nd on this entire slate, only behind the much more expensive Luka Doncic (DK: $12k, FD: $11.6k) whose upside has taken a hit with LeBron (probable) and other Lakers getting healthier. Grimes sat out the 76ers’ previous game on Monday, but it was just for rest purposes, so he should be fresh heading into tonight’s action. Grimes is averaging over 30 PPG across his L5Games, alongside 6.2 APG, 4.8 RPG, and 2.2 STL+BLK/gm, which has resulted in a strong 1.43 FPPM average. That per-minute output is higher than more expensive players like James Harden, Karl-Anthony Towns, LeBron James, and Devin Booker in their L5Games, respectively. When accounting for all of the 76ers’ players who are sidelined tonight (it’s a long list, so I won’t even name them), we’ll see that Grimes has handled a massive +10.5% USG% increase and has averaged +10.4 FP per 32 minutes. As usual, there are no issues with this Wizards matchup. Washington is a bottom-three defense, they play at the 4th fastest pace, and they’re also going to be fairly shorthanded tonight, leading to the 76ers (-3) being rare favorites.

PG Tyrese Haliburton, IND | DK: $8.4k, FD: $9.2k | vs. LAL

Haliburton has a pair of three-game stretches where he has been sidelined this month, but he appears to be back at full strength and doesn’t carry an injury designation into tonight’s clash with the Lakers. Haliburton has ripped off 11 straight points/assists double-doubles and his outstanding 1.52 FPPM average over his L5Games trails only Luka Doncic and Nikola Jokic (questionable) on this slate. Over their last five games, the Lakers rank 25th in DEFRTG and they check in at dead last versus starting PGs, allowing an NBA-worst 1.41 FPPM to the position. This matchup is pinned with the highest total (236.5 O/U) and closest spread (IND +1.5) on the slate. Haliburton also averages +13.9% more FPPG at home so, all-in-all, this sets up as a prime spot for one of the top facilitators in the NBA.

PG Kevin Porter Jr., MIL | DK: $4.6k, FD: $4.7k | at DEN

Tough news for the Bucks yesterday as it was announced that Damian Lillard will be out indefinitely after being diagnosed with DVT (blood clot) in his right calf. To make matters worse, Giannis Antetkounmpo popped up on the injury report today with a foot injury, which will hold him out of tonight’s game. Meanwhile, Bobby Portis continues to serve his 25-game suspension. That equates to a lot of production that will need to be picked up by other Bucks’ players. Milwaukee will likely continue to roll with Ryan Rollins as their interim starting point guard, but Kevin Porter Jr. is more productive from a fantasy standpoint and should play mid-20s minutes tonight. He has rarely disappointed when given increased minutes and has averaged a stout 1.20 FPPM over his last 20 games. He will be a clear value target on this slate.

Other Guards to Consider

PG Luka Doncic, LAL at IND

PG/SG Jamal Murray, DEN vs. MIL (Boost if any combo of Jokic/Porter/Gordon are out)

SG/SF Christian Braun, DEN vs. MIL (Preferred if at least two of Jokic/Porter/Gordon are out)

PG/SG Jared Butler, PHI vs. WAS

PG D’Angelo Russell, BKN vs. TOR

PG/SG Carlton Carrington, WAS at PHI

PG/SG Cameron Payne, NYK vs. LAC

PG Ryan Rollins, MIL at DEN (Only if starting)

PG/SG AJ Johnson, WAS at PHI

SG/SF Gary Trent Jr., MIL at DEN

PG Jamal Shead, TOR at BKN (Preferred if starting)

PG/SG Kris Dunn, LAC at NYK (Preferred if Harden is out)

SG AJ Green, MIL at DEN (Boost if starting)

PG Tyler Kolek, NYK vs. LAC

Small Forwards/Power Forwards to Consider 🏀

SF/PF LeBron James, LAL | DK: $10.3k, FD: $9.4k | at IND

LeBron has been back for two games now after dealing with a groin injury that held him out for seven games. He hasn’t put up LeBron-like numbers in these two games, however, his first game back was a 31-point blowout loss to the Bulls where he played 31 minutes and his second game came against the Magic, who have been a perennially poor matchup for fantasy purposes. The good news is that he quickly ramped up to 38 minutes in that last game on Monday, so he doesn’t seem to be operating under any minute restrictions. With 11 games left on their schedule, the currently fifth-seeded Lakers will look to finish strong this season and they could realistically improve to as high as the second seed. Luka and LeBron do somewhat cannibalize one another’s upside when both are on the court, but there are always going to be stretches in a game where it’s just one or the other commanding the offense. As mentioned in the Haliburton spotlight, this game combined the highest total on the slate with the closest spread, so it’s a prime DFS environment to target. The $9,400 tag on FanDuel makes him more appealing there today, but you can never count LeBron out for a 60+ FP game so he should remain firmly on the radar on DraftKings as well.

SF/PF Kyle Kuzma, MIL | DK: $5.9k, FD: $5.9k | at DEN

Kyle Kuzma’s brief tenure with the Bucks hasn’t been overly remarkable, but he’s going to need to shoulder a heavy workload with Lillard and Giannis out of the picture tonight. With those two, plus Bobby Portis, off the floor, Kuzma has handled a +3.8% USG% increase, and his rebounding rate also sees a notable uptick. Kuzma had one of his better games as a Buck when these two teams last met on February 27th. Kuzma supplied a 16/9/5 stat line, with two blocks, across 37 minutes in that game, resulting in 38.75 DKFP/39.3 FDFP -- and that was with Giannis and Lillard in the lineup. The Nuggets have also ranked 28th versus starting power forwards L20Games. While a chalky Kyle Kuzma is always worrisome, he simply makes sense tonight at his $5,900 price point on both sites.

SF/SG Colby Jones, WAS | DK: $3.4k, FD: $3.8k | at PHI

The Wizards will be without several starters and role players tonight -- Bilal Coulibaly, Kyshawn George, Malcolm Brogdon, Marcus Smart, and Corey Kispert are all listed as out tonight. That frees up plenty of minutes for some of the bench guys like Colby Jones. Jones has only averaged 7.4 Min/gm across 30 games this season, but he has played at least 26 minutes in two of the Wizards’ last four games. His far and away best performance of the season came last Wednesday versus the Jazz where Jones dropped 24 points and 41.0 DKFP/41.3 FDFP in 26 minutes off of the bench. Jones is shooting 50% from the field, including 42.1% from three, this season, and, when given the minutes, he can provide some solid peripherals. It’s still a bit of a dart throw, and Jones is only SG eligible on FanDuel, but if you need a cheap flier, he should be a decent bet to return some value tonight.

Other Forwards to Consider

PF/C Kevin Durant, PHX vs. BOS

SF/PF Kawhi Leonard, LAC at NYK (Boost if Harden is out)

SF/PG Scottie Barnes, TOR at BKN

SF/PF Josh Hart, NYK vs. LAC

SF/PF OG Anunoby, NYK vs. LAC

PF Aaron Gordon, DEN vs. MIL (Currently questionable - Boost if Jokic/Porter are out)

SF/PF Justin Edwards, PHI vs. WAS

SF/PF Peyton Watson, DEN vs. MIL (Preferred if starting & some combo of Jokic/Porter/Gordon are out)

PF/C Trendon Watford, BKN vs. TOR

SF/PF Ryan Dunn, PHX vs. BOS

Centers to Consider 🏀

C Brook Lopez, MIL | DK: $6k, FD: $5.7k | at DEN

More Milwaukee targets, but it’d be a mild surprise if there aren’t a couple of Bucks’ players in the optimal lineup tonight. BroLo may be the most appealing option considering he’s a locked-in starter and has shown plenty of upside when Giannis and/or Lillard have been out in previous games this season. In just under 100 minutes with Giannis, Lillard, Portis, and Khris Middleton (traded) off the floor this season, Lopez has handled a +9.1% USG% increase and has averaged a team-leading +19.9 FP per 32 minutes. He’s coming off of a big game against the Suns on Monday where he played a whopping 42 minutes and supplied 46.0 DKFP/44.5 FDFP. Barring a blowout (which is a possibility if the Nuggets are at/near full strength), Lopez has a strong chance to return 6x (or better) value today.

C Tristan Vukcevic, WAS | DK: $4.3k, FD: $4.7k | at PHI

It’s often a gamble with Vukcevic since we never really know what sort of minutes he’ll receive. But, when he’s on the court, he has been highly productive while averaging 1.30 FPPM on the season. Vukcevic has received at least 21 minutes in four of the Wizards’ last five games. One of those games was a start against the Jazz last Wednesday, which coincided with Kyshawn George being out. In that game, Vukcevic posted a 17-point, five-rebound performance with two blocks, resulting in 27.75 DKFP/29.0 FDFP in just 21 minutes. George is out again tonight, along with several other Wizards’ players, so the current expectation is that Vukcevic will earn another spot start tonight. But whether he starts or plays off of the bench, he’ll be worth a strong look at these price points.

Other Centers to Consider

C Nikola Jokic, DEN vs. MIL (Currently questionable, may have restrictions if active)

C Karl-Anthony Towns, NYK vs. LAC

C Ivica Zubac, LAC at NYK

C Alexandre Sarr, WAS at PHI

C Deandre Jordan, DEN vs. MIL (Only if Jokic is out + Jordan starts again)

C Mitchell Robinson, NYK vs. LAC
