DFS Main Slate Rundown 📰

Depending on your preferred DFS site, you’ll be looking at a six-game (DraftKings) or eight-game (FanDuel) Thursday main slate! As is often the case, DraftKings is excluding the two latest games (HOU at UTA, POR at SAC) from their main slate action. Many people in the DFS realm are placing their focus on MLB Opening Day contests, but there is still money to be made in NBA DFS! However, being a huge baseball fan, I am very anxious to catch some of the Opening Day action, so today’s newsletter may end up being a bit more concise than usual. I’m not going to half-ass anything, but Opening Day is like a child’s Christmas morning to me! Anyhow, let’s get into it, shall we? Best of luck!

Main Slate Match-Ups w/ Game Totals & Point Spreads

Top DraftKings & FanDuel DFS Plays

Note: NBA position designations are never going to perfectly align between the major DFS sites. For the purposes of these newsletters, positional designations will default to DraftKings.

Point Guards/Shooting Guards to Consider 🏀

PG Tyrese Haliburton, IND | DK: $8.7k, FD: $9.2k | at WAS

Tough loss for the Pacers last night on the LeBron buzzer-beater tip-in, but Haliburton turned in yet another strong points/assists double-double, making it his 12th in a row. He is now averaging 18.8 PPG, 13.2 APG, 2.4 STL+BLK/gm, and 1.59 FPPM over his L5Games. Indiana is on the second leg of a B2B, but so are the woeful Wizards, who always provide a plus matchup for their opponents given their 28th-ranked defense and 4th-fastest pace of play. Haliburton also didn’t log massive minutes last night (32), so he shouldn’t be too fatigued heading into this one.

PG/SG Dyson Daniels, ATL | DK: $7.1k, FD: $8k | at MIA

Daniels has been playing some great ball lately, most recently flirting with triple-double status against the Rockets on Tuesday where he came away with a 19/8/10 stat line, which included four steals, and netted 54.0 DKFP/53.6 FDFP. Daniels continues to lead the NBA, by a wide margin, with 3.1 steals per game. He should be in line for another solid night in a game versus the Heat which owns the closest spread on the slate (ATL +2).

PG Anthony Black, ORL | DK: $4k, FD: $4.9k | vs. DAL

With Cole Anthony (toe/doubtful) expected to miss another game, it is tough not to like Anthony Black for value. While Black has not appeared in the starting lineup, he has been handling the most minutes at point guard for the Magic lately, and he has been fairly productive in those increased minutes. Spanning his L5Games, Black has posted 14.8 PPG, 4.6 RPG, 3.4 APG, and 2.0 STL+BLK/gm while averaging 1.13 FPPM and 29.5 DKFP/29.2 FDFP across 26.0 Min/gm. He garners a strong individual matchup versus the Mavs, who have ranked 28th versus backup PGs L10Games.

Other Guards to Consider

PG Luka Doncic, LAL at CHI

PG Josh Giddey, CHI vs. LAL (Currently questionable)

SG/SF Coby White, CHI vs. LAL (Boost if Giddey and/or Vucevic are out)

PG Tyler Herro, MIA vs. ATL

PG Scotty Pippen Jr., MEM at OKC

PG Ty Jerome, CLE vs. SAS (Currently questionable)

PG Davion Mitchell, MIA vs. ATL

SG Sam Merrill, CLE vs. SAS (Boost if Jerome is out)

FanDuel Main Slate Only

SG Jalen Green, HOU at UTA (Boost if Thompson is out)

PG Fred VanVleet, HOU at UTA (Boost if Thompson is out)

SG/SF Shaedon Sharpe, POR at SAC (Boost if Camara is out)

SG/SF Dillon Brooks, HOU at UTA (Preferred if Thompson is out)

Small Forwards/Power Forwards to Consider 🏀

PF Paolo Banchero, ORL | DK: $9.9k, FD: $9.8k | vs. DAL

Banchero’s salaries continue to creep up but he has been very consistent of late, scoring at least 48.5 DKFP/46.7 FDFP in six of his last seven games. This is a significant pace-up spot for the Magic as the Mavs have ranked 3rd in pace over their last five games, and they’ve ranked 27th versus starting power forwards in that same span.

SF/PF Andrew Wiggins, MIA | DK: $6.6k, FD: $7.2k | vs. ATL

Wiggins is settling into a nice groove in Miami and, after averaging a so-so 1.03 FPPM on the season, he’s up to 1.22 FPPM over his L5Games. The massive 61.25 DKFP/60.1 FDFP performance against the Hornets on Sunday, where he dropped 42 points, is buoying that FPPM figure quite a bit. However, excluding the recent game against Memphis where he was limited to just 22 minutes due to injury, Wiggins has gone for at least 33.75 DKFP/36.5 FDFP in his last five “healthy” games. He’ll land in a nice pace-up spot versus the Hawks, who have also allowed the 7th most FPPG to SF starters L20Games.

SF/SG Alex Caruso, OKC | DK: $3.9k, FD: $5k | vs. MEM

There is not much standout value at forward at the time of this writing but Caruso will be an interesting cheap option, particularly if both Jalen Williams (hip/questionable) and Cason Wallace (knee/questionable) are out again. Caruso has seen an uptick in minutes in the last two games, and drew a spot start on Sunday, which resulted in back-to-back games of at least 33.5 DKFP/33.7 FDFP. Caruso has been right around an FPPM this season and this game versus the Grizzlies has the highest combined pace and highest total on the slate. So, if he can play into mid-20s minutes, he’s a strong bet for value, particularly at his $3,900 price tag on DraftKings.

Other Forwards to Consider

SF/SG Franz Wagner, ORL vs. DAL

PF/C Bam Adebayo, MIA vs. ATL

PF/C Chet Holmgren, OKC vs. MEM (Boost if Jal. Williams remains out)

PF/C Santi Aldama, MEM at OKC

SF/PF De’Andre Hunter, CLE vs. SAS (Preferred if starting)

PF Matas Buzelis, CHI vs. LAL (Boost if Giddey and/or Vucevic are out)

SF/SG Julian Champagnie, SAS at CLE

SF/SG Dalen Terry, CHI vs. LAL

FanDuel Main Slate Only

SF/PF Deni Avdija, POR at SAC

SF Johnny Juzang, UTA vs. HOU

SF Matisse Thybulle, POR at SAC (Boost if Camara is out)

Centers to Consider 🏀

C Kel’el Ware, MIA | DK: $5.6k, FD: $6.1k | vs. ATL

Ware continues to trend upward and now has averaged 1.13 FPPM and 36.2 DKFP/35.5 FDFP over his last five games as a starter. A couple of decisive wins over the Warriors and Hornets could be to blame for Ware playing 28 minutes in each of his last two games, but in a more competitive game script, as this one is expected to be with its narrow two-point spread, Ware could be able to crack back into mid-30s minutes. The Hawks have been pretty tough against centers lately but the sizable pace-up boost they provide for Miami may be enough to make up for a lackluster matchup.

C Tristan Vukcevic, WAS | DK: $4.2k, FD: $5.4k | vs. IND

We’ll keep hoping that the Wizards give Vukcevic those low/mid-20s minutes as he just keeps providing value when given the chance. He is now up to a stout 1.40 FPPM L5Games and the continued absence of Kyshawn George should help secure Vukcevic’s playing time. In three of his last four games where he has received at least 23 minutes off the bench, Vuk has posted no fewer than 33.0 DKFP/35.2 FDFP. The $5,400 salary on FanDuel makes him a tad risky, but he should easily return value at $4,200 on DraftKings as long as the minutes are there.

Other Centers to Consider

C Onyeka Okongwu, ATL at MIA

C Jarrett Allen, CLE vs. SAS

C Myles Turner, IND at WAS

C Alexandre Sarr, WAS vs. IND

FanDuel Main Slate Only

C Alperen Sengun, HOU at UTA

C/PF Domantas Sabonis, SAC vs. POR

C Donovan Clingan, POR at SAC
