Top NBA Plays 1/11 | Up is Down, Left is Right
It's been a wild week in the NBA that was epitomized last night by the Heat upsetting the Celtics and the Spurs beating the Thunder in 2OT despite playing in part two of a back-to-back. At this rate, the Bulls are going to beat the Warriors tonight while the Cavs take down Houston. That's OK though, we love parity in the daily fantasy sports world. That being said, let's see what this Freaky Friday has in store with a 9-game card.
Tonight's Headline Games
The Washington Wizards were able to upset Philadelphia on Wednesday in a back-to-back. Can they repeat the feat again vs. the Milwaukee Bucks (-6)? When these two teams met up last February, Giannis Antetokounmpo ($11,300) went for 23 points, grabbed 13 rebounds, and dished out 8 assists.
Does Victor Oladipo ($8,200) explode tonight at Madison Square Garden as the Indiana Pacers (-8.5) take on the New York Knicks? Oladipo had 26/8/7 when the teams met up a month ago in Indiana.
Can Andrew Wiggins ($6,800) repeat his 40 point scoring night from Tuesday night? The Minnesota Timberwolves (-5) are well rested vs. a Dallas Mavericks team that is 3-13 on the road.
Klay Thompson ($7,200) likes his matchup when the Golden State Warriors (-15.5) host the Chicago Bulls. At the end of October back at the United Center, Thompson shot 14-24 from three point range alone en route to 52 points - in 26 minutes.
Guards
Jordan Clarkson (DK: $5,700, FD: $6,000 Y! $20)
If they're going to keep giving away Jordan Clarkson, it's wise to keep taking him. The Cavs lost by 16 on Wednesday in New Orleans and in the process, Clarkson had 21 points in 29 minutes. It was his third straight 20+ point scoring game. Cleveland is another blowout spot Friday as +13.5 underdogs in Houston, meaning Clarkson should get a lot of court time again. The Rockets are 25th vs. the SG over the last five games and Clarkson had 20/5/4 against them in mid-November.
Gerald Green (DK: $4,200 FD: $4,300 Y! $11)
Sticking with the Rockets/Cavs game, if Houston doesn't need a whole lot from James Harden to get the win, it should open up plenty of time for Gerald Green. Well, good luck getting Harden off the court at any time but at least Green can get minutes at both guard and forward. Green logged 32 minutes last time out vs. Milwaukee and has now scored in double figures in five straight games.
Cory Joseph (DK: $3,400 FD: $3,900 Y! $10)
The Pacers are big road favorites at Madison Square Garden vs. the Knicks. That could open up some huge minutes for backup PG Cory Joseph. He could see extended time win or lose as Darren Collison is questionable for Indiana on Friday with a sore right leg. Collison has played through the injury the past couple games but the Pacers have 3 nights off after this and a winnable game, so he probably should sit. New York is ranked 30th in opposing field goal percentage and 23rd in scoring defense and Indiana's implied points are 113 for tonight.
Forwards
Kyle Kuzma (DK: $7,200, FD; $7,300 Y! $30 )
This play might seem like chasing, after Kyle Kuzma erupted for 41 points in 29 minutes Wednesday. The truth is, until LeBron James returns, the Lakers offense runs through Kuzma. The former Utah Ute plays in Salt Lake City on Friday and the Jazz are also 30th defensively vs. the PF position over the last 5 games.
Bobby Portis (DK: $4,600, FD: $5,400 Y! $20 )
A West Coast game vs. the marquee Warriors has all the recipes for a Bobby Portis breakout game, especially as the Bulls are +15.5 point underdogs. In the last two games, Portis has scored 15 points in 19 minutes vs. Portland and 17 points in 20 minutes vs. Brooklyn. That's solid production considering Portis missed the 7 games prior with an ankle injury. The Warriors are 22nd vs. the PF and they should have a lot of bench minutes to dish out tonight.
Nicolas Batum (DK: $4,800 FD: $5,300 Y! $16)
There are definitely worse options out there for $4,800 than Nicolas Batum. The Hornets G/F probably isn't going to win you any tournaments, but he is a nice solid performer. He logs a ton of minutes (34+ in 4 of 5) and does enough besides scoring to be a quality play. Last time out, for example, Batum tallied 26 fantasy points while making just 1 FG. The Hornets are at Portland tonight and the Trail Blazers are 30th defensively vs. the SF position, which does improve Batum's value.
Centers
Ian Mahinmi (DK: $3,700 FD: $4,700 Y! $11)
Milwaukee is very solid vs. the C on their first unit but their bench does struggle on the blocks. That could mean a solid night for Wizards backup C Ian Mahinmi who has been surging upwards lately. The Bucks allow almost 20 fantasy ppg to C reserves and Mahinmi should have a big night on the boards, as he's grabbed 7+ in three straight games. The Bucks should also be in line for a big win so that means minutes are going to be available for Mahinmi.
Ed Davis ( DK: $4,000, FD: $4,700 Y! $10)
Ed Davis has been dominating on the boards lately, including a 16 rebound performance vs. Atlanta on Wednesday. Brooklyn is nearly a 10 point underdog traveling to Toronto on Friday, so Davis should see plenty of minutes behind Jarrett Allen. The Raptors give up 5.4 reb/game but Davis should at least double that if he gets the minutes. A couple buckets wouldn't hurt either.
There are a lot of options out there for Friday night's NBA slate.
