Top NBA Plays 11/23 | Curing the Turkey Hangover
Get out the Prisolec OTC and digest the rest of that Turkey from yesterday because the NBA has given us 14 games on this wondrous Black Friday. This is Carl Taylor (@dailydogsports) once again filling in for Greg but don't worry, he'll be back soon enough. Action tips off right away with a 12:00 PM ET game between the Timberwolves and Nets, so let's not waste any more time and get right into the action.
Games that Stand Out Early
The two afternoon games today are Minnesota/Brooklyn and the Grizzlies vs. the Clippers (3:30 ET). Much like an MLB DFS schedule, the day games aren't included in today's NBA main slate. That still leaves 12 games to find hidden and not-so-hidden gems in however. The entire league had yesterday off to enjoy yams and cranberry sauce so everybody should be fresh and ready to roll tonight.
Philadelphia (-13) should put up big numbers against the Cavs tonight. Cleveland hung tight in a 105-109 loss to Lebron James and the Lakers Wednesday but still boast the league's worst defense in terms of efficiency.
Toronto (-10.5) is fresh after a day off and is back home after a 4 game road swing. It will be a big night for Raptors players vs. a Wizards team that has embodied the scandal and controversy that Washington DC has become so famous for.
Portland plays their 6th straight road game tonight but is still just +2 underdogs at Golden State. The Trailblazers gave up 143 points to Milwaukee on Wednesday so will the Warriors, although banged up, put up similar offensive numbers?
Speaking of the Bucks, they host the Suns who are 0-8 on the road this season. Who besides Giannis is going to help Milwaukee cover the -13.5 spread?
Guards
John Wall (DK: $8,700, FD: $9,000 Y! $37)
This seems about right – talk about all the controversy going on with the Wizards then recommend a Washington player directly off the bat. The truth is if Washington indeed does get blown out tonight by Toronto then at least it should be a big night for John Wall. It might be a productive evening anyways, as Wall is coming off a 30-point, 8 AST night vs. the Clippers. He logged 40 minutes that night and if coach Scott Brooks is overusing Wall as a way to punish him...then we'll take it.
JJ Redick (DK: $5,200 FD: $5,500 Y! $18)
There's a lot going right for Philly right now. They are 10-0 at home, riding a 4-game win streak, and host the 2-14 Cavs tonight. Expect a big night from Joel Embiid who has gone for 30+ in three straight but how about JJ Redick stepping up for the value? On paper, that might not seem likely as Redick has just one 20+ point game in his last 4 outings but that's what the first part is for in risk/reward. Plus the opponent is Cleveland who is giving up 31.5 FPPG to SG starters which includes 3.6 AST. Redick usually doesn't offer much beyond points but last April he did score 28 against albeit, a very different Cavs team.
Donovan Mitchell (DK: $7,400 FD: $7,600 Y! 27)
If you don't like the reach of Redick, then Donovan Mitchell is a much more sure thing play tonight. Utah is at the Lakers tonight and you know Mitchell wants to light things up in front of the stars. When Mitchell played in LA last April he scored 28 points, grabbed 9 boards and dished out 8 assists. The Lakers give up 37.2 FPPG to SG starters and Mitchell is hot after dropping 35 points vs. the Kings last time out.
Forwards
Thaddeus Young (DK: $4,000 FD: $4,900 Y! $15)
Thad should be rad tonight in a matchup that would've been a tough spot years ago vs. the Spurs. The truth is San Antonio allows 28.5 FPPG to PF starters. Indiana is actually a -3.5 favorite in tonight's contest as they put their 6-3 home record on the line. There's no reason to think Thaddeus Young shouldn't have a big evening as the Spurs allowed 20 points and 10 boards to Marc Gasol last time out. Young's point totals have increased each of the last three games to 11, 12, and 16 and if he can add some improved rebounding totals tonight, there's great value in this play. The Spurs are giving up 7.1 REB/game to PF starters.
Tim Hardaway, Jr. (DK: $7,200 FD: $7,400 Y! $26)
Tim Hardaway is quickly becoming a must-play every night. The Knicks F is logging crazy minutes (35+ in four straight games) and has produced in that time. He's got three 30+ point nights over that span and has two 5+ REB nights as well as two 4+ AST games in the last four. A week ago against the Pelicans, Hardaway went for 30 points and 8 REB which was good for a 47.5 DFS total. The Knicks are +7.5 home dogs vs. New Orleans tonight but have covered the number in 3 of their last 4. If they do that again tonight, expect a lot of action from Timmy Jr.
Khris Middleton (DK: $7,200 FD: $7,200 Y! $28)
If opposing teams are employing the “we'll stop everybody else and make Antetokounmpo beat us” strategy then, well...it's not working. The Bucks are huge favorites tonight vs. the Suns so can somebody, anybody step up in this blowout besides the Greek Freak? One of the better bets to do just that is Khris Middleton. The Bucks are 9-1 at home and the Suns are giving up 5.3 FG and 5 REB per game to SF starters. Middleton had a solid 21 point, 7 REB, 4 AST night last game and he's scored 20+ in 4 of the last 5. Last January, the Bucks SF dropped 35 points on these Suns, so there are some positive matchups here.
Centers
Nikola Vucevic (DK: $8,100 FD: $9,000 Y! $34)
If you want to save a couple thousand dollars from Joel Embiid and Anthony Davis tonight, then one of the better top tier options for value is Nikola Vucevic. On paper, he might not have the best matchup against Denver's 7'0 C Nikola Jokic but in the last meeting last December vs. the Nuggets, Vucevic had 21 points and 17 rebounds. Yes, technically Jokic didn't play in that game but Vucevic should still be able to have a big night. Denver is giving up 6.4 FG/game to opposing C starters and Vucevic's production goes up 14% when he's well rested. The Magic big man has scored 28+ in 3 of the last 4 and has double digit boards in 6 of the last 7.
DeAndre Ayton (DK: $6,400 FD: $6,800 Y! $23)
At the very least, the youngster should get some garbage buckets as the Suns are whopping 14 point underdogs tonight vs. Milwaukee. That being said, DeAndre Ayton has also been playing well lately. He's coming off an 18 point, 12 rebound night vs. the Bulls in which he also posted his second highest assist total of the season with 5. Milwaukee is giving up 6.2 FG/game to opposing C starters and Ayton should be able to be physically imposing down low vs. the Bucks' Brook Lopez.
Bam Adebayo (DK: $3,800 FD: $3,900 Y! $10)
It's Black Friday which means today is all about deals. While everybody is trampling each other for a $200 55” 4K TV (Embiid, Hassan Whiteside, Anthony Davis) we've got poor Bam Adebayo sitting here all lonely. This is a value play vs. the Bulls tonight as Chicago is 25th in the league in defensive efficiency and isn't particularly strong on the blocks with Jabari Parker down there. Chicago is giving up 24.4 FPPG to C reserves alone which includes 5.8 rebounds. Adebayo had 8 boards in just 16 minutes last game for the second straight time. If Whiteside gets in foul trouble (maybe?) and Adebayo's usage increases, he could be the steal of the night. At the very least, taking a chance here will allow you to spend more elsewhere.
It's been a hectic holiday week but hopefully everybody has found some nice DFS success along the way. There's a lot of great football on tomorrow (and today) but don't forget about a solid 7 game NBA Saturday as well.
