Top NBA Plays 11/28 | A Night for Blowouts?
There's a 10-pack of games on the NBA docket tonight but don't expect a whole lot of nail biting in those contests. That's because five of the games feature point spreads of a dozen or more. Three other games see a team favored by at least 6.5 points, so although there might not be buzzer beaters tonight, that should still lend itself to some big DFS games. The great thing about blowout games is that sometimes it's the team getting destroyed that has the big nights as they compile garbage bucket after garbage bucket. It's also national French toast day today so is whoever Tony Parker is guarding a solid DFS play? This is Carl Taylor (@dailydogsports) a known creepy guy, wait make that crepe guy, guiding you through today's slate:
Games that Stand Out at First Glance
The Atlanta Hawks earned a solid 115-113 win over the Miami Heat last night as +7.5 underdogs but they have a quick turnaround at the Charlotte Hornets tonight. It could be a big DFS night for Hornets players as they are -12 point favorites Wednesday.
The New York Knicks gave up 115 points in a loss to the Detroit Pistons last night and they too are in action tonight vs. the Philadelphia 76ers. Philly is favored by a dozen vs. the Knicks, so expect a very high price on Joel Embiid, Jimmy Butler, and other Sixers players.
The Houston Rockets have dropped three straight games on the road but they're back home against the Dallas Mavericks tonight as -6.5 favorites. James Harden and Eric Gordon combined for 90 points in their last contest but it still wasn't enough for a win, but the Mavs are just 1-7 on the road this year.
It could also be a big DFS night for the LA Clippers players as they are -12 point favorites vs. the Phoenix Suns. The Suns lost 109-104 to the Pacers last night and the Clippers are 8-1 at home. Phoenix is also 1-9 on the road.
There are a lot of big spreads to exploit tonight, with the closest game being the Brooklyn Nets giving 3 points at home vs. the Utah Jazz. We'll see if the oddsmakers were on point with these tallies when checking in tomorrow. On to the DFS angles:
Guards
James Harden (DK: $11,600, FD: $11,600 Y!: $54)
I don't think it's a bad idea to spend for James Harden tonight. For one, ownership might be a bit lower because who really thinks he's going to duplicate his 54 point night against Washington on Monday? There's good value on Harden with other high priced players such as Giannis Antetokounmpo, Anthony Davis, and Russell Westbrook also in action this evening. The Beard might not score 54, but he should go off for another big night vs. Dallas. The Mavericks have won 6 of 7 and should keep tonight's game close – which is good for Harden. The Mavs also give up 30.7 FPPG to SG starters and allowed 35 points to the combination of Marcus Smart and Jaylen Brown in their last game. Harden has gone for 33+ in five straight games with three games over the 40 point barrier in that span. He's an all around DFS scorer though, with a combined 26 assists and 12 rebounds the last two games.
Emmanuel Mudiay (DK: $4,700 FD: $5,700 Y!: $13)
After you go big on spending, you don't have to go home – but you do have to find some value. Emmanuel Mudiay is worth a play tonight, as his ownership is just 3% as the Knicks are playing in leg two of a back-to-back. He's in one of those reverse-garbage-time-blowout-point games that we still have to figure out a name for as New York is a 12 point dog at Philadelphia tonight. Mudiay had just 9 points, 2 assists, and 2 rebounds last night but he also logged just 22 minutes, so he's one of the fresher Knicks on the B2B. The New York PG averaged 22ppg the two contests prior and he also went for 22 vs. Philadelphia last March. The Sixers give up 38.9 FPPG to PG starters and tonight should be a fast paced game (O/U 227) which favors Mudiay's playing style.
Jeremy Lamb (DK: $6,400 FD: $6,600 Y!: 21)
Jeremy Lamb is another solid play for the value tonight. In their last four home games, the Hornets have beat Milwaukee, Indiana, and Boston while losing by 3 in OT to Philadelphia. Charlotte is 7-3 at home and hosts Atlanta who is on part two of a B2B today. If the Hornets get another solid W (as 12 point favorites) Lamb should have great productivity. He's gone for 20+ in 4 of 7 games but also puts up great rebounding numbers for a guard, with 6+ in 8 of the last 9 games. Lamb is also a side dish, as he's averaging over 3 assists/game his last four. Couple that with the fact the Hawks allow 32.2 FPPG to SG starters and Lamb becomes even more appealing.
Forwards
Markieff Morris (DK: $5,100 FD: $6,500 Y! $16)
Does Markieff Morris have another big night in him? For the price, he's definitely worth a value play. Dwight Howard is out again tonight resting a sore butt and in his absence, Morris has thrived. He's coming off a 22 point, 11 rebound night vs. the Rockets where he logged 40 minutes. Morris had 15 and 9 the game before in just 27 minutes vs. the Hornets, Washington's opponent tonight. The Pelicans give up 17 FPPG to SF reserves alone and Morris should get starters minutes at SF, PF, and C tonight.
Jabari Parker (DK: $6,600 FD: $7,400 Y! $26)
Jabari Parker is up against his former team, the Milwaukee Bucks, tonight and he went for 21 points and 8 boards when the teams met up on November 16th. The Bucks are huge 14 point favorites tonight, which could mean a lot of easy trash buckets for Parker. The Bulls PF is coming off an 18 and 10 performance Monday vs. San Antonio and went for 27 vs. the Timberwolves the game before. Parker has three 20+ games in his last four and has also grabbed double digits in boards in three of those games. The Bucks have allowed 110+ in three straight games and the O/U of 228 also favors a big night for Parker, whose production is up 31% in up-paced games.
Luka Doncic (DK: $7,400 FD: $7,800 Y! $31)
Ownership is down on Luka Doncic tonight because a) he's a GTD with an illness and b) because Houston is allowing just 23.8 FPPG to opposing SF starters. In that regard Doncic could be a nice contrarian / value play today vs. the Rockets. For one, Dallas should put up some points as Houston has allowed 116+ in four straight games. The Mavs haven't played since Saturday when they beat the Celtics while the Rockets were in an OT game vs. Washington on Monday. Obviously it's important to see if Doncic is healthy, but if he goes, he's tallied 15+ in four straight games and also has either an 8+ assist or rebound numbers in each of those contests.
Centers
Jarrett Allen (DK: $5,500 FD: $6,300 Y! $20)
The Nets are +3 home underdogs vs. a Jazz team that the Pacers destroyed by 33 points their last game at Utah on Monday. The Jazz have now allowed 110+ points in 6 of their last 8 games and now must go back out East to face Brooklyn for Utah's 3rd game in 4 nights. Donovan Mitchell should be back in the lineup for Utah after missing the last two games but that doesn't mean the Nets' Jarrett Allen isn't going to have a big game. The Brooklyn C is coming off a 17 point, 10 rebound night vs. Joel Embiid and Philadelphia. That contest was Sunday and the Nets not only have two nights off before this evening's game but have also played their last two at home. Allen's production goes up to 37.56 FPPG when well rested (+41%) and the Jazz give up 34.2 FPPG to opposing C. Utah's Rudy Gobert has logged two 33+ minute games over the past week and will be fatigued tonight.
Richaun Holmes (DK $3,400 FD: $4,300 Y! $10)
A solid VPWP (value play with potential) tonight is Richaun Holmes of the Suns. Phoenix is playing in leg 2 of a back-to-back and Deandre Ayton (30:38) and TJ Warren (38:39) both had high usage last night for the Suns front court. That should open up more playing time for Holmes tonight. He's been productive when in the lineup lately, scoring 10 points and grabbing 6 boards in 15 minutes vs. Detroit and logging 14 points and 6 rebounds in 15 minutes four games ago vs. Chicago. The Clippers are -12 favorites tonight which should open up Holmes' usage even more. Not only that, LA allows 20 FPPG to PF reserves and 5 REB/Game.
Deandre Jordan (DK $7,100 FD: $8,000 Y! $27)
I've stacked a lot of value picks for tonight, so there should be budget left for one of the premier Centers like Davis, Embiid, or Towns and they almost always produce. If you want bang for the buck however, Deandre Jordan offers great ROI as just the 11th highest priced C on DraftKings. DJ's offensive numbers should improve slightly if Luka Doncic sits out tonight with an illness but perhaps best of all is that the 7-footer is well rested, as the Mavericks haven't played since Saturday. Houston's C Clint Capela, meanwhile, logged 37 minutes Monday vs. Washington and 39 vs. Cleveland on Saturday – both road games. Jordan has a double-double in four straight games and Houston gives up 34 FPPG to opposing C.
As any NBA fan or gambler knows, large point spreads by no means guarantee easy victories. If last week was Black Friday, could tonight be Red Wednesday for bettors and DFS players? To quote Gloria Gaynor, we will survive, and when we do, there's a tiny little 3-game slate to get to know intimately for Thursday.
