Top NBA Plays 1/15 | Avoiding "That One Guy"

We've all been to a party or a wedding reception that is going great until "that one guy" shows up. The same thing goes for a DFS lineup. All the research, analysis, and trends can be ruined by "that one guy" who gets a 12 fp night when he's projected for 46. Let's try to avoid that dude as we dive into tonight's big 10-game NBA shindig.

Tonight's DFS Headlines

Pistons @ Celtics

Jayson Tatum (knee) sits for Boston tonight, who are -9 point favorites at home and could be in the ๐Ÿ’ฃBlowout Game๐Ÿ’ฃ spot.

Nets @ 76ers

Watch who sits and who goes for the Nets tonight, as they are nearing full strength from injuries but also playing on the back-to-back after a loss to Utah last night.

Spurs @ Heat

The Heat have gone 17-1 at home this season but may have a tougher test than expected vs. a San Antonio team that has scored 120+ in 3 of 4. The betting total of 220 reflects that.

Wizards @ Bulls

Speaking of high betting totals, Washington @ Chicago is a great target with an O/U of 230.

Pacers @ Timberwolves

Minnesota has allowed 119, 139, and 117 in 3 of their last 4 and are just 6-12 at home this season. Indiana gets a nice pace boost here.

Raptors @ Thunder

Oddsmakers are expecting a fight from Toronto, as OKC is just a -1.5 favorite tonight. The Raptors are getting healthier, but are still without Fred VanVleet and Marc Gasol, meaning this could be a trap game.

Hornets @ Nuggets

Do Nuggets players get their value early in a possible ๐Ÿ’ฃBlowout Game ๐Ÿ’ฃspot as 12 point favorites over Charlotte? Gary Harris (abdominal) and Jamal Murray (back) might not even give it a go for Denver.

Trail Blazers @ Rockets

Houston is in the back-to-back after playing Memphis last night but Russell Westbrook returns after sitting for scheduled rest. A good game to target with a betting total of 236.

Mavericks @ Kings

Dallas is on the back-to-back, but had an easy go of it last night vs. Golden State and should have full usage available. The Mavs are expected to welcome back Kristaps Porzingis.

Magic @ Lakers

A defensive matchup is expected at Staples with an O/U of just 212.5. A very tough game to target with the Lakers 10 point favorites.

Guards

CJ McCollum DK $6.8k | FD $7.3k

Westbrook is back to shut down Damian Lillard ($9k) tonight, which should mean free reign for CJ McCollum vs. a Houston team playing on leg two of the back-to-back. The Rockets rank 26th in the league vs. the SG position - and that's when fresh. Dillon Brooks dropped 24 real points vs. Houston last night and McCollum is coming off one of his best shooting nights in a while, going 11-22 vs. Charlotte on Monday.

SG's vs. Houston is a 'yes' especially when the Rockets are on 0 days rest.

Goran Dragic DK $5.5k | FD $4.6k

It's either Goran Dragic or Kendrick Nunn ($5.5k) matching up vs. San Antonio's #26 defense vs. the PG position. Dragic gives a bit more of an upside with his 11-17 shooting night with 13 assists in his last home game. Dragic definitely has potential to be "that one guy," as he had 12 fp last game but the pace boost vs. San Antonio also helps his cause.

Miami gets the best pace boost of the night which never hurts.

Josh Richardson DK $6.4k | FD $5.7k

Joel Embiid continues to sit for Philadelphia which gives Josh Richardson a slight boost. Even so, at under $6k on FD, Richardson becomes a play vs. Brooklyn's defense that is on the back-to-back and just gave up 40+ fp to Joe Ingles last night. Richardson has 23+ real points in 3 of the last 4.

Richardson has hit 6X this price in 4 of 6 and has a great matchup with a tired Nets squad.

๐Ÿ€๐Ÿ‘ Other Likes  / Dislikes ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ€

Zach Lavine ($9.3k) has hit 30+ real points in 3 of the last 4 and has a great matchup with Washington's defense tonight.

Forwards

Davis Bertans DK $5.5k | FD $5k

Bigs vs. Chicago are great anyway and Davis Bertans isn't your typical 'big.' The betting total in the Wizards / Bulls matchup is 230, making it a great game to target. Bertans has had 14 and 18 real points since returning from a quad injury and has gone 7-15 from three point range. Chicago ranks dead last defensively vs. the PF position and has an injury report the size of an Ernest Hemingway novel.

Just tell us who is playing for Chicago tonight.

T.J. Warren DK $5.8k | FD $5.5k

So much upside on TJ Warren but so many disappointing nights too. Warren has the ceiling of a 50fp night which he hit on January 6th vs. Charlotte and tonight could be on the high side, as Minnesota is just 6-12 at home. The T'Wolves have allowed 139 and 117 points the last two and Indiana gets a nice pace boost in this one.

We never know when the Warren Big Nights are coming.

Tim Hardaway, Jr. DK $5.2k | FD $4.9k

Kristaps Porzingis ($7.4k) is priced pretty high for his first game back but Tim Hardaway, Jr. could have the real value tonight. Hardaway played just 24 minutes last night vs. the Warriors and should be fresh vs. a Kings team that has given up 35+ to 3 of the past 5 SFs they've faced and also rank in the bottom half vs. the SF spot. Ownership should be down on Hardaway with the Unicorn back, but expect Porzingis to be on a minutes restriction.

๐Ÿ€๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ Other Likes / Dislikes ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ€

Anybody taking Jaylen Brown ($6.5k) tonight with Tatum out of the lineup for Boston? He's only gotten above 23fp once in the last 4 but has upside vs. Detroit.

There's a dare going around Twitter today to take P.J. Tucker ($4.2k) after playing 38 minutes last night. That usually means a 9X night is coming.

Center

Nikola Jokic DK $10.1k | FD $9.7k

Nikola Jokic is a heartbreaker (DFS wise) but "bigs against Charlotte" is still a thing even though Hassan Whiteside had 7 points and 11 rebounds vs. the Hornets last time out. Jokic hasn't had a triple-double since December 28th and has only had 3-double digit rebounds in the last 8 games. That should keep ownership down vs. a Hornets team that is 30th vs. the C.

People aren't liking the price or the potential blowout for Jokic tonight.

๐Ÿ€๐Ÿ‘ Other Likes / Dislikes ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ€

It's time for Al Horford ($6.7k) to step up vs. a 40+ fp to 4 of the last 5 C's they've faced.

Nikola Vucevic ($8.5k) has a 44 point floor the past six games but has a tough matchup on paper vs. the Lakers tonight.
