Top NBA Plays 1/16 | History Repeats Itself?

Congratulations if you survived last night's historical NBA docket. Besides the Lakers 7 point win over the Bulls, the next closest margin of victory was Atlanta's 16 point victory over OKC. The other four games on the slate were decided by 30 points or more. The 28 point average margin of victory was the highest in league history. Interestingly enough, the perfect DFS lineup was actually 30 total points lower than it was Monday, meaning the benches empty in lopsided affairs like this. Tonight's card of games looks to be a bit closer..on paper anyway.

Tonight's Headline Games

Where does the James Harden ($13,000) price tag eventually top out? His Houston Rockets are in action again Wednesday vs. the upstart Brooklyn Nets. Brooklyn landed three players in the perfect lineup on Monday.

The Boston Celtics have dropped three in a row and have fallen to 5th in the East. Nonetheless, the C's are -1.5 favorites at home vs. the Toronto Raptors. Kyrie Irving ($8,600) scored 43 when the teams met in early November.

Last night's high scoring games have effected at least one O/U. The New Orleans Pelicans / Golden State Warriors (-7) total is listed at a whopping 240.5.

Are the Portland Trail Blazers tonight's blowout play? They are -13.5 favorites at home vs. the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Guards

Derrick White (DK: $5,800, FD: $6,100 Y! $19)

Derrick White of the Spurs has a very favorable matchup vs. the Mavs, who are 27th vs. the PG over the last 5 games. Rudy Gay is probable tonight which could cut into White's minutes. Otherwise, he had posted four nights of 30+ minutes in the five games Gay has missed. Even so, White's production and the matchup should have earned him court time. In the last three games, White has a 23 and an 18 point scoring night and has had at least 4 rebounds and 4 assists in each contest. The Mavs are giving up 36.9 fppg to PG starters.

Seth Curry (DK: $3,200 FD: $3,6,000 Y! $10)

If you're going to spend on James Harden tonight, be prepared to go value shopping for the rest of your roster. Somebody who could see an uptick in playing time Wednesday is Seth Curry as the Trail Blazers host the Cavs. Cleveland is 4-18 on the road and this would be a good night for Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum to get some rest. Portland just finished up a two game road trip and will be playing their 3rd game in 4 nights, which opens up more time for Curry.

You have to squint, but there's some upside to be seen on Curry (Seth) tonight

Sterling Brown (DK: $3,300 FD: $3,700 Y! $10)

Does Sterling Brown see much court time Wednesday? The Bucks probably aren't going to beat Memphis by 38 points like they did the Heat last night but Milwaukee should still expand their rotation playing in the B2B. Brown is mostly a scorer, with 4 double digit games in his last 6. He provides fantasy upside because he had 6 assists last night vs. the Heat and 7 rebounds two games prior vs. the Wizards. The Grizzlies are a bit thin too with Dillon Brooks being lost for the year and elite defender Kyle Anderson out for a month with an ankle injury.

Forwards

Aaron Gordon (DK: $7,000, FD; $7,500 Y! $27 )

There's probably a little bit of a downturn coming for Aaron Gordon tonight...but is there? The Magic F has posted back-to-back 43+ point fantasy nights vs. Boston and Houston - in consecutive nights. That output came at home, but Orlando is in Detroit Wednesday. Even so, it's still a favorable matchup for Gordon as the Pistons are 27th defensively vs. the PF position. Gordon has at least 13 field goal attempts the past five games and he has four 8+ rebound nights over that span.

Can Gordon continue his hot streak in tonight's road tilt?

Gordon Hayward (DK: $5,200, FD: $5,100 Y! $18 )

Is tonight a bounce back game for Boston's Gordon Hayward? He has put up just 11, 13, and 15 fantasy points the last three outings but those were all on the road. The Celtics return home tonight and Hayward had two 40+ fp games over the last four game stretch at TD Garden. The C's have the Raptors tonight, which would seemingly be a tough matchup for Hayward. When the teams met in November, however, Hayward had a solid 15/5/5 night with 4 steals. Boston needs a win to snap a 3-game losing streak and Hayward will be instrumental in accomplishing that.

Zach Collins (DK: $3,500 FD: $3,800 Y! $10)

There's upside for Zach Collins as the Trail Blazers are back home as 13 point favorites over the Cavs. Collins' production has been down a bit with an 11 and a 14 point game in his last two, but those were road games. Back at the Moda Center, Collins has put up three straight 20+ fantasy point nights. He's got potential as evidenced by a 6-9 shooting night with 9 rebounds and 4 assists vs. the Bulls a week ago. That output came in 26 minutes, the type of usage Collins should see Wednesday vs. the Cavs.

Centers

Rudy Gobert ( DK: $8,500, FD: $9,900 Y! $37)

Rudy Gobert is almost a 'play every day' at the C position anyway, but he's got a very favorable matchup with the Clippers Wednesday. LAC is 30th vs. the C position over the last 5 games and have allowed rebound totals of 16, 21, 14, and 24 over that span. Gobert has posted 25, 16, and 18 rebounds over his past three contests. Those games were at home and the Jazz are on the road tonight - but you have to take a chance considering the Clippers defense.

Gobert is a must-play because of his matchup with the Clippers' post defense

Jarrett Allen (DK: $5,600 FD: $6,500 Y! $22)

The projections aren't there for Jarrett Allen vs. the Houston Rockets defense that is in the top half defensively vs. the C position. When Brooklyn met Houston in early November, Allen was held to 10 points and 8 rebounds. There are a couple reasons why the Nets C has high upside, however. First off, he's playing with confidence, posting back to back 12 rebound games and adding 19 points in 2 of the last 5. Clint Capela is also now out for Houston until late February so Allen has a favorable matchup against Nene and a casserole of forwards.

Kevon Looney (DK:$4,100 FD:$4,800 Y!11)

It might be a little loonie to think that the Warriors C can do it on back-to-back nights, but Kevon Looney's line of 9 points and 12 boards last night was solid for the value. The B2B shouldn't be a worry either, as Looney logged just 24 minutes in what was a glorified scrimmage in Golden State's 142-111 win over the Nuggets. The total for tonight's contest with the Pelicans is 240.5 so there should be plenty of points to go around. New Orleans is just 6-17 on the road this season and is 23rd defensively vs. the C position. Minnesota's Karl-Anthony Towns just had a 27 rebound night vs. the Pelicans on Saturday, which bodes well for Looney on the boards.

That puts a bow on Wednesday's DailyDribble from LineStar. These blowout games aren't the most fun to watch, but they definitely make DFS more interesting and open up the strategy book a bit. There are 6 games on the NBA slate for tomorrow which is a nice number for a Thursday. Until then, feel free to follow Carl Taylor (@dailydogsports) for more sports betting insights and oversights.
