Top NBA Plays 1/17 |

At first glance it looks like a glorious 14-game NBA slate to kick off the week. Games are scattered though as part of the holiday for Martin Luther King, Jr. day. The focus for this newsletter will be on the 5-game main slate but there's also a 9-game early and 6-game afternoon card to partake in on this nice day of hoops.

Tonight's DFS Headlines

Lakers @ Celtics

Is this a ๐ŸฆŒCome Out of Your Rut๐ŸฆŒ game for Boston who has lost 6 of 8? The storylines here would be no Anthony Davis for LA, Rajon Rondo ($3.8k) returning to TD Garden, and Marcus Smart ($5.8k) having another ๐ŸšฆGreen Light Game ๐Ÿšฆ after launching 22 three pointers Saturday?

Nuggets @ Timberwolves

Denver plays in the back-to-back here but Minnesota is going to be playing their 3rd game in 4 nights. Karl-Anthony Towns ($9.9k) had 27 points in his return from a knee injury Friday, but was limited to 12 on - days rest on Saturday. The Nuggets are trying to battle through injuries to Gary Harris (groin) who could return Monday while Jamal Murray (ankle) and Paul Millsap (knee) both remain out.

Pacers @ Jazz

There isn't a ton of point

Spurs @ Suns

The Spurs are on the back end of consecutive games but have had some extra down time after an early start on Sunday vs. Miami. San Antonio still has a tough visit to Phoenix to face the Suns who have won 4 of 5. Phoenix has been getting great production from Devin Booker ($8.6k) and DeAndre Ayton ($8.3k) but also likely welcome Kelly Oubre, Jr. ($7.1k) back from a concussion which could dip into usage.

Warriors @ Trail Blazers

Guards

Jarrett Culver DK $5.9k | FD $5.2k

The Timberwolves traded Jeff Teague and Treveon Graham to Atlanta on Thursday for Allen Crabbe. That should open up even more back court minutes for Jarrett Culver. The rookie would seemingly have a tough matchup vs. Indiana, but the two teams just played on Tuesday and he had 17 points and 5 rebounds. We should see a 5-6 minute boost as Minnesota is 2 men down while waiting for Crabbe to clear his physical.

Dillon Brooks DK $5.8k | FD $5.7k

The Grizzlies are putting up points in bunches and it's really not a bad idea to target Dillon Brooks (as well as Ja Morant, Jaren Jackson, Jr., and Jonas Valanciunas) on a near nightly basis. Brooks' price is on the rise, but it still hasn't broken $6k despite the fact he's hit 7X that in 2 of the last 3. Cleveland has allowed 125 and 128 points their last two games Ownership may be down as the Cavs haven't allowed more than 28fp to any of the last 5 SGs they've faced - none with the talent of Brooks though.

Brooks is really starting to come into his own in this Memphis offense.

Damian Lillard DK $8.5k | FD $8.8k

Portland and Dallas is the ESPN Friday night game with all eyes on Luka Doncic, right? Don't sleep on Damian Lillard in this one, trying to make a statement game of his own. Lillard needs 51fp for 6X tonight, a number he hasn't hit in the last 5 games. Lillard has taken 18+ shots in 3 of the last 4 and De'Aaron Fox just put up 56.75 fp Wednesday vs. the Mavs.

Doncic gets a target on his back from opposing PGs

๐Ÿ€๐Ÿ‘ Other Likes  / Dislikes ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ€

Ja Morant is in the Miley Cyrus spot tonight because his salary continues The Climb. We may look back in a few games and say that $8k was a value though, as he's hit 6X or better than that in 2 of the last 3.

Forwards

DeMar DeRozan DK $8.1k | FD $8.1k

The Spurs get a pace boost tonight vs. Atlanta in a game with a betting total of 230. That bodes well for DeMar DeRozan, as the Hawks are 30th defensively vs. both the SG and the SF spot. Rudy Gay is out tonight for San Antonio but DeRozan has no problem getting minutes as it is, with 34+ in three straight. He has two 30+ real point games in two of those.

7X isn't out of the realm of possibility vs. Atlanta

Tobias Harris DK $8.3k | FD $6.7k

There's something going on with the Tobias Harris pricing tonight between sites. Red flags aside, Harris has a great matchup with Chicago's front court defense - or lack thereof - tonight. The Bulls rank 26th defensively vs. the SF position and 30th vs. the PF spot. There's no Embiid, which gives Harris a 7.65 fp boost as it is. In the last three games without Embiid, Harris has 20+ shots twice and has grabbed double digit rebounds in each.

Harris is a must-play on FD especially

Domantas Sabonis DK $8.6k | FD $9k

The Pacers play the Timberwolves for the 2nd time in 3 nights and Domantas Sabonis had a great game Wednesday, shooting 13-17 while grabbing 13 rebounds. Sabonis has 13+ rebounds in each of the last three games and Minnesota ranks 20th in the league in rebound rate. The T'Wolves are also 2 guys down after trading Jeff Teague and Treveon Graham on Thursday.

Indiana looks like a decent target overall tonight.

๐Ÿ€๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ Other Likes / Dislikes ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ€

Cedi Osman ($4.7k) could benefit from the fast paced game vs. Memphis tonight. Osman has 12+ fg attempts in each of the last two games and had a dozen rebounds three games ago vs. the Nuggets.

Center

Bam Adebayo DK $8.2k | FD $8.3k

Ownership should be low on Bam Adebayo tonight, as it's a tough matchup for the Heat vs. the Thunder. OKC is a bit banged up on the blocks though, with Nerlens Noel (ankle) out and Steven Adams leaving the last game 6 minutes in with a knee contusion. Adams is expected to play, but should be on a restriction with a battle against Hassan Whiteside and Portland tomorrow night. Adebayo was able to get off 15 shots Wednesday vs. San Antonio while grabbing 13 rebounds. With OKC being so good defensively on the perimeter, look for Miami to feed the ball inside tonight.

As expected, ownership is low on Adebayo

๐Ÿ€๐Ÿ‘ Other Likes / Dislikes ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ€

Al Horford ($7.5k) is in a great spot vs. Chicago's #30 ranked defense vs. the C.

John Collins ($7.7k) is in a high scoring game (O/U 230) vs. San Antonio tonight. The Spurs have given up 13+ rebounds to the last two C's.
