Top NBA Plays 1/21 | Full NBA Card for MLK Day
There's a bunch of pro basketball on the card today as the NBA tips off starting at 12:30 ET with the Thunder and Knicks. All total there are 11 games on the slate but today's Daily Dribble will focus on the four games in the main card on most sites.
Tonight's Headline Games
The Miami Heat and Boston Celtics (-8) meet up for the second time in a little over a week. The Heat won 115-99 on January 10th behind Dwyane Wade's ($4,900) 19 points.
Can James Harden ($13,200) keep up the scoring prowess despite playing back-to-back games in OT? Harden has gone for 48, 58, and 57 points his last three as the Houston Rockets visit the Philadelphia 76ers (-5).
The Utah Jazz (-5) aim for their 7th straight win as they host the Portland Trail Blazers Monday. Rudy Gobert ($8,500) has 15+ rebounds in 6 of 7.
Demarcus Cousins ($5,700) had 14 points in 15 minutes in his debut for the Golden State Warriors Friday. GSW takes on the Los Angeles Lakers (+12) tonight.
Guards
Justise Winslow (DK: $6,300, FD: $6,500 Y! $22)
Miami's Justise Winslow has seen nice production lately with 30+ point fantasy nights in 4 of the last 5 including two 40+ point games over that span. On paper, the matchup with Boston isn't ideal for the PG position, but when these teams met up on January 10th, Winslow had 13 points, 11 assists, and 7 rebounds. Dwyane Wade played 26 minutes and flirted with a triple-double in his final game in his hometown of Chicago. That emotional outing as well as Miami wrapping up a 4-game road swing should mean Wade's minutes are limited tonight, opening the door for 30-35 for Winslow.
Gerald Green (DK: $4,400 FD: $5,000 Y! $11)
Gerald Green has seen some solid minutes for the Houston Rockets lately with 28, 41, and 30 the last three games. The Rockets could be in trouble tonight with nobody to guard Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers. If this game gets out of hand, it should be another solid usage night for Green. The Rockets were in a hard fought OT game Saturday vs. the Lakers in which three starters logged 41+ minutes. Can we squeeze another 30+ point fantasy night out of Green?
Brandon Ingram (DK: $6,900 FD: $6,700 Y! $24)
Right as the Lakers were getting near to welcoming Rajon Rondo and LeBron James back from the injured list, Lonzo Ball goes down and is expected to miss 4-6 weeks with an ankle injury. Brandon Ingram is expected to be a stopgap at the PG position. He gets thrown into the fire right away vs. Golden State but it is a home game Ingram should, at the very least, continue to see a ton of minutes (35+ in five straight).
Forwards
Eric Gordon (DK: $5,900, FD; $5,500 Y! $19 )
Eric Gordon is just two games back from missing time with a knee injury but he looks great, averaging 25 ppg over that span. Gordon got to the FT line 12 times last time out vs. the Lakers and hit 5 of his 10 three point attempts. Houston is at Philadelphia tonight and although Gordon's production may slow a bit on the road, the Sixers are giving up 5.5 fg a game to SF starters.
Royce O'Neale (DK: $4,600, FD: $5,300 Y! $18 )
With Ricky Rubio close to a return from a hamstring injury, we may see a production dip from Royce O'Neale. Still, the way the Baylor product has played in Rubio's absence has to recoup O'Neale more minutes in the rotation. The last time out vs. the Cavs O'Neal had 16 points, 11 rebounds, and dished out 5 assists. O'Neale had 7+ rebounds in 5 of the 6 games Rubio has missed and he's also had three double-digit scoring outputs over that span.
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (DK: $4,600 FD: $4,600 Y! $14)
The Lakers still don't know who is going to replace Lonzo Ball in the starting lineup until Rajon Rondo returns but there should be minutes available for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope on Monday, regardless. The Lakers are 12 point underdogs at home to Golden State and things could get ugly at the Staples Center. Caldwell-Pope hasn't really had any breakout games lately, but that could change with a different role for the time being. At the very least, Golden State ranks 28th vs. the SF position and KCP should see a lot of time vs. backups tonight.
Centers
Rudy Gobert ( DK: $8,500, FD: $19,600 Y! $40)
The play of the night at the C position is probably Joel Embiid vs. the Rockets but the Sixers big man has had some back issues as of late. Therefore, it's possible that Rudy Gobert could be more of a reliable play on Monday and at a less expensive price. Gobert is going to get his rebounds, as he has two outings of 22+ boards over his last three. Gobert has also seen a slight scoring increase with 18+ in his last three. The Trail Blazers are a solid rebounding team, but Gobert has been an absolute beast on the blocks lately.
DeMarcus Cousins (DK: $5,700 FD: $5,100 Y! $20)
The common sentiment around Demarcus Cousins in the DFS realm right now is to 'get him while you can' at this price. There aren't many C's at under $6,000 that can give the kind of upside that Boogie can. He went 5/11 from the field including 3/4 from three point range in his debut Friday night. Cousins also grabbed 6 rebounds but fouled out, so his minutes were limited to 15. That was his first game in nearly a year and with a new team. Expect production to only increase as Cousins gets more comfortable.
PJ Tucker (DK:$5,300 FD:$5,500 Y!19)
The undersized PJ Tucker is definitely playing out of position at the C position. The bright side is that he also creates some mismatches on the offensive end. Tucker draws Joel Embiid on Monday but Embiid has experienced some back spasms in the past week. Tucker had 20 points and 10 rebounds against Brooklyn's 7-footer Jarrett Allen on Wednesday. With the Rockets acquisition of Kenneth Faried, Tucker may also see more minutes in his familiar role at forward.
Day basketball was nice on a Monday. That being said, the real victim is tomorrow's Tuesday slate which features just 4 games. They are four star-studded games, however, headlined by OKC in a B2B.
