Top NBA Plays 12/17 | Is 8 the Ideal Number of Games for a DFS Night?

There are 8 games on the NBA schedule tonight, which is arguably the perfect amount of contests for DFS players. Pro hoops gives us those flooded 3 game slates some nights and then over saturates with 11+ games other times. With 8 games, we can dig into each game in detail, but there's still enough roster variety. Some people would say, eight is enough.

On this day in 2016, Russell Westbrook posted a 22 assist night vs. the Suns, which still fell short of Scott Skiles record of 30. Russ is in action tonight vs. a team that gives up a lot of assists...and points, and rebounds, etc. as he squares off vs. the Bulls. Must play situation even at $11,200?

Games That Stand Out at First Glance

The Golden State (GSW -11) spread seems a bit high when the Warriors host the Grizzlies. Then again, the Warriors just won a matchup by 16 on November 5th in Memphis. Klay Thompson (DK: $6,400) went for 27 in that game and has solid value in the rematch.

The San Antonio Spurs inexplicably dropped a game to the Chicago Bulls on Saturday. Despite that relapse, San Antonio is still favored by -1 when they host the Philadelphia 76ers. A lot of points are expected for a Spurs game (O/U 225.5)

The LA Clippers have dropped 5 of 6 but are favored by a bucket over a Portland Trail Blazers team that had Saturday and Sunday off. The Clippers' Tobias Harris (DK: $7,200) had 34 points and 11 rebounds when these teams met up at the end of November.

The Sacramento Kings are in a (get) blown out situation as they face the Minnesota Timberwolves. The 'Wolves are favored by 8 as the Kings play their 3rd game in 4 nights.

Is it a big night to load up on New York Knicks players as they are a rare favorite (NYK -1.5) over the Phoenix Suns? Then again, the Knicks are in a B2B so do we go heavy on the Suns?

Guards

Klay Thompson (DK: $6,400 FD: $6,800 Y! $27 )

DraftKings is just begging you to take Klay Thompson tonight so the answer to that is, "OK." Thompson has incredible value and has a very nice ceiling vs. the Grizzlies. Thompson has 34+ fantasy point nights in 3 of the last 4 games and the Warriors are huge 13 point favorites tonight vs. Memphis. The Grizzlies have allowed 50+ fantasy point nights twice to SG in their last three games. Thompson has scored 25+ in two of the last three and even grabbed 9 boards last game.

Memphis has struggled vs. the SG position lately.

Kris Dunn (DK: $6,200 FD: $7,200 Y! $18 )

The price is a bit steep for Kris Dunn on FanDuel but he's got nice value on other sites. Zach Lavine is out for the Bulls with Antonio Blakeney listed as the starter in his place. Blakeney too is a GTD due to an illness which leaves minutes potential available for Dunn and a bunch of other Bulls randoms. Lauri Markkanen will probably get his vs. OKC but with Chicago pulling Jabari Parker from the rotation altogether there's a big scoring void for the Bulls. Dunn was solid in the win vs. San Antonio on Saturday with 24 points and 7 rebounds. He got 19 FGA in that contest and should be a crucial part of the Bulls offense in Lavine's absence.

Donovan Mitchell (DK: $6,800 FD: $7,500 Y! $26 )

The best way to describe playing Donovan Mitchell tonight is 'get your points for the price.' He's went for 30+ fp in 7 of the last 9 games and has incredible value on DraftKings especially. The Jazz are a .500 team on the road and beat Houston by 27 points when they met up in Salt Lake City 11 days ago. Mitchell had just 6 points in that game but what better motivation for a bounce back on Monday? Mitchell has 20+ in 3 of the last 4 and has a nice floor and ceiling for the matchup with the Rockets.

Gotta like Mitchell's production over the last 9 games.

Forwards

Al-Farouq Aminu (DK: $4,700 FD: $5,100 Y! $14 )

There's great value on Al-Farouq Aminu tonight for a Portland team facing the skidding Clippers. LA has dropped 5 of 6 and has allowed 119+ points in 5 of 7 games. Aminu has had decent production lately with 22 fp nights the last two. He's capable of 30+ fp nights as evidenced by 15 rebounds vs. the Rockets three games ago and 14/8 vs. Minnesota before that. The Clippers are 21st vs. the PF, so the Trail Blazers front court is a very solid stack this evening.

Derrick Favors (DK: $5,400 FD: $5,800 Y! $17 )

Derrick Favors should be good for a minimum 20 fantasy point night as he's done for 9 of the last 10 games. What you like for his price is the ceiling that includes four games of 29+ over that span. Favors is up against the Rockets #1 ranked defense in PF, which means his usage should be spare this evening (2%). Over the last 4 games however, the Rockets are struggling a bit, allowing 30 fp to Jaren Jackson (19 average), 40+ to Kyle Kuzma, 33 to Al-Farouq Aminu, and 37 to Luka Doncic. Favors should at least get some boards as he has 8+ in 4 of 5.

Dario Saric (DK: $4,900 FD: $5,300 Y! $14 )

The Kings are going to be disinterested in tonight's game while playing in leg 2 of a B2B and with 2 nights off ahead of them. Taj Gibson is a GTD (personal) for the Timberwolves which should open up some court minutes for Dario Saric like it did last time out (34 minutes). Saric has double digit points in the last three while averaging over 8+ rebounds during that span. The Kings are +8 underdogs, which seems like a high amount - that could mean Minnesota in a blowout. Sacramento has allowed 130 points to 2 of the last 3 opponents.

Minnesota forwards should have a big night vs. a tired Sacramento team tonight.

Centers

Steven Adams (DK: $6,900 FD: $7,300 Y! $26 )

Steven Adams is in a solid position for a big night vs. a Bulls team that has Wendell Carter, Jr., Robin Lopez, and not a lot else up front. Chicago is 30th vs. the C position over the last 5 games and has allowed 40+ to four straight centers. The only C to not score 40+ vs. Chicago over that time was indeed Adams, who had 39 in a 112-114 OKC loss last Friday. It's not like Adams played bad in that game with 21 points and 10 boards and he should have similar production (if not better) tonight at home.

The C position has been a nightmare for Chicago defenders recently.

Noah Vonleh (DK: $5,500 FD: $5,500 Y! $18 )

The Knicks are in a weird spot playing the atrocious Phoenix Suns but as New York is in game 2 of a B2B. New York should use big man Enes Kanter sparingly tonight after he logged 35 minutes yesterday vs. the Pacers. Noah Vonleh played 31 minutes in that contest but is better equipped for the B2B situation. Somebody has to score fantasy points for the Knicks tonight, as Phoenix is 23rd or worse vs. every position except SG. The Suns are 26th vs. the PF. Vonleh has double-digit rebounds in 4 of the last 6 and will have a huge fantasy night as he gets more scoring opportunities.

Jursuf Nurkic (DK: $7,500 FD: $8,100 Y! $26 )

The second half of the Portland Trail Blazers front court stack vs. the Clippers is C Jusuf Nurkic. He should have a solid night against Marcin Gortat and the Clippers who have allowed a ton of points on defense lately. Portland has had the last two days off and Nurkic's production increases by 25% when well rested. LA is very vulnerable vs. the center as well, 36.1 fppg to big men. As long as Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum don't steal all the points tonight, the Trail Blazers should have solid production all the way around.

Good luck on this great eight slate for Monday. There are a lot of value plays out there with huge potential. We'll see the results and compare them to Tuesday's docket that is cut in half with four games in the queue. We will see you then.
