Top NBA Plays 12/23| Now This Is More Like It
Last night's two game slate was a great way to ease back into NBA DFS, but tonight we've hit the mother lode with 13 games on tap. Every other team besides the four who played on Tuesday get their 2020/21 seasons underway tonight, and according to early calculations, there are about 2,938, 298 ways to go with lineups.
One thing to build off in game one is minutes. Steph Curry (30:19), Kyrie Irving (25:18), and Kevin Durant (24:56) all were somewhat limited after returning from shortened (or nonexistent) 2019/20 seasons. Kawhi Leonard (34:01) and Paul George (35:46) got right back in the swing of things though.
Today's NBA Matchups
Hornets (-2) at Cavs, O/U OFF, 7:00 PM ET
All eyes on the LaMelo Ball and Gordon Hayward debuts for Charlotte. It's like Home Alone, because Kevins Love (calf) and Porter (personal) are left behind for the Cavs.
Knicks at Pacers (-8), O/U 212.5 7:00 PM ET
The Tom Thibodeau era gets underway in the Big Apple but against Indiana's #4 defense from a season ago. Lowest betting total of the night.
Heat (-4.5) at Magic, O/U 218.5 7:00 PM ET
The Lakers looked worn down falling down 39-19 in the 1st quarter to the Clippers in their opener so could their 2020 Finals opponents do the same? Two top 10 defenses from a year ago.
Wizards at 76ers (-7.5), O/U 229 7:00 PM ET
Westbrook & Durant ended poorly and Westbrook & Harden was Van Halen / Cherone, so how will the Westbrook & Beal wine pairing go? New Sixers coach Doc Rivers is very familiar with the Russ bus.
Pelicans at Raptors (-4), O/U 229.5 7:30 PM ET
The new look Pelicans lost Jrue Holiday (Bucks), added Stan Van Gundy and Steven Adams, and still have Zion Williamson. Toronto kind of returns to bubble life with at least their first 12 home games being held in Tampa Bay.
Bucks (-3.5) at Celtics, O/U 225.5 7:30 PM ET
Celtics 48-24 team from a year ago looks different with Gordon Hayward off to Charlotte and Kemba Walker sidelined with a knee injury. Bucks have scored at least 116 in 5 of 7 vs. Boston's #2 scoring defense.
Hawks (-2) at Bulls, O/U 231.5 8:00 PM ET
Atlanta ran the #4 pace last season, but almost has too much depth to be a DFS target after the additions of Gallinari, Dunn, Rondo, Bogdanovic, and Capela. Bulls look for stability under new coach Billy Donovan.
Thunder at Rockets (-7), O/U 226 8:00 PM ET
Do the Rockets and their top 5 pace take a huge hit after Mike D'Antoni quit as head coach on the plane ride home from the bubble? OKC has huge turnover as well, so flip a coin in this one.
Spurs at Grizzlies (-2), O/U 231.5 8:00 PM ET
Gregg Popovich is supposedly going to run a faster pace this season, which really just means more Dejounte Murray / Derrick White / Patty Mills DFS Roulette. Memphis starts the year without Jaren Jackson and Justise Winslow.
Pistons at Timberwolves (-4.5), O/U 224.5 8:00 PM ET
Ricky Rubio is back home in the Twin Cities, and he could have a big day right out of the gate against a Detroit team that is the Cinnabon of the league - nothing but roll layers.
Kings at Nuggets (-8.5), O/U 225.5 9:00 PM ET
The Nuggets lost a lot of role players with Torrey Craig, Jerami Grant, and Mason Plumlee all heading out to flatter land. Kings have added Hassan Whiteside to team with Marvin Bagley on the post, which could neutralize Nikola Jokic.
Jazz at Trail Blazers (-1), O/U 229 10:00 PM ET
Utah drafted Kansas 7-footer Udoka Azuibuike to team with Rudy Gobert to block all access to the paint like it was a hair salon in San Francisco. Portland had the 5th worst defense last season, but should be better with offseason acquisitions like Robert Covington and Damon Jones.
Mavericks at Suns (-1), O/U 237 10:30 PM ET
No Kristaps Porzingis (knee) until at least the New Year for Dallas, but Chris Paul could also miss his Phoenix debut with ankle soreness.
Tonight's Point Guard / Shooting Guard Notables
Ricky Rubio DK $6.6k | FD $6.1k
Ricky Rubio had some moments last year with the Suns, but he's back at the Target Center in his re-debut with the Timberwolves, facing a Detroit team with rookie Killian Hayes and a defenseless Derrick Rose at the point. Rubio had 16/6/3 when he last faced the Pistons.
Dillon Brooks DK $5.4k | FD $5.1k
Not a bad price tag for Dillon Brooks, who the last time we saw him was putting up 15+ shots in the last six games of the bubble. Memphis ran the #7 pace last year, and face the Spurs who are supposed to be more up tempo this year.
Coby White DK $6.5k | FD $6.2k
Chicago isn't a bad stack option tonight against Atlanta's #4 pace but also last ranked defense from a season ago. Coby White averaged over 13 shots in four preseason games, and had 20+ in 4 of 5 games to wind down 2019/20.
Lonnie Walker DK $4.3k | FD $4k
Popovich wants the Spurs to be upbeat and exciting this year - what's next he starts putting out Tik Tok videos? Either way we should show Lonnie Walker some Savage Love, as he gets a minutes boost with Bryn Forbes off to Milwaukee and Derrick White out with a toe injury.
Walker outplayed projections to close out the bubble last year, albeit on a skeleton crew for the Spurs.
Buddy Hield DK $6.3k | FD $5.2k
Not a bad FD price for Buddy Hield, who is back in the starting lineup after pouting when Bogdan Bogdanovic replaced him last season. The Kings play the Nuggets, who were 11th in points allowed last season but lost three big components of that defense. Hield went for 20/5/8 in his most recent trip to the Pepsi Center last December.
Tonight's SF / PF Notables
TJ Warren DK $5.8 k | FD $6.4k
Keep an eye on the LineStar app as TJ Warren is a GTD with plantar fasciitis, but that's a great DK price for "Bubble Dr. J", who went for 30+ real points in 4 of his last 6 games last season including 53 vs. the 76ers.
Tobias Harris $6.2k | FD $6.6k
Cue up the Peaches & Herb because Tobias Harris is "reunited" with Doc Rivers, with whom he averaged his two highest scoring seasons as a member of the Clippers in 2018 and 2019. Philly plays Washington's #29 ranked defense from a year ago to open the season.
Carmelo Anthony $5.4k | FD $4.7k
Carmelo Anthony averaged 15.4 ppg as a starter last year for Portland, but he agreed to sign on as a reserve this season with Portland trying to bolster their defense with the acquisition of Robert Covington. Inject Carmelo launching 20+ shots against other teams' 2nd units into my veins like a COVID vaccine please.
Otto Porter $5.2k | FD $4.6k
Otto Porter, Jr. quietly returned to the Bulls at the end of last season after missing most of the season with a foot injury, putting up a 41 and a 28 fp night in his final two games. Chicago plays a banged up Hawks team that pushes the pace, and Porter should thrive in Billy Donovan's 6th man role.
Christian Wood DK $6.3k | FD $6.4k
Some people think Christian Wood is a $41 million mistake for the Rockets while others think that number is a steal for Houston. Let's lay the Wood for a player who is up against a rebuilding OKC team (who lost Steven Adams) and who put up 27/10 in his only preseason game this year.
Tonight's Center Position Notables
Jonas Valanciunas DK $7.1k | FD $6.7k
Jonas Valanciunas isn't a bad pivot from the big dogs like Embiid, Jokic, and Towns tonight as he finished last year with a couple 50 fp burgers including an 18 rebound and 9 assist average in games against Milwaukee and Portland. Spurs at Memphis has the 2nd highest betting total of the night behind Dallas at Phoenix, so there are points to be had.
Steven Adams DK $6.1k | FD $5.5k
Steven Adams is the type of emotional player that will want to make a big opening night impact with his new team the Pelicans. It also doesn't hurt that New Orleans is facing a Toronto team that has to replace both Serge Ibaka and Marc Gasol on the post.

🔥 SuperDraft Multiplier Must-Play
Today's SuperDraft multiplier must-play is Christian Wood at 1.35X. Wood averaged 13/6 in 22 mpg for Detroit last year, but moves into the starting spot and should see his rebounds increase as the next tallest guy in the Rockets front court is like 5'11"
