Top NBA Plays 12/26 | Unwrapping a Gem
Hopefully the non-denominational mystical gift giver in your life was good to you yesterday. Their work is done however and now it's time for LineStar to continue to be the gift that keeps on giving as we jump into this 6-game post-Christmas hangover cure.
Tonight's DFS Headlines
Wizards @ Pistons
Detroit has had the last 2 nights off which they hope helps players like Blake Griffin ($6.8k), Christian Wood ($4.2k), Derrick Rose ($6.4k), and Luke Kennard (OUT) continue to get healthy. The Pistons have a great matchup for an equally banged up Wizards team that allows over 120+ ppg.
Knicks @ Nets
That price is getting up there for Spencer Dinwiddie ($8.7k) as he tries to lead the Nets to their 5th straight win over the Knicks. Dinwiddie has averaged 40ppg the last two and has taken at least 26 shots in three straight. NYK has allowed 120+ in 4 straight games.
Grizzlies @ Thunder
We don't think of OKC as an offensive powerhouse (18th in scoring) but they're up against a Grizzlies squad that surrendered 145 points to the Spurs on Monday.
Spurs @ Mavericks
Luka Doncic ($11.8k) is set to return from an ankle injury when Dallas hosts the Spurs tonight. The Mavs' MVP candidate had 79fp the game before getting injured, but was held to sub-50 in three prior to that. The San Antonio defense has been a bit better over the last 10 days, holding both Brooklyn and Houston to under 110 points.
Timberwolves @ Kings
The good thing for both of these teams is that somebody has to win, as these squads have lost 15 straight combined. The Timberwolves haven't allowed more than 113 points on their current 4-game road trip, but that means their defense improves with Karl-Anthony Towns (knee) out of the lineup.
Trail Blazers @ Jazz
Utah got a new present over the holidays, trading Dante Exum to Cleveland for Jordan Clarkson ($4.1k). They also turned in a broken toy... waiving Jeff Green. Speaking of broken, that was Portland's shooting on Monday as Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum combined to go 2-20 from three point range in a loss to the Pelicans.
Guards
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander DK $6.7k | FD $6.7k
Can Shai Gilgeous-Alexander keep the momentum going that has seen him score 32 real points in consecutive games? It's not a bad bet considering Memphis just allowed 145 points to the Spurs on Monday. The Grizzlies and Thunder played 8 days ago with Gilgeous-Alexander going 7-16 from the field while also grabbing 9 rebounds. Starting SGs have shot 8-32 vs. Memphis since that game, but overall, the Grizzlies are 25th in dVp vs. the position.
Elfrid Payton DK $5.3k | FD $5.4k
Elfrid Payton makes his 3rd straight start for the Knicks tonight in a cross-town rivalry game against the Nets. The PG has been dealing in both of those games, handing out 10 and 12 assists for a 34 and a 35 fp night. Payton has also averaged 5 rebounds per game in his starts. The only thing we're waiting on is points, as he has a total of 20 in his last 4 games. The Nets could be rested, having not played since Saturday - or they could be rusty.
Derrick Rose DK $6.4k | FD $5.8k
Attack the Wizards defense in any and all ways possible. Derrick Rose went 8-17 while dishing out 8 assists vs. Washington on December 16th. The Pistons have had the last 2 nights off and are finally out of the gauntlet that saw them face Philly, Chicago, Boston, and Toronto - all top 10 defenses. Rose had back-to-back 40+ fp nights prior to that stretch and has a great chance to get back there tonight.
๐๐ Other Likes / Dislikes ๐๐
DK loves Gary Payton II, listing him at $5,800 (FD $4k) in just his 2nd game of the season for Washington.
De'Aaron Fox ($7k) is coming off a career high tying 31 real points Monday and has a solid matchup vs. the revolving door that is the Timberwolves back court.
Jordan Clarkson ($4.1k) may be re-energized in going to a playoff contender in Utah, making his debut tonight.
Forwards
Brandon Clarke DK $5k | FD $5.1k
Memphis' Brandon Clarke is one of the most efficient shooters in the league over the last couple weeks. DFS owners just wish those shots would come at a little more frequent pace. The rookie is finding his groove, shooting nearly 67% from the floor over the last 7 games. The only problem is that he hasn't attempted double digits in shots in any of the last three. Clarke's best game over that span was 8 days ago against OKC when he went 13-19 from the field while grabbing 7 rebounds. Got to play that matchup again.
Trevor Ariza DK $4k | FD $4.1k
Trevor Ariza has found some slight DFS success as of late, averaging nearly 30fp over his last two games. Those tilts were against two of the top 10 pace teams in the league in Houston and Memphis. Ariza's success has a great chance to continue tonight vs. the #2 team in possessions per game in Minnesota. Ariza logged 34 minutes last game as Bogdan Bogdanovic continues to work his way back from an ankle injury. That usage should also continue considering Buddy Hield's shooting woes over the last three games (9-45). Minnesota is 29th defensively vs. the SF position, meaning Harrison Barnes ($5.2k) is another viable option in this spot.
Carmelo Anthony DK $5.8k | FD $6.2k
Carmelo Anthony returned from a 1-game knee injury on Monday to lead Portland in scoring with 23 points while also grabbing 9 boards. The Trail Blazers managed just 94 points total but Anthony still squeezed out a 39fp night. Under $6k on DK for a guy who has taken 16+ shots in his last 4 healthy games? Utah has been shutting down the SF/PF spot as of late, but they've also been facing the likes of Meyers Leonard, Miles Bridges, and Kevon Looney.
๐๐๐ Other Likes / Dislikes ๐๐๐
Markieff Morris ($5.4k) gets to face the Wizards tonight not only his old team, but one very banged up in the front court. Kristaps Porzingis ($8.3k) has gone for 50+ fp in 4 of the last 5 - but how much of a production hit does he see with the return of Doncic?
Center
Jonas Valanciunas DK $6.1k | FD $6.6k
Everybody is going to be riding the likes of Drummond, Whiteside, perhaps Gobert, and maybe even Towns tonight. A very solid under-the-radar play at the big man position is Memphis' Jonas Valanciunas. There's getting to be a lot of mouths to feed in the talented young Grizzlies lineup, but Valanciunas has attempted at least 13 fgs in three straight games. He has over a dozen rebounds twice in that span as well and recently had a 4 block game vs. Cleveland. Valanciunas just shot 11-16 with 9 rebounds 8 days ago vs. Steven Adams and OKC, tonight's Memphis opponent. He also averaged 17/13.5 in two games vs. the Thunder last season and likes the matchup.
๐๐ Other Likes / Dislikes ๐๐
The #3 and #4 leading rebounders in the league square off when Hassan Whiteside ($7.7k) and Portland visit Utah and Rudy Gobert ($8.9k).
Andre Drummond ($10k) is the chalk of the night up against Washington's very injured front court. Drummond had 27 real points coming off the bench last game after being suspended for missing the morning shoot around.

Today's SuperDraft multiplier must-play is Andre Drummond. Anything less than a 20/20 game from Drummond tonight vs. Washington would be considered a sub-par performance.
