Top NBA Plays 12/28 | Not a Lot of Nail Biters For Friday Night
There are 10 games on the NBA docket tonight but there's a glaring lack of storylines to any of these contests except maybe the Battle of Los Angeles between the Lakers and Clippers. Seven of the games have spreads of 5 points or more but as always, that still means a solid DFS night awaits.
Tonight's Headline Games
The Los Angeles Lakers are the walking wounded on Friday. Not only are they playing in a B2B after a 116-117 loss to the Sacramento Kings last night, the LA injury list takes as long to read as Tolstoy. LeBron James is out again, as is Rajon Rondo. Javale McGee is also out indefinitely and now Lonzo Ball is battling a lower body injury. The Los Angeles Clippers are still just -5 favorites, however.
The Denver Nuggets (-4) hosting the San Antonio Spurs is the game of the night. Denver still holds on to the top spot in the West but the Spurs have turned things around nicely with an 8-2 run over their last 10.
Karl-Anthony Towns ($9,600) has good value considering the last time the Minnesota Timberwolves played the Atlanta Hawks he had 56 points and 15 rebounds. Minnesota is in a blowout spot though as -9 home favorites.
The Chicago Bulls are +5 underdogs at the Washington Wizards. The Wiz are 2-8 over their last 10 and rank 28th or worse vs. every position. Expect a lot of exposure for Bulls players Zach Lavine ($6,500) and Lauri Markkanen ($7,200).
Some other key games see Russ Westbrook ($10,900) and the Oklahoma City Thunder up against the Phoenix Suns, who have played better recently. Anthony Davis ($11,600) is once again the highest priced player of the night but the New Orleans Pelicans are just -4 favorites vs. the Dallas Mavericks who are 2-14 on the road.
Guards
Zach Lavine(DK: $6,500, FD: $7,600 Y! $29)
You have to like Zach Lavine tonight as the Bulls are up against a struggling Wizards team that has actually gotten worse since acquiring Trevor Ariza. Washington has allowed 130 and 146 points in 2 of their last 3 home games. Lavine came off the bench the last game after missing five contests with an ankle injury and scored 28 points in 26 minutes. Washington is 30th vs. the SG over the last five games.
Evan Fournier (DK: $5,400 FD: $5,700 Y! $18)
The Orlando Magic are in the midst of a 4 game losing streak and are up against the top team in the East tonight. Even so, the spread has dropped from TOR -7 to -5.5 despite a majority of bettors being on the Raptors. This leads us to believe the Magic could keep things close tonight, which bodes well for a big night from Evan Fournier. The Orlando SG is a solid producer with four 30+ fantasy point nights over his last five. Fournier is a good contrarian play (2.95% ownership) as Toronto is #1 in defending opposing SG. When these two teams met up on 11/20, however, Fournier had 27 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists in a two point Orlando loss.
Darren Collison (DK: $4,600 FD: $5,300 Y! $16)
After tonight's game vs. the Pistons, the Indiana Pacers have two nights off. The big question is does that mean ailing guards Victor Oladipo and Tyreke Evans play to keep the Pacers 3-game win streak in tact or rest so it will be 4 nights off between games? Always watch the injury report but Darren Collison could be a play regardless. Detroit allows 36.3 fppg to PG starters and Collison's fp increases 10.47 with Oladipo and Evans out of the lineup. Collison had a 17 assist night on 12/10 and is coming off a 34 point fantasy night vs. Atlanta.
Forwards
Kyle Kuzma (DK: $7,700, FD; $7,200 Y! $32 )
He's a very risky play on part two of a B2B but Kyle Kuzma shined last night with LeBron James and others out of the lineup. Kuzma dropped 33 points and grabbed 9 rebounds but also played 40 minutes. Tonight is a home game vs. the Clippers but how many minutes can we expect from the Lakers PF? The last time LA played in a B2B Kuzma had 14 points in 27 minutes in night one and followed that with 20 points in 28 minutes. Ownership is just 4% but somebody has to score for the Lakers tonight, right?
Danilo Gallinari (DK: $6,700, FD: $7,100 Y! $27 )
So the flip side of the Lakers being not tired for tonight's matchup is that they actually are tired. Great science, right? If the Clippers are going to cover the -5 spread and then some 'away' at Staples, expect a big night from Danilo Gallinari. The LA PF has a 50 point and a 46 point fantasy night over his last four. He's scored 20+ in five of six and grabbed 11 boards two games ago vs. Golden State. The Lakers are 24th vs. the PF the last five games which will be even worse when they are fatigued.
Harrison Barnes (DK: $5,600 FD: $5,700 Y! $20)
There's really good value on Harrison Barnes tonight. First off, Dallas seems like they should be more than 4 point 'dogs at New Orleans considering they are 2-14 on the road this season. That leads to believe the Pelicans could be a trap bet. These two teams played the day after Christmas with Dallas winning by 3 at home. Barnes had just 16 points and 4 rebounds in that game but Wesley Matthews will miss tonight's contest. Luka Doncic is also a GTD which would boost Barnes' usage 8% and fantasy points up 11. At the very least, Barnes launches - just need some more of them to go in.
Centers
Steven Adams (DK: $6,800 FD: $7,200 Y! $30)
Steven Adams is on the road at Phoenix tonight. The Thunder C has had his best DFS games away lately. He had a 54 fp night in Denver on 12/14 and another 54 point outing at Sacramento on 12/19. Paul George is questionable Friday with a quad injury, which could lead to a bigger offensive load for Adams if PG sits. The Suns are giving up 10.2 rpg to opposing centers and Phoenix has been playing well lately, which should lead to a closer game and more Adams minutes.
Karl-Anthony Towns ( DK: $9,600, FD: $9,600 Y! $41)
He's going to cost a ton, but is Karl-Anthony Towns as close to a sure thing as we see on the board tonight? The absolute dominance from Towns the last time Minnesota played Atlanta (56 points, 15 rebounds, 86.25 fp) is pretty hard to ignore. Towns is also coming off a 20 point, 20 rebound night vs. the Bulls. Ownership is just 4% for Towns because of his price and also the fact that the Hawks are top 5 vs. opposing centers. Andre Drummond did grab 15 boards against Atlanta on 12/23 and there's no reason to believe KAT doesn't explode here...except if Minnesota gets a blow out win.
Thomas Bryant (DK: $3,800 FD: $4,400 Y! $11)
The last time Thomas Bryant played at home, he hit 14/14 from the field and grabbed 13 rebounds en route to a 51 point fantasy night. It would be a lot to ask for a duplicate tonight but it's definitely possible when the Wizards host the Bulls. Chicago is 29th vs. C starters over the last five games and has allowed a 20 rebound night vs. Karl-Anthony Towns and 19 boards to Nikola Vucevic in the last three games. Bryant has played just 30 minutes total the last two games and the Washington offense has been held to 95 points or less in both contests. Give him a minutes increase tonight Scott Brooks you're playing Chicago for crying out loud!
It's almost time for popping bottles but there's still 7 games to break down on Monday to end 2018 with a bang. We will see you then!
