Top NBA Plays 1/24 | Complimentary Four Game Card
Today is national compliment day so thank you NBA for Thursday's 4-game slate, it looks beautiful. It's also beer can appreciation day so if the DFS card doesn't go the way we want it to, we've got that going for us, which is nice.
Tonight's Headline Games
How much value does Jrue Holiday ($8,200) have after logging 38 minutes last night vs. the Pistons? Oddsmakers are saying not much, as the New Orleans Pelicans are +11.5 underdogs at the Oklahoma City Thunder.
With Anthony Davis out, is Karl-Anthony Towns ($10,200) the big man play of the night as the Minnesota Timberwolves visit the Los Angeles Lakers? When the teams met up 18 days ago Towns had 28 points and 18 boards.
Steph Curry ($9,100) likes the matchup when his Golden State Warriors travel to take on the Washington Wizards. Back in October with John Wall guarding him, Curry dropped 51.
The Phoenix Suns (+7.5) are giving up a ton of points on their current 5 game losing streak. What a bad night for Damian Lillard ($8,400) of the Portland Trail Blazers to be questionable with a hand injury.
Guards
Derrick Rose (DK: $6,500, FD: $6,600 Y! $22)
Derrick Rose likes to get rowdy in Los Angeles and he's looking for a bounce back game as the T'Wolves play the Lakers today. You could kind of see a letdown coming (still bit though) for Rose vs. the Suns Tuesday. He scored 31 at the Target Center then followed that up with just 6 points in Phoenix. D-Rose dropped 31 when the Wolves played the Lakers in LA in November and followed that up with 21 at the Staples Center vs. the Clippers. Rose logged 27 minutes in the first game of a B2B under new coach Ryan Saunders but he should see more time tonight as Tyus Jones is out and Jeff Teague is fighting through an injury.
Dennis Schroder (DK: $4,800 FD: $6,700 Y! $18)
Good DK value on Dennis Schroder tonight as the Thunder host a banged up and tired Pelicans squad. Even when the Pelicans were at full strength back at the beginning of December, Schroder went for 24 points and launched 11 three pointers. That was a close 118-114 Pelicans win in which Schroder logged 32 minutes. Will he see that many tonight if this game gets out of hand? More than likely, as he saw 28 minutes of court time vs. the Knicks Monday even though OKC won by 18. Schroder's faster pace vs. a Pelicans backcourt that saw Jrue Holiday (38:11) and Elfrid Payton (32:15) see extended court time last night is a solid play.
Tomas Satoransky (DK: $5,400 FD: $6,400 Y! $21)
Can Tomas Satoransky approach a 40 point fantasy night in an up-pace game (+43%) vs. Golden State? You, first off, have to like the minutes that the Washington PG is seeing, as he's logged 35+ in three of the last four contests. Out of that usage has come some nice assist numbers, as Satoransky has dished out 8+ dimes in 3 of 5. He had an 18/12/10 triple double 1/11 vs. Minnesota and went to the FT line 8 times in 20 minutes in the 1st matchup with Golden State this season (when John Wall was healthy).
Forwards
Darius Miller (DK: $3,300, FD; $6,000 Y! $10 )
Nothing in his past stat sheets would suggest a big night from New Orleans' Darius Miller but you have to think he sees a lot of time tonight vs. OKC. A) the game has blowout potential as the Thunder are nearly a dozen point favorites. B) The Pelicans are on part two of a back-to-back and four starters logged over 30 minutes last night vs. Detroit. C) Nikola Mirotic went down with a calf injury and is OUT tonight with E'Twaun Moore. Somebody on the Pelicans bench is going to have a breakout night - why not Miller Time?
Kelly Oubre Jr. (DK: $5,700, FD: $6,000 Y! $20 )
If you are Phoenix Suns coach Igor Kokoskov (condolences) why not unleash Kelly Oubre Jr. tonight vs. the Trail Blazers? The entire starting front court is a game time decision and you're on the first leg of a back-to-back with a trip to Denver tomorrow. Oubre Jr. broke our hearts Tuesday with just 13 points and 3 rebounds but we'll chalk that up to an off night. Oubre Jr. had posted 18+ points in 4 of 5 games prior (two with 24+) and had three games of at least 8 rebounds over that span. His production goes up 13.08 points with all the injuries that Phoenix has for Thursday as well.
Trevor Ariza (DK: $5,900 FD: $7,000 Y!: $24)
Can the Wizards keep things competitive tonight as +10 home underdogs vs. the Warriors? If so, it should be another solid night for Trevor Ariza who has gone for 40+ fantasy points in two of the last three games. Somebody like Sam Dekker ($3,400) could see a lot of minutes off the bench if things get ugly but you have to like Ariza's minutes (40.7 the last three). Washington has quietly won four of their last five including wins over the Bucks and Sixers. Ariza should be comfortable as Washington is playing their 6th straight game (11+ fg attempts in each) at home and GSW just gave up a 41.75 fp night to SF Tobias Harris two games ago.
Centers
Jusuf Nurkic ( DK: $8,000, FD: $9,500 Y! $33)
Big things should be coming for Jusuf Nurkic tonight in his matchup at Phoenix. The Suns are missing DeAndre Ayton, TJ Warren, and Richaun Holmes up front and last game, Karl-Anthony Towns exploited the Phoenix front line for 25 points and 18 rebounds. The Suns give up 40.5 fppg defensively to opposing centers including over 10 rebounds/game. Nurkic has two 50-burger fantasy outings over his last four games and should easily get at least that today - as long as Phoenix keeps it competitive.
Ivica Zubac (DK: $4,700 FD: $4,800 Y! $12)
On paper, the matchup with Ivica Zubac vs. Karl-Anthony Towns doesn't look ideal. That being said, Tyson Chandler and/or JaVale McGee will likely be in to guard KAT, which opens up Zubac for some time vs. the T'Wolves' bench. Towns could also play less, as Minnesota is in part one of a B2B. Zubac has had three solid outings in a row including a 42 point fantasy night January 17th vs. the Thunder. He has stepped up nicely offensively since Lonzo Ball went down, scoring 26, 17, and 18 points the last three games. Good things happen when Zubac logs at least 20 minutes which he should be able to do for the 4th straight game.
Jahlil Okafor (DK:$4,900 FD:$5,500 Y!12)
It's not ideal that Jahlil Okafor is on part two of a B2B when the Pelicans face the Thunder. But on a four game slate, he's got some of the best value at the C position. Okafor did play 30 minutes Wednesday vs. Detroit, but he also had his second straight 40+ point fantasy night. The thing you like about Okafor is that he can score fantasy points a variety of ways, as evidenced by his 17 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assist night vs. the Pistons. With Anthony Davis and Nikola Mirotic out and Julius Randle logging 33 minutes last night, the 23-year old Okafor should see solid usage. OKC getting a big lead (-11.5 favorites) and pulling Steven Adams wouldn't hurt either.
Options are a bit limited tonight with three perceived blowouts out of the four games. Perception doesn't always become reality, however. And as a DFS player, we love (and simultaneously hate) a little bit of unpredictability. 10 games wind out the week tomorrow so be patient.
