Top NBA Plays 1/25 | Bad Teams Rising

It's quite a 10 game card for NBA Friday. It's an interesting one too, as some of the really bad teams in the league are in action. Obviously the NBA 'strives' for parity and the reason hotels in Vegas are so nice is because nothing is a given in the sports betting world. That being said, 20+ point blowouts aren't uncommon lately. These lopsided wins can wreak havoc in the daily fantasy game, but that's what makes it (aggravatingly) fun.

Tonight's Headline Games

How bad are the Sacramento Kings right now that they are +1.5 underdogs at the Memphis Grizzlies? Memphis has lost 7 straight games.

Speaking of bad, the New York Knicks have also dropped 7 in a row. They make the short trek to face the Brooklyn Nets(-9.5) . Does Jarrett Allen ($5,800) have a bounce back game for the Nets?

Andrew Wiggins ($5,700) had a 40+ point fantasy night for the Minnesota Timberwolves on Thursday. Can you ride him in a B2B (-27.62%) at the Utah Jazz?

How do you tread with Denver Nuggets players such as Nikola Jokic ($10,600) vs. the Phoenix Suns? The Suns are in a B2B after losing their 6th straight game last night.

Do LA Clippers bench players such as Montrezl Harrell ($6,700) have value tonight at the Chicago Bulls? Chicago is fresh off a 20 point home loss to a shorthanded Atlanta team.

Guards

D'Angelo Russell (DK: $8,600, FD: $8,800 Y! $34)

The price has sure climbed for Brooklyn's D'Angelo Russell but to be honest, he's been worth it lately. There are reasons why Russell is worth the hefty price tag tonight, mostly because he's up against the Knicks who are 28th in the league defensively vs. the PG position. Russell is definitely getting his shots with 19+ field goal attempts in five of the last six games. With the 'rivalry' game vs. the Knicks on Friday, expect a fourth straight 50+ fantasy point game.

Elie Okobo (DK: $3,000 FD: $3,600 Y! $10)

The Suns' Elie Okobo might have been a good play anyway, with the Suns in danger of getting blown out in Denver. Phoenix is on a B2B which will see a minute increase for Okobo regardless but now he might get the start at PG after De'Anthony Melton rolled his ankle Thursday. In the wake of Melton's injury, Okobo received his most minutes (27:46) since December 6th last night. He responded with 12 points and 7 rebounds for a solid 26 point fantasy night.

Jared Terrell (DK: $3,000 FD: $3,500 Y! $10)

An interesting play for this evening is Minnesota's Jared Terrell. The rookie from Rhode Island has appeared in just five games this season but he should get a major opportunity on Friday. The T'Wolves backcourt is absolutely decimated as Jeff Teague, Derrick Rose, and Tyus Jones will all likely miss the matchup with the Jazz. Jerryd Bayless ($3,600) has value in the starting PG position but Terrell had a nice night vs. the Lakers Thursday with 10 points in 9:47 of court time. What can he do with 20-25 minutes?

Forwards

Eric Gordon (DK: $5,300, FD; $5,400 Y! $19 )

Some might think Eric Gordon has had a couple down nights in a row. In the last two, he has had a 30 and a 17 point fantasy night but both those games were on the road. Plus, he still averaged 14 shot attempts. The Rockets are back home on Friday and in Gordon's last game at the Toyota Center he went for 44 fantasy points. Danuel House was sent to the G-League so the minutes will be there for Gordon. Toronto isn't as good as you'd think they'd be against the SF either, allowing 29.2 fppg.

Should be a solid DFS game in the Raptors / Rockets matchup

Bobby Portis (DK: $5,700, FD: $5,300 Y! $20 )

Chicago's Bobby Portis should approach a 30-35 point fantasy night vs. the Clippers. The minutes will be there because the Bulls are probably going to get blown out - six of Chicago's last 8 losses have been by at least a dozen points. LA is a great matchup for Portis, as they are getting killed on the boards lately (four straight centers have at least 14 rebounds). Robin Lopez ($3,700) played just 15 minutes vs. the Hawks (Portis 33:47) and Jabari Parker ($4,200) could miss his 2nd straight game with a knee injury.

Aaron Gordon (DK: $6,500 FD: $6,600 Y!: $26)

It's time for Orlando to crack the throttle on Aaron Gordon vs. Washington. Gordon was on a pitch count (24:51) Wednesday at the Nets, as it was his first game back from missing time with a back injury. With a game under his belt and the Magic back home vs. Washington, Gordon should play 30-35 at least. The Wizards are on a B2B after hosting Golden State on Thursday and rank 30th defensively vs. the PF position.

Gordon should have a solid night vs. Washington.

Centers

Dragan Bender ( DK: $4,600, FD: $4,600 Y! $12)

Normally a center playing in leg two of a B2B would be a fade play but there are a number of reasons that Dragan Bender should offer a great ROI on Friday. First off, Bender is up against the Nuggets who are great in the front court - but who will also likely be without Nikola Jokic as he sits out due to a suspension. The 7'1" Bender isn't your typical prodding big man either, he's more of an athletic PF so the B2B shouldn't be as big of an issue. Plus, Bender played just 27 minutes Thursday vs. Portland. With DeAndre Ayton, Richaun Holmes, and TJ Warren all likely to miss Friday's game with injuries, you have to like Bender's opportunities tonight.

Nikola Vucevic (DK: $9,700 FD: $10,200 Y! $41)

There's a lot of value at the guard position today, which should allow enough budget to get Nikola Vucevic in the lineup. The Orlando center arguably is more of a sure thing than even James Harden tonight. The Magic are up against the Wizards who come in on a back-to-back and were beaten up by DeMarcus Cousins for an 8-12 shooting night Thursday. Vucevic has gone for 50+ fantasy points in three of the last four and should easily hit that benchmark again.

Hassan Whiteside (DK:$6,900 FD:$7,000 Y!21)

The Heat showcased Hassan Whiteside on Wednesday vs. the Clippers as he logged 32 minutes - the most since December 2nd. The Miami C responded with 22 points and 16 boards en route to a 49 point fantasy night. Granted, he was at home and vs. the Clippers who are horrible vs. the C position but you have to think Whiteside builds on that performance? Miami is on the road, but they're also against a Cleveland team that has allowed three 50+ fantasy point nights to the C over their last five.

Is this another show-off game for Whiteside?

Will things get ugly tonight or will the poor teams come to play? We shall see. It was a weird week in the NBA with 4-game slates 3 of the 5 days. Looking ahead, next week looks solid with at least 5 games every night. Until then, feel free to follow Carl Taylor (@dailydogsports) for more sports betting insights and oversights.
