Top NBA Plays 1/29 | Price Cuts
There are some star players seeing their prices slashed ahead of Tuesday's 7 game card. We've got Jrue Holiday (-$4,000), Julius Randle (-$3,600), and Russell Westbrook (-$2,600) among the players in the value bin. That being said, there's a lot of variety out there with 14 teams in action. Let's see if we can find a cult classic:
Tonight's Headline Games
The Brooklyn Nets (-7) are on a back-to-back on Tuesday yet are still favored over the Chicago Bulls. Chicago is pretty horrible, yet this feels like one of those 'win for some reason' types of games that oddsmakers love.
The Oklahoma City Thunder bring a 5-game win streak into action vs. the Orlando Magic. The Magic have dropped 3 in a row and are just 3-7 over their last 10.
Are the Milwaukee Bucks in a tough spot Tuesday? It seems like they should be more than -6.5 favorites at the Detroit Pistons
It's hard to make up any ground in the Western Conference considering the top 8 seeds have combined to win 32 straight games. The Los Angeles Lakers try to keep pace when they host the Philadelphia 76ers at the Staples Center.
Guards
Rajon Rondo (DK: $6,700, FD: $6,900 Y! $24)
Rajon Rondo might be kind of a reach tonight but you have to like his minutes and his price isn't that horrible. The Lakers may be without Kyle Kuzma Tuesday vs. Philadelphia, which opens up Rondo's scoring chances a bit. The Sixers are stingy allowing assists to PG, not allowing more than 5 the last five games but Rondo has dished out 13 and 11 in his two games back from injury.
Tomas Satoransky (DK: $6,000 FD: $6,700 Y! $21)
Thanks to the price on Chicago's Zach Lavine ($7,200) this made Tomas Satoransky the play instead. Unlike the Dwayne Johnson movie, this is not a bad Back Up Plan as Satoransky is coming off a 47 point fantasy night vs. the Spurs. That was his second game with 47 over the last three outings and there's a matchup with Cleveland's 29th ranked defense vs. the PG waiting in the wings.
Evan Fournier (DK: $5,500, FD; $5,900 Y! $15 )
If they're going to give this price on Evan Fournier, why not take him? The Magic have a very favorable matchup with Oklahoma City who is 28th defensively vs. the SG position over the last five games. Fournier has laid a couple eggs lately, but he's still getting the shots. The Magic being back home should make some of those start to fall and he's got at least a decent upside for the cost.
Forwards
Khris Middleton (DK: $6,400 FD: $6,600 Y! $26)
Milwaukee's Khris Middleton is that type of glue guy you need in cash games to get you that guaranteed 28-30 point night. That's been Middleton's floor- and unfortunately ceiling - for much of the past six games. The Bucks are in Detroit tonight for a game that is expected to be closer than you'd think (MIL -6.5). Middleton is going to get 12-15 field goal attempts and if he can somehow get to the line or grab some assists, we could be looking at 40+ fantasy points.
Rondae Hollis-Jefferson (DK: $4,400 FD: $4,400 Y!: $10)
The price on Rondae Hollis-Jefferson tonight is a head scratcher, like a $6 steak that doesn't seem to be that far beyond the expiration date. No, he's not injured and yes, he's getting the start at PF. Granted the Nets are on a B2B but the 24-year-old Jefferson logged just 27 minutes vs. the Celtics on Monday - the same as his backup Demarre Carroll. RHJ played well with 14 points and 9 rebounds but he should be able to up that to a double-double vs. the Chicago defense.
Michael Beasley (DK: $3,800 FD: $4,200 Y!: $10)
The Lakers could be in upset mode Tuesday vs. a Sixers team that has already lost by 16 to Denver in the first game of their West Coast (ish) road trip. If that's the case, look for another strong night from Michael Beasley who has strung together 25+ point fantasy nights in two of the last three. He played 26 minutes Sunday in the wake of Kyle Kuzma's hip injury (questionable tonight) and the Lakers would be wise to showcase Beasley with similar usage as the trade deadline approaches. Beasley is averaging 40+ fp vs. Philadelphia the last three - is that too many points to ask for again?
Centers
Jahlil Okafor ( DK: $6,100, FD: $7,200 Y! $19)
Who would've though back in October or November (or any part of the 2017/18 season) that Jahlil Okafor would be perhaps the best DFS play of the night at the C position? The injury to Anthony Davis has definitely helped his cause but you can't argue with the way Okafor has turned his career around in New Orleans. He's coming off a whopper of a 50-burger vs. San Antonio where he shot 10-12 from the field and grabbed 15 boards. That was the third game of 40 fantasy points or more for Okafor in his last four games. You have to think that continues tonight vs. the Rockets combination of Kenneth Faried (6'8"), PJ Tucker (6'6"), and Nene (old).
Jarrett Allen (DK:$5,600 FD:$6,800 Y!21)
To be up front, there's nothing on paper about Brooklyn's Jarrett Allen that says "play him" today. The Nets are on a back-to-back and Allen has really been trending down lately, failing to break 30 fantasy points in his last five games. That being said, you want to get ahead of the 50 point night before it happens - not after. The one good thing on paper about Allen is that he's playing a very poor Chicago team and although their coach might not even know it, Chicago is in part one of a B2B. Who knows what kind of rotation the Bulls are going to through out there, especially at the C position. Allen went for just 6 points last night vs. Boston but he did grab 10 rebounds - and perhaps best of all, played only 22 minutes. If we could combine Allen and teammate Ed Davis into the super center Edrett Davlen, he'd be a perennial all-star. But if you have to choose, go with the younger buck.
Kenneth Faried (DK: $6,300 FD: $7,400 Y! $21)
Kenneth Faried's price is slowly rising to the MC Hammer levels where we can't touch this...but it's not there yet. The Houston C has posted back-to-back double/double's and had one by halftime over the weekend. He's moved into the starting spot and responded with 12 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists on Monday. It's a favorable matchup with New Orleans who just allowed 31.75 fp to Pau Gasol in 23 minutes.
