Top NBA Plays 1/29| Stock-ing Up
DFS is like the stock market in a way. It's important to examine ownership volume, recent trends, and ceiling potential. Unlike Game Stop, however, when we get a hot tip on Bismack Biyombo ($OMBO) the only moon we're hitting is 4 points and 3 rebounds.
Either way, it's a nice 10-game slate tonight with four tilts pushing the 230 betting total. Let's take from the sharks and give to the minnows.
Today's NBA Matchups
Hawks (-4) @ Wizards , O/U 234, 7:00 PM ET
We're expecting some points here, with two of the top 10 teams in pace as well as Washington's 2nd worst defensive efficiency.
Pacers (-3.5) @ Hornets, O/U 222, 7:00 PM ET
Domantas Sabonis was on the injury report when these teams met on Wednesday (IND 116 - CHA 106) and of course, ended up having a triple double (56fp). Malcolm Brogdon (46fp) did slightly above projection but Doug McDermott killed it with 34fp.
Cavs (-1) @ Knicks , O/U 208, 7:30 PM ET
Not a lot of points expected here. Cleveland is the 2nd lowest scoring team and the Knicks have the #7 defense. NYK is 29th vs. the C though, and Andre Drummond is coming off 25/17 and 23/16 the last two.
Bucks (-7) @ Pelicans, O/U 230, 7:30 PM ET
It's a Jrue Holiday 🔪Revenge Game🔪 as he spent the last 7 years with New Orleans. With a pace boost, a favorable matchup, and a couple of good games in a row can Zion Williamson ($7.6k) get his second fantasy 🍔50 Burger🍔of the season?
Lineup notes: Lonzo Ball (ankle) is questionable.
Kings @ Raptors (-5.5), O/U 229.5, 7:30 PM ET
Sacramento has shown some improved defense over the last two, holding the Knicks to 94 and Orlando to 107 points. This is either the easiest 'under' bet ever, or the Raptors break that recent trend and put up some points.
Clippers @ Magic (-3.5), O/U 213, 8:00 PM ET
Orlando looked incredibly sloppy in their 14 point loss to the Kings on Wednesday. They have a get right game against a Clippers team missing Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, and Patrick Beverley for a 3rd straight game.
Nets (-9) @ Thunder, O/U 231.5, 8:00 PM ET
Even though OKC beat Phoenix on Wednesday, this one could easily #getugly as the Thunder are just 1-5 at home on the year and the Nets seem to be coming together with a 3-game win streak.
Sixers (-7) @ Timberwolves, O/U 224, 8:00 PM ET
It looks like a Joel Embiid night as Minnesota is last in the league vs. the C position. That being said, Embiid obviously is a game time decision (back) and might not play in what should be a very winnable game for Philadelphia even shorthanded.
Nuggets (-4) @ Spurs, O/U 222, 8:30 PM ET
This should be a good game to watch as the Nuggets have won five straight, but also wrap up a 5-game road swing though. The Spurs beat Boston on Wednesday, but to no fault of their own, they're just too balanced for DFS purposes. Five San Antonio players had at least a dozen vs. the C's.
Mavericks @ Jazz (-3.5), O/U 222, 9:00 PM ET
Utah won this matchup 116-104 on Wednesday, even without Donovan Mitchell who is in concussion protocol. The Mavs had no answer for Rudy Gobert, who went for 29 & 20 (68fp).
Tonight's Point Guard / Shooting Guard Notables
Bradley Beal DK $10.2k | FD $10.5k
Beal shot an insane 37 (!) times last game - and on a back-to-back albeit without Russell Westbrook in the lineup. Pretty solid go-back-to game vs. a Hawks team that allowed a 31/8/15 line to James Harden (OT) but also 20/7/8 to Reggie Jackson, the last two SGs they've faced.
Trae Young DK $9.1k | FD $10.6k
That's crazy DK pricing for Young, who had a 78fp night vs. the Wizards last season and has gone for 50+ fp the last five games he's played. Atlanta has a boatload of guys on the injury report as well and if they all sit (long shot) it's a to the moon boost for Young.
Fred VanVleet DK $7.5k | FD $8.3k
If oddsmakers thought that the Kings had turned things around on defense, they wouldn't have posted this betting total at nearly 230. Fred VanVleet had 47 fp on Wednesday even with Pascal Siakam back in the lineup and even shooting a Jeff Healey-like 3-17 from the field.
Reggie Jackson DK $6.7k | FD $5.8
It might be time to sell on Reg for that DK price, but you have to go back to the well on FD don't you? The Clippers are on the back to back with Jackson playing 37 minutes last night, but he's also averaged 42 fp in the two games that Leonard, George, and Beverley have missed.
Jordan Clarkson DK $6.4k | FD $5.8
If Mitchell sits again with a concussion this becomes a 🔒Lock Spot🔒, especially on FD, right? Clarkson launched 21 times vs. Dallas on Wednesday, en route to his second 45+ game over the last three vs. the Mavs. Once again, it's all about the #Mitchuation however.
Tonight's SF / PF Notables
John Collins DK $7.2k | FD $7.8k
Zion Williamson faced very little resistance in shooting 12-16 from the field on Wednesday vs. the Washington front court. That lines up nicely for John Collins at the PF spot in a game with a betting total climbing to 234 and with the Hawks possibly down a couple of guys.
Domantas Sabonis DK $9.2k | FD $9k
He might as well be a Goonie because Sabonis is going to get you your chunk tonight. He's hit 50+ fp three straight times vs. the Hornets, including a 22/11/10 line on Wednesday.
Marvin Bagley III DK $5.8k | FD $6
There are signs of Marvin Bagley III "getting it" over the past few games. He's played with previous unseen energy in grabbing double digit rebounds in three of the last four and having a couple 20+ point games in the last five. Toronto has allowed 19 boards to Sabonis and 18 to Giannis over their last three games.
Isaac Okoro DK $3.9k | FD $4.2
There aren't many guys not named Royce O'Neale that play this many minutes for this price. If Isaac Okoro was in an Office Space interview, they'd say "what is it exactly you do here" because he's logged 34+ minutes in 6 of the last 8 yet hasn't broken 30 fp over that span. His best outing over that stretch did come against tonight's opponent the Knicks though, going for 13 points, 4 assists, 2 rebounds, and 2 blocks.
Tonight's Center Position Notables
Andre Drummond DK $8.6k | FD $9.4k
The Knicks have a solid defense and this betting total is just 208, but Andre Drummond is on a roll right now. He had 23/16 in a revenge game vs. the Pistons last time out, but also 25/17 vs. the Lakers the game prior. The one spot New York struggles against is the C position, ranking 29th.
Rudy Gobert DK $7.5k | FD $8.7k
You can take a bevy of angles on Rudy Gobert tonight - he'll never repeat the 68fp he had against the Mavs on Wednesday, Dallas will change their game plan, his usage will go down if Mitchell plays, etc. That's still a nice DK price for a dude who has grabbed 39 rebounds the last two games.
Al Horford DK $5.9k | FD $5.5k
To quote the great @sixsense from the LineStar chat, Al Horford has 🍼Baby Energy🍼 after dropping 21 & 11 vs. Deandre Ayton and the Suns on Wednesday. That would normally be a one and done, but bigs vs. Brooklyn is a thing as they rank 25th vs. the C position and served up a couple 🍔50 Burgers🍔 to Bam Adebayo and Andre Drummond over the past week.
