Top NBA Plays 1/31 | Super Closeout
It's Super Bowl weekend and the last day of January. The NBA has given us a 7-gamer tonight that is headlined by the Lakers playing their first game at the Staples Center since the passing of legend Kobe Bryant. All the betting totals are in the 220s tonight, so there looks to be some points scored. Let's get after it.
Tonight's DFS Headlines
Raptors @ Pistons
Toronto has won 9 in a row but will be playing on the back-to-back after a tougher than expected 115-109 win over the Cavs on Thursday. All 5 Raptors starters logged over 32 minutes in that game and Toronto was already a bit thin with Marc Gasol (hamstring) and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson (ankle) missing the last game with injuries.
Bulls @ Nets
Chicago's defense has struggled horribly vs. front court players, ranking 30th in dVp against the PF and 28th vs. the C. That has stretched to the SF spot as well though, as the position has scored 33+ fp in 4 of the last 5. The Nets are about as bad defensively vs. back court players though.
Mavs @ Rockets
No Luka Doncic (ankle) for Dallas tonight, which gives Kristaps Porzingis a 21 fp boost.
Grizzlies @ Pelicans
A great game to target with a betting total up there at 241.5. New Orleans has put up 120+ in 5 of their last 7.
Nuggets @ Bucks
The Bucks have won 9 in a row, five of those by 20+ points. Giannis Antetokounmpo (shoulder) sat out on Tuesday and Khris Middleton responded with a 51/10/6 stat line.
Thunder @ Suns
OKC has won the last 7 games in this series and put up 126 points on the Suns back on December 20th. The Thunder have won 6 of their last 7 overall.
Trail Blazers @ Lakers
Does LeBron James have a Kobe-like 60 point game in the Lakers 1st game after the death of Bryant? Damian Lillard has an amazing 33 three-pointers in his last four games. Will he spoil the moment?
Guards
LeBron James DK $10.3k | FD $11.2k
I would think tonight would be a must play for LeBron James, as he has the potential to do something memorable in Kobe's honor. Does he put up 81 as an homage? James' numbers speak for themselves, this is bigger than stats.
Dillon Brooks DK $6k | FD $5.6k
The betting total for Memphis / New Orleans is 241 tonight, which makes Dillon Brooks a great play. Brooks fired up 25 shots en route to a 31 point night vs. the Pelicans 11 days ago. He has also gone for 24+ in 3 of the last 4, Brooks also gets a 3% usage increase with Jaren Jackson (suspended), Marko Guduric (suspension), and Brandon Clarke (undisclosed) out of the lineup.
Dennis Schroder DK $6.6k | FD $6k
Dennis Schroder is on a nice little run right now, scoring 21+ real points in six straight games. The Suns rank 26th dVp against the SG and 15th vs. the PG. Schroder had a 24/9/6 line vs. Phoenix on December 20th, with a +/- of +19. He'll see plenty of time tonight.
Forwards
Michael Porter, Jr. DK $5.4k | FD $4.8k
You play three point shooters against the Bucks, and Michael Porter, Jr. is hitting long range shots at a a 44% clip this season. The big question is if he can break the 25 minute barrier off the bench, as Denver is a +10 point underdog in Milwaukee. Porter played 25 minutes last night which should keep ownership down.
Trevor Ariza DK $5k | FD $4.3k
Tonight's game at the Staples Center is also going to be an emotional one for Trevor Ariza who went to Westchester (L.A.) High School and played with Kobe and the Lakers from 2007-2009. Ariza has two 21 real point games in his three with Portland, and the Trail Blazers are also going to be missing Carmelo Anthony (personal) tonight.
Kristaps Porzingis DK $6.8k | FD $6.4k
Kristaps Porzingis seems to be priced way too low considering the Mavericks will be without Luka Doncic tonight and in a fast-paced game with Houston (O/U 235). Tim Hardaway Jr. is also battling lower back stiffness, which gives Porzingis a great chance at breaking the 30 minute barrier for the first time since returning from a knee injury.
Center
Jarrett Allen DK $6.1k | FD $6.3k
The Bulls are allowing 52 fp/48 to the C position, which ranks last in the league. Even though he's in a rotation with DeAndre Jordan, Jarrett Allen is seeing more minutes lately with 30+ in 3 of 5. One of those was a 20 point, 15 rebound night vs. Detroit (in OT). The Bulls have given up a dozen rebounds to centers over their last two games.
