Top NBA Plays 1/8 |Blowout the Candles?
It's a 9-game slate tonight which, on paper, sounds great. The Magic are favored by 10 over Washington, the Jazz by 11 over the Knicks, Milwaukee by 13 against Golden State and Houston is in a potential blowout spot vs. the Hawks, which shrinks this card considerably.
It raises the debatable question about how to attack these seemingly lopsided games? Do you follow the approach that no blowouts are a given? Do you say that star players are going to get theirs no matter the court time? Do you attack bench players in these mismatches? If anything, these types of David vs. Goliath games actually expand the player pool, adding more strategy to the mix. Whether that is good or bad is still up in the air though.
On to the card....
Tonight's DFS Headlines
Spurs @ Celtics
This is a 'flip-flop' game as the Spurs are coming off a win vs. the Bucks and Boston somehow lost to the Wizards last game. Kemba Walker must have gotten into some real bad Thai food because he's missed last 3 games for the Celtics and his status is still unknown for tonight.
Raptors @ Hornets
Charlotte is somehow a +3.5 home underdog despite Toronto being on a back-to-back and missing Pascal Siakam, Marc Gasol, Norman Powell, and now Fred VanVleet. Hornets could be a good target here despite the betting total being just 209.
Heat @ Pacers
Another low scoring game on paper is Miami visiting Indiana with the #11 and #10 defenses overall. Everybody thought their last meeting was going to be lower scoring though and it ended up being a 113-112 Heat win on December 27th.
Wizards @ Magic
Washington had been showing improved defense, holding three of the last six opponents to 107 points or less including the Celtics scoring just 94 on Monday. Each of the past six games have been at home for the Wizards though and they have allowed 119+ in 5 of the last 6 going away.
Rockets @ Hawks
This is definitely a game to target tonight, as the Rockets took the first meeting by an eye-popping score of 158-111. The betting total is at 235.5 for tonight.
Nuggets @ Mavericks
Ladies and gentleman we have a Nikola Jokic sighting after the Nuggets' big man scored 47 points on Monday, albeit against Atlanta. Despite being priced above $12k, Luka Doncic has still hit 6X the last two after posting consecutive triple-doubles.
Bulls @ Pelicans
New Orleans has found their defensive clamps, holding 4 of the last 9 opponents to 100 points or less and keeping high scoring Houston at just 112 over that span. The Pelicans have allowed 120+ in 2 of the last 3, but Chicago is the worst FG shooting team in the league.
Knicks @ Jazz
Do the Knicks lose some of their back-to-back targeting since they lost by 30 to the Lakers last night in what ended up being a scrimmage that 19,000 people attended? The Jazz are in a big ๐ฃBlowout Game๐ฃspot as winners of six straight and -11 favorites here.
Bucks @ Warriors
Speaking of ๐ฃBlowout Game ๐ฃpotential, the Bucks are -13.5 favorites at Golden State tonight. Then again, the Spurs did just shoot over 50% from the field vs. Milwaukee and beat them by over 20 points.
Guards
Terry Rozier DK $6.7k | FD $6.7k
It's been Terry Rozier taking people to church lately, averaging 29 ppg so far in the month of January. Rozier has 29, 28, and 30 real points the last three games while adding 6+ rebounds in two games and 6+ assists in two others. The matchup, on paper, doesn't look the best against Toronto, but the Raptors are on 0 days rest. This could be the last time we see Rozier under $7k for a while.
Alec Burks DK $5.8k | FD $5.7k
The Warriors have the 2nd best pace boost of the night against Milwaukee and could get down by a bunch as +13.5 home underdogs. Both of those work in Alec Burks' favor, as he has a 27 and a 28 real point night over his last 4 games. The three pointer is always available vs. Milwaukee, and Burks has shot 50% from beyond the arc the last four.
Kevin Huerter DK $6.2k | FD $5.7k
Even Atlanta fans hadn't realized how solid Kevin Huerter has been playing over the last four games. The SG has 19+ real points in 3 of the last 4 while also adding 4+ assists in 3 of those games and 6+ rebounds in each. Huerter has hit 10 of his last 15 three point shots and will be up against a Houston back court missing Russell Westbrook's defense and with a betting total of 235.5.

Does the Ish Smith ($5.8k) fire get extinguished tonight vs.the Orlando defense and with Bradley Beal potentially back in the lineup?
Kemba Walker ($8.1k) would have a good comeback game vs. the Spurs #25 ranked defense vs. the PG.
Forwards
Aaron Gordon DK $6.2k | FD $6.2k
It's always a good idea to attack the Washington defense, especially on the road. Aaron Gordon has a great chance to be the benefactor tonight vs. the banged up Wizards' front court. Gordon is finding his rebounding stride after missing two games with an Achilles, grabbing 12 and 11 boards the last two. He also has double digit points in all three since his return.
Miles Bridges DK $5.1k | FD $5.1k
It's just a great matchup for Charlotte at home vs. a fatigued Toronto team that is also missing basically their entire core besides Kyle Lowry. Miles Bridges can find great value at this price tonight, as he's gone for 34+ fp in 3 of the last 4. Bridges has double digit points in 3 of 4 and has gone for 10+ rebounds in 2 of the last 4.
Brandon Ingram DK $8.8k | FD $9.3k
The Bulls rank 25th defensively vs. the SF position which bodes well for Brandon Ingram coming off a 57fp night last time out. Ingram's 35/8/5 night came against a good Jazz defense, due largely in part to Jrue Holiday missing the game with an elbow strain. Ingram will get another nice usage boost with Holiday again out of the lineup.

Serge Ibaka ($7.8k) isn't a bad slot at F, even though he is starting at C for a very thin Raptors team that is up against the struggling post play of Charlotte.
Center
Clint Capela DK $7.8k | FD $7.6k
There's a ton to like about Clint Capela tonight, the first being his price at under $8k. The Rockets are also up against an Atlanta team that just allowed a 47 real point night to Nikola Jokic, who had been struggling most of the year. Capela himself is coming off a big game with 30 points and 14 rebounds. The Rockets have had a ton of rest not playing since January 3rd and are also resting Russell Westbrook tonight for the visit to Oklahoma City tomorrow night. This looks like a ๐จHammer Time๐จ play.

Nikola Vucevic is a double-double machine but he hasn't broken the 48 fp barrier since December 20th, which at $9k isn't much value
