Top NBA Plays 1/8 | Buzzer Beaters Be Gone
Last night was an interesting one (or un-interesting the way you look at it) as the closest margin of victory was 10 points. James Harden was 'held' to 32 points and the perfect lineup featured cameos from Josh Hart, Kenneth Faried, and Monte Morris. So many blowout games can be frustrating for DFS players because it's like David Fizdale coaches every team and you're just pulling usage out of a hat.
It's national bubble bath day so let's soak it in and see what we can find out about Tuesday's 8-game card:
Tonight's Headline Games
The best spot to find another blowout situation is when the Philadelphia 76ers (-9) host the Washington Wizards. The Wizards have allowed 4 C's in perfect lineups the last 30 days so watch out for a big night from Joel Embiid ($11,000)
The Denver Nuggets have to go on the road for the second straight night as they visit the Miami Heat. Does that destroy value for players like Nikola Jokic ($9,800) and Jamal Murray ($6,700)?
The Sacramento Kings (-3.5) are also in a B2B, although they were able to limit minutes in a 16 point win over the Orlando Magic. Even so, the Phoenix Suns players have potential for a big night by playing in their 7th straight home game. Does that make Devin Booker ($8,700) and/or Deandre Ayton ($8,100) worth the price?
It might actually be a good night to stay away from Golden State Warriors (-18) starters such as Steph Curry ($10,000) and Kevin Durant ($10,100). GSW is playing the Knicks who are not only bad, but in a B2B after a 10 point loss to the Trail Blazers.
The Minnesota Timberwolves are also a team to watch as they debut 32-year-old interim coach Ryan Saunders after Tom Thibodeau's firing. Saunders gets to do battle with the Oklahoma City Thunder (-8) right out of the gate.
Guards
Jordan Clarkson (DK: $5,000, FD: $5,500 Y! $19)
Jordan Clarkson is in a reverse blowout spot as the Cavs are +10 point underdogs at home vs. Indiana. The Pacers should win this one with ease but it will be close, as Indiana saves resources for a game with Boston on Wednesday. Clarkson at the very least should get his share of shots as he has 11+ fga in 6 of 7 games. He's logged a 17, a 20, and a 19 attempt night over that span, so Clarkson is an integral part of the Cleveland offense. You like the opportunities for the price. Now if he could just add an assist or a rebound from somewhere.
Tim Hardaway, Jr. (DK: $6,600 FD: $6,300 Y! $21)
The Knicks are crazy 18 point 'dogs tonight at Golden State but somebody has to take the court for New York no matter the score. One of the reasons NYK is expected to be dominated by so much is because they are on a B2B. That being said, Tim Hardaway, Jr. logged only 26 minutes in the loss vs. Portland. Players such as Emmanuel Mudiay (34:17) and Mario Hezonja (31:14) saw regular minutes, so Hardaway should see plenty of court time. He's up against a Golden State team that is 30th vs. the SG position allowing 33.2 fppg. If it is a blowout, Hardaway will see time vs. backups and you've always got the "playing against my dad's old team" angle to explore.
Malik Beasley (DK: $3,800 FD: $4,000 Y! $14)
The Denver Nuggets tried to come back vs. Houston last night after a tough 2nd quarter but ultimately, they fell 113-125. In the process, eight Nuggets players logged 17 minutes or more, which should open up the usage for Malik Beasley tonight vs. the Heat. The Denver PG has looked more like Pam Beesly since Gary Harris returned (13 and 9 fp). Harris logged 27 minutes vs. the Rockets though and is still just three games back from a hip injury which should limit him Tuesday. Beasley had posted five straight 25+ point fantasy nights prior to Harris' return including 39 and 43 point games. With bigger minutes this value becomes even bigger.
Forwards
Justin Jackson (DK: $3,800, FD; $4,400 Y! $12 )
Josh Jackson (DK: $4,900, FD: $4,100 Y! $13)
J. Jackson is in line for a big night in the Sacramento vs. Phoenix game. It's just not known if that's Josh Jackson of the Suns or Justin Jackson of the Kings. With Sacramento playing in a B2B, that could really go either way. The Kings' Jackson has great value with Bogdan Bogdanovic playing 32 minutes vs. the Magic on Monday. Justin Jackson is seeing an increased role in the Sacramento offense with a 28 point and 11 point scoring night over his last two. Justin Jackson is $1,100 less than Josh Jackson but Josh has a 33 and a 36 point fantasy night over his last three games. Sacramento is also 29th vs. the SF and PF. Roster them both?
Andrew Wiggins (DK: $6,000, FD: $6,500 Y! $22 )
Does Andrew Wiggins finally start playing like his former #1 pick potential now that he's out of Tom Thibodeau's reign of terror - or do we see a regression? Ironically enough, right before Thibs got canned Wiggins was displaying some positive consistent upside. He had field goal attempts of 23, 19, 18, and 21 the last four games. Wiggins has a 40 point fantasy night and a 39 point outing in his last three. Perhaps the biggest downfall of Thibodeau's firing is that Wiggins minutes could go down. Thibs was famous for grinding players into the ground and Wiggins had logged 36+ in 5 of the last 6. Either way, Wiggins is worth a chance tonight for a rejuvenated Wolves team that is in an up-paced battle with the Thunder. All the stats point to a big night from AW but so does the 'gut.'
Centers
Luke Kornet (DK: $4,600 FD: $5,200 Y! $14)
The price should be much lower on Knicks' C, Luke Kornet, for Tuesday but he's worth a flier anyway. Kornet's production has gone down a bit the last two games as Enes Kanter didn't like being moved to the bench and remembered he was in a contract year. Kanter has logged 39, 47, and 37 point fantasy nights the last three games. The Knicks are in part two of a B2B, however, and Kanter logged nearly 30 minutes of court time vs. the Trail Blazers compared to just 18 for Kornet. The 23-year-old Kornet should see a lot of usage tonight as the Knicks wrap up a six game road trip. Why not get the 2nd year player some experience in what is likely a huge Golden State win? Because you're David Fizdale, that's why.
Mike Muscala ( DK: $3,400, FD: $3,500 Y! $10)
Philadelphia matches up very well against Washington as evidenced by their 123-98 win in late November when the Wizards also had a healthy John Wall. These two teams play not only Tuesday, but have a B2B against each other Wednesday back in D.C. Does that mean Joel Embiid's usage is limited in tonight's contest? If so, Mike Muscala should have a productive game for the value. In that November game, Muscala had 12 points and 10 rebounds. Jimmy Butler, Ben Simmons, and Wilson Chandler are all questionable with an illness, so does Muscala somehow see 25-30 minutes of court time?
Bismack Biyombo (DK:$4,500 FD: $4,000 Y! $15)
Bismack Biyombo is in a nice spot for Charlotte on Tuesday. Cody Zeller is out for the 4th straight game and Biyombo has provided great production in his absence. Biyombo logged 30 minutes vs. Denver on January 5th and responded with a 7/10 from the field with 12 rebound outing. His production dropped last game but that was on leg two of a B2B. The Hornets play the Clippers tonight, who are allowing 37.2 fppg to C starters. As long as Willy Hernangomez doesn't steal too much production, it should be a solid outing for Biyombo for the price.
Tuesday is in the books for the Linestar DailyDribble. There are definitely some reaches, especially at the C position, but who wants to see no brainers like Joel Embiid and Karl-Anthony Towns suggested every night? 10 games are on the schedule for what is turning into a very busy NBA week, which is going to be the norm now that college football is done, the NFL is winding down, and pro hoops are taking center stage.
