Top NBA Plays 1/9 |Cue the Skylar Grey
Get the "Coming Home" tribute videos ready because Russell Westbrook returns to Oklahoma City tonight as part of a 4-game NBA slate. Houston is on the back-to-back, but Westbrook rested last night solely for this moment. It's gonna get interesting, but let's see what else is on tap for tonight's card:
Tonight's DFS Headlines
Cavaliers @ Pistons
These two teams are very familiar with each other after playing to a 115-113 Pistons victory on Tuesday. Andre Drummond ($10.2k) had a 20/20 game last time out and the win for Detroit came at the end of a 6-game road trip. They should be fresher and better tonight.
Celtics @ 76ers
No Joel Embiid for the Sixers tonight as anybody with Twitter knows why (scroll ahead if you dare). Al Horford ($6k) and Tobias Harris ($7.3k) both get a 9fp boost without the big man. Kemba Walker returned for the Celtics last game and should be fresh after playing just 18 minutes and getting ejected "for the first time in his life."
Trail Blazers @ Timberwolves
The Minnesota defense had been improving, holding 5 of 6 opponents to 104 points or less. The last time out they gave up 119 to the Grizzlies though, as Ja Morant (25) and Dillon Brooks (28) combined for 53 points in the Memphis back court. That bodes well for the Damian Lillard ($8.9) and CJ McCollum ($6.8) combo tonight.
Rockets @ Thunder
It's the Russell Westbrook ($8.4k) ๐ Homecoming Game๐ as he returns to Oklahoma City for the 1st time as a visiting player. Westbrook even sat out last night as the Rockets won in Atlanta. The 122-115 game was closer than some thought it would be, and thus both James Harden ($12.2k) and Clint Capela ($7.5k) both logged 36+ minutes.
Guards
Russell Westbrook DK $8.4k | FD $8.7k
The ownership isn't exactly going to be low but that's a d-Con price for Westbrook because it is bait. He's back at Oklahoma City and off a night's rest while Houston played Atlanta last night. Westbrook has 21+ shots in 8 straight, that could double tonight.
Derrick Rose DK $6.5k | FD $6.6k
Derrick Rose is coming off a 39fp night vs. Cleveland on Tuesday - he has the same, if not better, matchup tonight as the home and home shifts back to Detroit (even though Rose averages 3.5 points less at home). Rose gets a 5% usage boost with all the injuries the Pistons are dealing with right now and basically, there aren't many options for scoring left. Rose is good for 20+ real points tonight, it's his peripherals that will decide the value.
CJ McCollum DK $6.8k | FD $6.7k
CJ McCollum has scored 18 or less real points in the last three games but that could come to an end tonight vs. a Minnesota defense that just allowed 53 points to the Grizzlies back court on Tuesday. McCollum is still getting his shots (16+ in each of the last 10 games) it's just that he's lost his stroke from beyond the arc, going 2 for his last 12. Minnesota is 18th in the league in opponents' three point shooting percentage, so a couple more should fall tonight.

Dennis Schroder ($6.1k) is the least expensive option of the Thunder back court that has a great matchup with Houston on the back-to-back. OKC gets a real nice pace boost of 5.71 in this one.
James Harden ($12.2k) probably won't hit value tonight as he takes a back seat to Westbrook...maybe. Harden shot 4-20 from three point range last night vs. Atlanta.
Forwards
Robert Covington DK $5.7k | FD $6k
Robert Covington had a ceiling game last time the T'Wolves played at home, scoring 20 points and grabbing 10 rebounds en route to a 47 fp night. There's a chance for close to a repeat of that, as Minnesota's opponent Portland ranks 29th defensively vs. the PF spot (Carmelo Anthony "D"). Despite having the mountain that is Hassan Whiteside in the middle, the Trail Blazers are 27th in the league in total rebounding rate. Covington has also been getting open looks beyond the arc, launching 28 the last three games. These are also becoming 'Showcase Games' for Covington, as his name continues to fly in trade rumors.
Josh Richardson DK $5.6k | FD $5.9k
No Joel Embiid tonight, which gives Josh Richardson only 2% usage boost but any increase is positive on just a 4-game slate and at this price. There are other reasons to like Richardson tonight though. The matchup with Boston's top 5 defense wouldn't seem ideal, but the Celtics are on leg two of the back-to-back and didn't look so great giving up 129 points at home vs. the Spurs last night. Boston also struggles vs. the SF, allowing almost 40fp nights to Jordan McRae and Miles Bridges over the lats 5 games. Richardson has had the last 2 nights to rest, and has gone for 20+ real points in 2 of the last 3.
Boston has had their struggles vs. the SF position as of late. Being on the b2b doesn't help either.
Svi Mykhailiuk DK $4.2k | FD $4.2k
Svi Mykhailiuk has a great chance for 6X value tonight for the simple fact that he's priced so low. Detroit is familiar with Cleveland after beating them on Tuesday and the Pistons are also playing their first home game since the day after Christmas. Griffin, Morris, and Kennard continue to be out for Detroit, which has allowed Mykhailiuk at least 30 minutes in 4 of the last 5. He was able to get off 10 three-pointers vs. the Cavs on Tuesday, no reason to think that doesn't continue back at home - where a couple more might even fall.
๐๐๐ Other Likes / Dislikes ๐๐๐
Carmelo Anthony ($6.6k) has a favorable matchup vs. the Minnesota defense that ranks 24th vs. the PF position over the last 5 games. 'Melo dropped 44fp last game at Toronto, his highest point total since December 16th.
Center
Clint Capela DK $7.5k | FD $7.7k
A lot of people will be jumping off the Clint Capela bandwagon today and probably with good reason as he logged 36 minutes last night vs. Atlanta. For that price though, the man that has put up 60 and 59 fp the last two is worth a flier. All eyes will be on Russ Westbrook tonight in his return to OKC and the Thunder are in the top half vs. the C position. The Thunder are a big man down with Nerlens Noel being out though. Even so, Capela is averaging 26/18 the last two games and is an interesting play if you don't have money for the two big fellas tonight.
๐๐ Other Likes / Dislikes ๐๐
Hassan Whiteside ($9.3) and Andre Drummond ($10.2) are a toss-up tonight. Whiteside probably has the better matchup vs. Minnesota and has put up better fp #'s lately (55+ in 3 of 5). Drummond had a 20/20 game when he played Cleveland Tuesday though.
Steven Adams ($6.9) doesn't have bad value for a Thunder team facing Houston on the back-to-back. He should get as many minutes as he wants with both Danilo Gallinari and Nerlens Noel out tonight too.
