Top NBA Plays 2/26 | Optimistic Look at the 3 Game Slate
You pull up today's NBA schedule and see there are only three games. The first inkling of a DFS player might be to get a little bummed out but remember - everybody is playing the same three games. These small cards should be looked at as a fun challenge. There are 50 (give or take) players in action tonight, it SHOULD be easy to find the ones who are going to give you ROI.
Tonight's Headline Games
This is something you can't say that often, but the New York Knicks could actually put together a winning streak. NYK beat the Spurs by 12 on Sunday and host the Orlando Magic (-7.5) on Tuesday.
The Boston Celtics have dropped back-to-back games to the Bucks (understandable) and Bulls (what!) and must try to right the ship with a trip to face the Toronto Raptors (-4).
Seeds #2 and #3 in the West meet up when the Oklahoma City Thunder visit the Denver Nuggets.
Guards
Jamal Murray (DK: $6,000 FD: $6,800 Y! $24) Ownership: 32.72%
Saturday vs. the Thunder, the Kings backcourt of De'Aaron Fox and Buddy Hield posted over 90 combined fantasy points. It should be another fast paced game as OKC travels to Denver Tuesday which makes Jamal Murray a solid play. Of course Malik Beasley ($4,200), Gary Harris ($4,500), and Isaiah Thomas ($3,800) are all going to want theirs too. Still, Murray should be guaranteed at least 30 and has the most confident chance at 40+ fantasy points.
Emmanuel Mudiay (DK: $5,000 FD: $5,500 Y! $18) Ownership 7.23%
With 3 games on the schedule, it's time to take some chances. Emmanuel Mudiay is a chance with a (possible) upside today. First off, he's only two games back from missing a dozen with a shoulder injury. Mudiay has put up good scoring numbers in his return to the lineup, posting 15 in 26 minutes vs. Minnesota and 19 in 19 minutes Sunday vs. the Spurs. The Magic rank 25th defensively vs. the starting PG spot and Mudiay should be back in game shape enough to see 25-30 minutes - especially with the way David Fizdale uses a dartboard to make his rotation.
D.J. Augustin (DK: $4,100, FD; $4,800 Y!:$12 ) Ownership 11.7%
There's some nice salary relief from D.J. Augustin and you can't argue a starting PG for that price. That's especially true when the point guard is up against Dennis Smith, Jr. and the Knicks. New York has been a bit better vs. the PG lately, but still over the past three games Trae Young went for 44 fp, Jeff Teague 31 and Brynn Forbes 28 against them. Augustin has gone for 30+ fantasy points in 2 of his last 3 road games so he should be solid at MSG.
Forwards
Jaylen Brown (DK: $4,600 FD: $4,900 Y! $18) Ownership 11.2%
There's a decent chance Boston gets blown out at Toronto. The line is only TOR -3.5 mostly because Kawhi Leonard is a GTD. The Celtics might even let it happen as they go back home to face Portland tomorrow. In that case, blowout minutes should be allotted to Jaylen Brown, who has played well lately, regardless. Brown has scored in double figures and also has five games of 5+ rebounds over that span. That production came with breaking the 25 minute barrier just three times. Let's see what he can do with nearly 30 minutes of court time.
Noah Vonleh (DK: $4,000 FD: $4,000 Y!: $14) Ownership 4.64%
Noah Vonleh of the Knicks is an intriguing GPP play for no other reason than everybody is loving Mitchell Robinson after he's posted 45+ fantasy point nights in 2 of the last 4 games. NYK coach David Fizdale is going to take the dreams of those DFS players and smash them into the ground, almost guaranteed. DeAndre Jordan is also doubtful vs. Orlando. Maybe Orlando blows out the Knicks and Vonleh gets minutes vs. Not Nikola Vucevic?
Al Horford (DK: $6,300, FD: $8,000 Y! $29) Ownership 31.08%
You have to like where Al Horford is at within the Celtics offense right now. In the last four games he has field goal attempts of 15, 21, 12, and 16. Horford is also killing it on the boards, with two games of 14+ rebounds over that span. Toronto has bolstered their front line with Marc Gasol but over the past 5 games Nikola Vucevic has a 53 point fantasy night vs. the Raptors while DeAndre Jordan grabbed 18 rebounds in a game. If this game does indeed stay close, expect a big night from Horford.
Center
Nikola Jokic (DK: $10,000 FD: $11,000 Y!: $50) Ownership 43.62%
The game plan for most people tonight seems to be throw Nikola Jokic in the lineup, get your 50-60 points, and essentially make this an 8 (DK) or 9 (FD) player card. It's not a bad strategy Cotton. In the last six games the Denver big man has five 20+ scoring outings, has at least 20 rebounds in each, and has four 8+ assist games. Versus OKC in December Jokic went for a 24/15/9 night.
Utility Player
Nikola Vucevic (DK:$9,600 FD:$10,200 Y!43) Ownership 28.42%
Tonight's lineup leaves $10,000 and with some maneuvering with maybe the Mudiay or Vonleh pick, you can get Russell Westbrook ($11,000) or Paul George ($10,400) into the game. As it stands though, the Orlando C Nikola Vucevic should go for at least 50 vs. the Knicks. A lot of that depends on if New York keeps the game competitive, but back on November 18th the Magic beat the Knicks by 14 and Vucevic had 28/10/9 in 31 minutes.
There are not a lot of games tonight but they are pretty good, on paper at least. We're back to a fully loaded 11 game card on Wednesday.
