Top NBA Plays 2/6 | Blowout Minutes or Close Game Usage?

The NBA has granted us 7 games on this Wednesday slate and heeding advice from last night's State of the Union, this card is very "diverse." For example, three of the contests have 11+ point spreads while three others are 2 points or less. That means there's something for everybody tonight no matter how you like to put together your DFS lineup.

Tonight's Headline Games

The Denver Nuggets had a 6-game winning streak snapped in a loss to the Pistons their last time out. Are they in danger of dropping two in a row at the Brooklyn Nets (+2)? When the teams met up in November, Nikola Jokic went for 37 points and 21 boards, although the Nets won by 2.

The New Orleans Pelicans have seemingly 1/2 their lineup out with injury and it's shown in the odds as the Chicago Bulls are actually favored by a point tonight at home.

The Sacramento Kings have won three straight on their current home stand including wins over the Spurs and Sixers. Do the Houston Rockets (-2.5) have the depth to keep up with the Kings' fast pace?

The San Antonio Spurs beat the Golden State Warriors by 12 back in November but DeMar DeRozan and company are 11 point underdogs in the Bay tonight.

Guards

Tim Frazier (DK: $4,100 FD: $4,100 Y! $10)

Somebody has to score for New Orleans tonight vs. the Bulls and why can't that somebody be Tim Frazier? The Pelicans PG should see solid minutes vs. the Bulls and he's posted two 30+ point fantasy nights over his last four games. If you like Jahlil Okafor having a big game back in his hometown of Chicago, one of the guys feeding him the ball is a nice corollary play.

Buddy Hield (DK: $6,700 FD: $6,700 Y! $25)

Oddsmakers have set the O/U between Sacramento and Houston at 233.5 which should mean a lot of opportunities for Buddy Hield in this fast paced affair. Hield has a great matchup with James Harden and the Rockets defense that has given up 45+ fantasy points to SG in 3 of the last 4 nights. Hield got off 21 shots vs. Philadelphia two games ago and finished with a 34 point night. Expect the launching to continue on Wednesday.

Hield should have a great night in a high scoring affair

Malcolm Brogdon (DK: $5,700, FD; $6,200 Y!:$21 )

Malcolm Brogdon is another one of those Bucks players that are almost religiously going to get you 25-30 fantasy points every night. Brogdon has at least 25 fantasy points in eight straight games. Milwaukee is a huge 11 point favorite on Wednesday but Brogdon has had back-to-back 30+ fantasy point nights while playing just 26 and 27 minutes. He gets his shots too when he's on the court, with at least a dozen attempts in 5 of 6 games.

Forwards

Tim Hardaway, Jr. (DK: $4,900 FD: $6,100 Y! $17)

For less than $5,000 Tim Hardaway, Jr. is worth a flier as he makes his Mavericks debut. Hardaway was logging solid minutes with the Knicks, but it's hard to get comfortable in your role with David Fizdale's constant rotation juggling around you. Now he will step into Wesley Matthews' spot which still should see great usage but hopefully with increased production. Dallas has Charlotte playing in part two of a B2B so it should be a comfortable night for Hardaway in his new surroundings.

Lauri Markkanen (DK: $6,900 FD: $7,800 Y!: $31)

Oddsmakers are tempting you to take Chicago at home on Wednesday as 1 point favorites over the Pelicans. The Bulls have been downright atrocious, going 6-20 at home this season but that hasn't stopped Lauri Markkanen from putting up great fantasy numbers. He had 30 points and 9 boards last time out vs. Charlotte - and that was 3 days ago, so Markkanen is well rested. The Chicago SF has put up rebounding numbers of 15, 19, 13, and 9 in his last four games which should continue vs. a Pelicans team that has Julius Randle, Anthony Davis, and Nikola Mirotic all on the injury list.

Markkanen has had a nice floor lately

Demarcus Cousins (DK: $6,800 FD: $7,500 Y!: $25)

People will be thinking that Spurs / Warriors is going to be a blowout now that DeMar DeRozan (rest) and LaMarcus Aldridge (rest) join Derrick White as out for the game. You never know with the Spurs however, they could hang in there nicely. Even in a blowout, Golden State is still trying to work Demarcus Cousins into game shape considering he's played just 7 games this season. 25+ minutes vs. San Antonio's backups sounds like another 40+ point fantasy night for the Boogie Man.

Center

Willie Cauley-Stein ( DK: $5,500, FD: $5,900 Y! $19)

Sacramento's Willie Cauley-Stein is available for almost $2,000 less than Jahlil Okafor, who is another solid play at the C position heading back to Chicago. Cauley-Stein should be able to have nice production in a high scoring game when the Kings host the Rockets. The Kings have a sizable advantage up front against Kenneth Faried, PJ Tucker, and Nene which also makes Sacramento's Marvin Bagley III ($5,800) a top play here. The Rockets are 28th defensively vs. the C position.

It should be a big offensive night at the Golden 1 Center

Utility Player

Kemba Walker (DK:$8,800 FD:$9,300 Y!33)

Tonight's lineup leaves $9,400 available for a utility player. That leaves Kevin Durant and Steph Curry in play but you have to like Kemba Walker's chances to stay hot. He's put up back-to-back 60+ fantasy point nights (although they were at home). Walker is kind of a contrarian play here as ownership has dropped to 5% as Charlotte is playing in part two of a B2B. It's hard to ask for another 32 point, 9 assist night, but to be honest, Walker's production doesn't drop much in a B2B.

Dark H-O-R-S-E Play of the Night

Royce O'Neale (DK: $3,500 FD: $3,700 Y! $10)

Of the three games with double digit spreads, which one has the best chance of a rout and thus have a dark horse emerge? The Suns have lost 11 games in a row and they'd be just as good of a bet as anybody to make it a dozen as they visit Utah. If a blowout happens, expect a lot of time from Royce O'Neal of the Jazz who has a miniscule 0.92% ownership. He's no stranger to ceiling games if he can get the court time, going 6-8 with 11 rebounds and 5 assists in 36 minutes on January 18th (vs. Cleveland).

It's an interesting night because you can either hammer the blowout minutes angle or the high usage close contest side of things. Thursday looks to have some options too, with six games on the schedule.
