Top NBA Plays 2/6 | Do We Even Play Trade Deadline Night?
It's NBA trade deadline day which can be very frustrating. You do an hour of research on a game only to get the Woj Bomb on the bottom of the screen telling you Giannis has been traded to the Hawks and it's time to crumple up the paper and start over.
Today/tonight may be a whirlwind - but the good thing is everybody is in the same boat. This newsletter is researched published early in the afternoon, so take the advice with a grain of salt as the 3:00 PM EST trade deadline approaches.
Tonight's DFS Headlines
Magic @ Knicks
Is Orlando going to be a buyer or a seller today? They are in the 8 seed in the East - but have also have 5 losses in their last 6 games all by double digits. The Knicks had been playing better defense holding 3 of 4 opponents to 97 points or less - but then just game up 134 to Cleveland in OT on Monday.
Pelicans @ Bulls
This game seems like a trap as New Orleans is just a 4 point favorite on the road vs. a very banged up Chicago team. That doesn't mean it can't finish 132-129 though as the Bulls rank worst defensively vs. the PF and 3rd worst against centers.
Sixers @ Bucks
Philly was supposed to be on of the top 2-3 teams in the East this season but are in 6th place in the conference heading into tonight's game. Do we see some more changes to the Sixers roster before tonight's tip in Milwaukee?Philadelphia has already acquired Alec Burks and Glenn Robinson III from Golden State.
Spurs @ Trail Blazers
The Spurs have lost the first two on the annual Rodeo trip, both at the Staples Center. San Antonio was probably hoping the trade deadline was about two weeks from now as their 8-game road swing will go a long way in determining if the Spurs will try to keep their 21-year playoff streak going. San Antonio is 3.5 out of the 8 seed and just 8-16 in away games this year.
Rockets @ Lakers
Houston has officially gone full-time 'small ball' after the Clint Capela trade this week. Robert Covington has come to the Rockets, but who guards Anthony Davis in this game? PJ Tucker (6'5") will take the reins in the middle for Mike D'Antoni's team.
Guards
Josh Hart DK $4.9k | FD $4.7k
There should be plenty of minutes available for Josh Hart tonight as the Pelicans should absolutely dominate the Bulls. Hart has nice peripherals in the rebounding department where he has at least 7 in 5 of the last 6. Chicago is the league's 2nd worst team on the boards. Overall the Bulls have the league's best defense vs. the SG, but they also have literally 10 players on the injury report.
Coby White DK $3.8k | FD $4.2k
One thing (of many) to dislike about the Chicago coaching staff is their stubbornness. This is a team that is going nowhere, yet they still refuse to play 1st round pick Coby White more than about 25 minutes per game. With Denzel Valentine now added to the injury report and Tomas Satoransky playing with a sore ankle Jim Boylen may not have a choice. The betting total in tonight's game with the Pelicans is up there at 231.5. Teams are focusing on Zach LaVine as he has a high of 22 real points the last three games. White has the talent for an upside game in GPP tonight. The rookie took 11 three's last game and the Bad News Bulls just need to "let him play, let him play."
Rajon Rondo DK $4.1k | FD $4.5k
The Lakers have Houston tonight and the Rockets rank 30th vs. the PG position. That should mean a great night for Lebron James, but don't be surprised to see Rajon Rondo have an above average outing off the bench. Rondo had a respectable 7/4/9 line last game vs. the Spurs and had 13 points with 8 dimes the game before. 28 fp is a 7X night in this spot, very doable in a game with a betting total of 234.
Forwards
Mike Scott DK $3.5k | FD $3.5k
Believe it or not the 76ers are in a 💣Blowout Game 💣 spot tonight but on the receiving end as -9 underdogs at Milwaukee. Philadelphia also hosts Memphis tomorrow night so expect a lot of minutes from bench players like Mike Scott, who is an intriguing GPP option.. The 76ers PF hit 5 of 7 three point attempts vs. the Heat on Monday and you take 3-point shooters vs. the Bucks. There's no better time for Scott to finally break the 20 minute barrier, especially if Burks and Robinson aren't yet in the lineup and Philly being a bit shorthanded otherwise.
Brandon Ingram DK $7.6k | FD $8.2k
There's nobody on the Bulls that can guard... well anybody on the Pelicans. It's looking like a New Orleans blowout, but at the same time the spread of NOP -4.5 seems like a trap which would indicate a closer game than expected. If so, Brandon Ingram will be able to continue the success that has given him 28 and 32 real points the last two. Zion Williamson is huge chalk tonight - but is also on the injury report with a sore toe which means he'll play one minute.
Kyle Kuzma DK $5k | FD $4.5k
Houston has decided to go small with the trade of Capela so it could be a great night for Kyle Kuzma to shine. The Lakers get a slight pace boost vs. the Rockets and Kuzma has 17+ real points and 12+ rebounds in two of the last 3 games. "IF" he's not traded, Kuzma may have a sigh of relief and play a carefree game, and express gratitude to L.A. for showing faith in him.
Center
Anthony Davis DK $9.7k | FD $9.8k
He's playing through a sore shoulder, but you have to see what Anthony Davis can do when matched up with 6'5" PJ Tucker. Houston traded away their biggest inside presence in Clint Capela so we'll take a flier to see if it was a smart - or postseason ending - decision. The betting spread is just LAL -6.5 here, indicating this one should be a closer game than expected. Davis has had some very weak outings since returning from the fall that bruised his tailbone - he still has the 37 point, 16 board potential that he showed January 31st vs. Portland though.
