Top NBA Plays 2/7 | Triple Check Your Rosters Today
It's NBA trade deadline day which could play havoc for those that like to lock in their rosters early. There's already been some action leading up to publish time as the Bulls have, for some reason, acquired Otto Porter, Jr. and the Mavs have sent Harrison Barnes to Sacramento. Everything in today's LineStar Daily Dribble could change on a phone call (text) so keep a close eye on your rosters this afternoon.
Tonight's Headline Games
Of course the Los Angeles Lakers are in action on trade deadline day against the Boston Celtics. It's going to be hard to lock in any LA players early in the day, as the Lakers still try to put together a package to acquire Anthony Davis.
The Toronto Raptors visiting the Atlanta Hawks should see a lot of fantasy points (O/U 231.5). 8 of 10 starting positions between these two teams rank 23rd or worse defensively in fantasy points allowed to the opposition.
Will there be some dark horse points scored from the Memphis Grizzlies tonight? Bruno Caboclo ($3,500) and Ivan Rabb ($5,100) are a couple of the under-the-radar Memphis players that have a favorable matchup vs. the Oklahoma City Thunder defense.
Guards
Justin Holiday (DK: $5,200 FD: $5,500 Y! $14) Ownership: 13%
There's a lot to like about Justin Holiday vs. OKC on Thursday. First off, the Thunder are 30th defensively vs. the SG, giving up 34.7 fppg to starters at the position. The Thunder run a faster paced game that have Memphis at an 8.69 pace differential in this one, giving Holiday even more opportunities to shoot. He's seen 13, 16, and 13 field goal attempts the last three games as the minutes have increased to 34+ in each outing. Kyle Anderson, JaMychal Green, Garrett Temple, and Marc Gasol could all miss tonight's game for Memphis, so Holiday's usage should remain high.
CJ McCollum (DK: $7,000 FD: $7,500 Y! $27) Ownership 12.64%
He gets shots and he gets minutes, which makes Portland's CJ McCollum a high value play today vs. the Spurs. Yes, the price is creeping up there but at least you have the return on investment in knowing he's at least going to get the attempts. McCollum has seen at least 37 minutes of court time in 4 of the last 6 games and has at least 17 fga in all but one of those games. The Spurs have given up at least 36 fantasy points to 3 of the last 5 SG they've faced but McCollum looks to break the 40+ barrier for the fourth straight game.
Darren Collison (DK: $6,400, FD; $7,000 Y!:$20 ) Ownership 5.85%
Darren Collison had his streak of 20+ point games broken at two on Tuesday. That can be forgiven a bit as Indiana pounced the Lakers by 42 in that game and Collison had just 25 minutes. The numbers should return today vs. the Clippers who have allowed four 43+ point fantasy nights to the last five PG they've faced.
Forwards
Jayson Tatum (DK: $5,800 FD: $6,800 Y! $30) Ownership 18.48%
Everybody remembers Jayson Tatum's posterization and bump of LeBron James in the Eastern Conference Finals. The two meet again today but does that immortal moment help or hurt Tatum's value here? Tatum was great February 5th vs. the Cavs (42 fp) but that was with Kyrie Irving out with a hip injury. Irving is probable vs. the Lakers, but Tatum is still a solid play, as LA has allowed 30+ fp nights to four straight small forwards.
Jake Layman (DK: $3,900 FD: $4,700 Y!: $13) Ownership 2.96%
Portland's Jake Layman quietly continues to get things done with huge DFS value. He logged 32 minutes off the bench Tuesday and responded with a 25 point, 8 rebound night. Four games ago, Layman again logged 30+ and he had a 20 point, 8 board outing. The minutes should be there for Layman in what will be a close game with the Spurs. San Antonio 'technically' is playing in a B2B after they lost by 39 points to Golden State Wednesday without Lamarcus Aldridge and DeMar DeRozan.
Bojan Bogdanovic (DK: $5,600 FD: $5,700 Y!: $21) Ownership 6.45%
Another player who gets the perfect combination of minutes and shots lately is Indiana's Bojan Bogdanovic. The Pacers F has logged at least 33 minutes in four straight games and has shot attempts of 17, 12, 19, and 18 over that span. Indiana dismantled the Lakers by 42 points on Tuesday and Bogdanovic still had 24 points in 32 minutes. Can he do it again as another Los Angeles team visits on Thursday?
Center
Karl-Anthony Towns ( DK: $9,900, FD: $11,100 Y! $45) Ownership 22%
It's worth it to pay for Karl-Anthony Towns today for the simple fact that there's not many other people that can score for Minnesota. Jeff Teague and Derrick Rose are both out again vs. the Magic and Andrew Wiggins has struggled, failing to score more than 12 points in the last three games. Towns has gone for 26/18 and 31/12 the last two games. He's got a tough matchup with Orlando's #10 defense vs. the C position but KAT is worth the risk.
Utility Player
DJ Augustin (DK:$4,600 FD:$4,800 Y!11) Ownership 1.62%
Minnesota has been missing three of their PG's for most games during the past 2-3 weeks. The T'Wolves are essentially trotting out 3rd/4th stringers for crucial minutes in the back court and opposing teams are exploiting it. Mike Conley (50.25 fp), Monte Morris (44.25), Conley again (49.25), and Ricky Rubio (39.5) have tore up Minnesota for huge fantasy points the last four games. It's Orlando's DJ Augustin's turn today.
Let's get through the trade deadline and see how the league has changed heading into Friday night's 8 game card. Until then, feel free to follow Carl Taylor (@dailydogsports) for more daily fantasy and sports betting insights and oversights.
