Top NBA Plays 3/12 | No Sure Things in Pro Sports
Didn't get 1st in your GPP and cash a huge check last night? That stinks, but at least you didn't risk $310K on the Raptors to win outright last night to win $73K...and lose. It just goes to show that there's no such thing as a guarantee when you're putting your DFS lineup together. Will the Cavs do it again on B2B nights and upset the Sixers? Does Milwaukee lay an egg at New Orleans? The only definitive answer is...maybe.
Tonight's Headline Games
The Cavs are not only on 0 days rest, they'll be missing Kevin Love who is ruled out for load management. Is it time to back off Sixers players - or at the least load up on the Philadelphia bench?
The International Paint Drying Championships have got nothing on tonight's opposite-of-showtime matchup between the Knicks and Pacers. Combined, these teams have failed to break 100 points over their last five games which, according to today's newsletter theme, means we're looking at a 152-148 finish today.
Despite dropping five in a row, the Mavs are on upset alert as +5.5 home underdogs vs. the Spurs. San Antonio is 12-22 on the road (Dallas 21-12 home) and you'd like to see Luka Doncic (Q-knee) give it a go vs. the SAS #29 defense vs. the PG.
The Clippers are in a B2B but thanks to a 25 point blowout over Boston on Monday, their usage was sparse. The Trail Blazers had been on a roll, but looked a little shaky at home after a long road trip. Now they've got to pack up and head out again.
Guards
Frank Jackson (DK: $5,100 FD: $5,000 Y! $11) Ownership: 12.8%
Frank Jackson has gotten his share of attempts in the absence of Jrue Holiday. Jackson has put up 18 and 20 fga the last two games as Holiday has sat. The Pelicans, on paper, have a tough matchup with Milwaukee (2nd vs. SG) but who knows how the game will play out with the Bucks as -9.5 road favorites. In the last five games Milwaukee has allowed a 65 point game to Donovan Mitchell, 39 to Devin Booker, and 30 to Nicolas Batum. So the potential is there for Jackson.
Brandon Knight (DK: $3,500 FD: $3,500 Y! $10) Ownership 0.52%
The first thing you notice about Brandon Knight is that the Cavs are in a back-to-back, which normally isn't ideal. Knight did play just 23 minutes vs. the Raptors on Monday, much fewer than his back court mate Collin Sexton (36:15) who could see his minutes limited vs. the Sixers. Kevin Love is also out vs. Philadelphia for scheduled rest, so the opportunities should be there for Knight. He's had a 30 and 27 fp night the last two but those numbers should increase with the limited Cavaliers lineup tonight.
Damian Lillard (DK: $9,200, FD: $9,700 Y! $40) Ownership 8.64%
Damian Lillard's production has been up-and-down a bit lately but that can largely be attributed to a brutal 7-game road trip out East. Lillard did go for 51 points when the Trail Blazers returned home last Thursday but he followed that up with just 18 vs. Phoenix on Saturday. Portland is back on the road to LA today, but they've had the last two nights off and it's the Clippers now that are on 0 days rest. This contest should stay very close and that does nothing but good things for Dame's production.
Forwards
Danilo Gallinari (DK: $6,700 FD: $7,300 Y!: $25) Ownership 8.88%
The back-to-back shouldn't scare off people from Danilo Gallinari as he logged just 27:12 Monday vs. Boston. Gallinari still put up 25 points in that span en route to his 5th straight 35+ point fantasy night. LAC has won five straight and tonight hosts a Portland team just 2 games up on them for the 5th seed in the West.
Otto Porter, Jr. (DK: $6,400 FD: $7,500 Y!: $27) Ownership 8.76%
If Zach Lavine continues to rest his sore right knee (D-Tuesday) then there's going to be a lot of points available for players like Otto Porter, Jr. In that regard, it gives the Bulls SF more upside than similar spots such as Khris Middleton at the F position. Porter has three 40+ fp nights in his last six games and has a favorable matchup with the Lakers who just gave up 39.5 fp to Will Barton in similar usage (34 minutes).
Moe Wagner (DK: $3,300, FD; $5,000 Y!:$31 ) Ownership 2.56%
There's great salary relief and upside with the Lakers' Moritz Wagner vs. the Bulls. Wagner is still largely an unknown, just now receiving extended playing time (27 and 34 minutes last two) with the Lakers injuries to Brandon Ingram, Kyle Kuzma, and others. The rookie has looked extensively more comfortable with 21 and 35 fantasy points the last two and has gotten his shots off in both (11 and 13 attempts).
Center
Karl-Anthony Towns (DK: $10,400 FD: $11,700 Y! $52) Ownership 15%
It's Karl-Anthony Towns vs. Nikola Jokic tonight in a huge battle of DFS centers. Towns sat out Sunday's game vs. the Knicks to rest his knee but should be good to go after 2 days off. Towns has two 40+ point outings with 14+ rebounds over his last three games. He has four 70+ point fantasy nights in his last 7 games and had a 31 point 12 rebound night vs. Jokic in February. Of course, as always, pay attention to the injury report on this one.
Utility Player
Jalen Brunson (DK:$5,000 FD:$5,400 Y!: $12) Ownership 7.16%
Tonight's lineup leaves $5,400 for the utility spot, which isn't great. That being said, it's possible to squeeze out a 30+ point fantasy night from Jalen Brunson of the Mavs (or Tim Hardaway $4,900). This is especially true if Luka Doncic sits. The Spurs struggle defending the back court and Brunson has been finding his shot, going 6-13 and 8-11 from the field his last two games.
Overall, it looks like a much lower scoring night. But then again, you never know in this wacky world of NBA hoops. So we'll get our points where we can take them. Until then, check out Carl Taylor (@dailydogsports) on Twitter for more NBA betting talk and DFS news.
