Top NBA Plays 3/16| Keepin' It Close
There's a 7-gamer on tap in the NBA for National Stone Cold Steve Austin Day (3:16). Houston plays though, so that's one potential and perpetual blowout. The Heat are also big favorites over Cleveland and the T'Wolves look in trouble in a visit to the Staples Center against the Lakers.
That kind of narrows things down to a 4-pack, but then again as they said in the Bucket List, "as you get older, never assume a blowout."
Today's NBA Matchups
Jazz (-4) @ Celtics , O/U 227.5, 7:30 PM ET
The Jazz have cooled off, going just 1-3 so far in March while allowing 129+ in each of those defeats. That could make Boston a target, as they've put up 130+ in two of their last three games.
Cavs @ Heat (-10.5), O/U 210, 8:00 PM ET
Oddsmakers are calling this one a 🕯️Blowout Spot🕯️with Miami as double digit favorites. The Heat have won 9 of their last 10, and the Cavs have lost their two games after the all-star break by a combined 52 points.
Lineup Notes: Bam Adebayo (knee) is probable to return.
Knicks @ Sixers (-7), O/U 217.5, 8:00 PM ET
The Knicks were hanging tough in a 117-112 loss to Brooklyn last night, but that makes the short turnaround even harder. The Sixers beat the Spurs by 35 on Sunday, even without Joel Embiid who is out for two weeks after suffering a bone bruise on his knee.
Thunder @ Bulls (-5.5), O/U 225, 8:00 PM ET
OKC won the 1st Billy Donovan Bowl 127-125 in OT earlier this season. That was basically a glorified game of horse between Zach LaVine (35 points) and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (33).
Hawks (-9.5) @ Rockets, O/U 226, 8:00 PM ET
The number is at 16 for the Rockets, and Houston is so bad that Atlanta is nearly a double digit favorite on the road. The latest was a 27 point home defeat to Boston, so the 🕯️Blowout🕯️ is in play.
Pelicans @ Blazers (-1.5), O/U 240, 10:00 PM ET
The highest betting total of the night by at least a dozen points. New Orleans has scored - and allowed - a 135 point game in two of their three back from the all-star break.
Lineup Notes: CJ McCollum expected back for Portland
Timberwolves @ Lakers (-9), O/U 223, 10:00 PM ET
L.A. is on the back to back, but also had a pretty easy go of it in a 128-97 win over Golden State on Monday. Even so, against a bad T'Wolves team some roster shake-up from the Lakers wouldn't be that big of a surprise.
Tonight's Point Guard / Shooting Guard Notables
Trae Young DK $10.2k | FD $9k
@Houston
That's decent FD pricing for Trae Young, as long as the Hawks don't absolutely dominate the Rockets. Young has 50+ in three of four career games vs. Houston, including a 42/13/10 line last January.
Donovan Mitchell DK $8.9k | FD $8.2k
@ Boston
Boston is a top 10 team vs. the SG, but that hasn't been the case lately even with Marcus Smart back the last two. 40fp would seem to be the floor for Donovan Mitchell, as that's what five straight PGs have hit vs. the Celtics.
Eric Bledsoe DK $5.2k | FD $5
@Portland
Would you rather have a play that you love do bad, or a play that you hate do bad? Not a lot of people are high on Eric Bledsoe right now, and how could you be after he's posted a 9 and a 5 in two of the three games since the all-star break - those are fp's not real points. Even so, you play the SG vs. Portland matchup.
Tonight's SF / PF Notables
Julius Randle DK $9.9k | FD $9.2k
@ Philadelphia
Maybe the back to back drives some ownership down? Tom Thibodeau has never really been a minutes conserver so there's still value in Julius Randle playing a Sixers team missing Embiid. Randle played 42, then 38 minutes in his last b2b, going for 50+ fp both nights. He's upped that to 60+ in three of the last four, including 33/12/6 last night vs. Brooklyn.
Zion Williamson DK $8.7k | FD $8.4k
@ Portland
There's a bit of a price drop for Zion Williamson as he hasn't broken 40fp in three games since the all-star break. Those have been a 20-point loss, a 34 point win, and a 20 point win, however. If Portland keeps things close (POR -1.5) we should be right around the pre all-star 🍔50 Burger🍔 levels.
Carmelo Anthony DK $5.5k | FD $5.3k
vs. New Orleans
Seems like a solid price for Carmelo in the game with the highest betting total of the night (by far). Anthony has been pushing 6X this price in 5 of his last 8, taking at least 11 shots in six straight.
Kenyon Martin, Jr. DK $5.3k | FD $3.5k
vs. Atlanta
I think you have to get in on KJ Martin on FD here, as his price hasn't changed despite three straight 30+ fp games. Sure there could be a dropoff if McLemore, House, and/or Wood are back in the lineup but for that price - and against the Hawks - you take the chance.
Aleksej Pokusevski DK $4.4k | FD $4.5k
@ Chicago
Dort, Bazley, and Horford are all in danger of missing this game and Pokusevski has earned more playing time anyway with 33+ fp in two of the last three. The Bulls have allowed 30+ to four straight at the SF position.
Tonight's Center Position Notables
Clint Capela DK $7.7k | FD $8.3k
@ Houston
First off Clint Capela is a GTD with a heel injury, but if he plays it's his first trip back to play his old team Houston. He'll either get Justin Patton, a 2-way G-league player, or Christian Wood playing his first game in almost six weeks. Capela is 6th in the league in fppm, so he doesn't need a ton of time if this game is indeed a blowout.
Montrezl Harrell DK $6.2k | FD $6.6k
vs, Minnesota
Karl-Anthony Towns has picked up his defense for the most part since his return, but Montrezl Harrell still looks like a solid play tonight. He's been in three straight perfect lineups and played just 25 minutes (40fp) last night so shouldn't be affected on the back to back.
