Top NBA Plays 3/28 | NBA Still on Center Stage...Kind of
OK, so maybe it's a pretty solid sports day. MLB opening day, NCAA Sweet 16, and an 8 game NHL card, but the NBA is still pretty relevant today - it's relevant every day for DFS players! This might be one of those under-the-radar NBA days where your opponents are either too boozed up from tailgating at the baseball games or too hurriedly heading out to the sports bars to watch NCAA to do their NBA research. In that case, the LineStar Daily Dribble is here to help.
(We've done our research BEFORE heading out to get boozed up at opening day 🍻).
Tonight's DFS Headlines
The Magic at the Pistons looks like a very ugly DFS game on paper. The O/U is just 207 and 7 of 10 starters face an opposing defender ranked 7th or better vs. their position.
There are some interesting Raptors usage changes with Kawhi Leonard out, but Toronto is up against the Knicks who have lost 4 in a row and 9 of 10.
Mavericks players should also be tread on lightly, as they are up against a Heat defense that has held 4 of 7 opponents to under 100 points.
Finally a game that seems like there will be scoring in is the Kings at the Pelicans (O/U 239). New Orleans has given up 120+ points in 7 of their last 9.
Guards
Emmanuel Mudiay (DK: $5,700 FD: $5,400 Y! $20) Ownership: 16.32%
You have to like Emmanuel Mudiay's role in the Knicks offense lately, taking field goal attempts of 19, 21, and 17 over the last three games. More importantly, those shots came in an 11, an 18, and a 21 point loss, which is important as the Knicks host Toronto tonight. The Raptors may play a little closer with Kawhi Leonard out of the lineup, but that's no sure thing, as the Knicks have been absolutely awful lately (and all year).
Evan Fournier (DK: $5,300 FD: $5,600 Y! $21) Ownership 6.45%
Sure Evan Fournier is in a tough matchup today vs. Detroit, but the Pistons aren't totally invincible vs. the SG. Over the past 5 games, Brandon Knight, Miles Bridges and Klay Thompson have all put up at least 29 fantasy points vs. Detroit. Fournier had posted three-straight 35+ fantasy nights but he fell off with just 22 last time out. To be fair, that was against Miami's solid defense and with Orlando in a back-to-back. The price is right for a nice bounce back for Fournier here.
Dwyane Wade (DK: $5,800 FD: $5,800 Y! $22) Ownership 5.68%
Just because Dallas may struggle to score vs. Miami doesn't mean the Heat will. The Mavs have allowed 125+ in 3 of the last 5 and Dwyane Wade is working on back-to-back 40+ point fantasy nights. Wade compiles nice points in rebounds and assists as well and will benefit from a day off and Miami being in their second straight home game.
Forwards
Sterling Brown (DK: $3,700 FD: $4,200 Y!: $10) Ownership 2.85%
Does Sterling Brown have another 30 point fantasy night in him? There would be tremendous value if he did. You could argue that Brown is only getting better, as the Bucks F returns from a wrist injury. He's only played three games since coming off the injured list, each time seeing more minutes (14, 17, 26) and thus fantasy points (12, 17, 30). There are a lot of mouths to feed on the Bucks, but Brown can be the dark horse here.
Marco Bellinelli (DK: $4,900 FD: $4,800 Y!: $11) Ownership 32.5%
The Spurs are in the 8 seed in the West right now, which projects a matchup with Golden State in the 1st round. San Antonio doesn't want that. The Thunder are just a game up for the 7 seed, which would be much more favorable for Gregg Popovich and Co. The Spurs have the Cavs coming to town today (SAS -12) followed by 2 nights off then home matchups with Sacramento and Atlanta. What this boils down to is a San Antonio whitewashing, which means increased minutes for Marco Belinelli. When Bellinelli logged 32 minutes vs Charlotte on Tuesday, he responded with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Sure, that was an OT game but Pop would be wise to ease up on Lamarcus Aldridge and DeMar DeRozan vs. the Cavs and give Bellinelli more minutes.
Danilo Gallinari (DK: $7,400 FD: $7,400 Y! $20) Ownership 9.96%
The Clippers have rattled off six straight wins and have the capabilities to keep things close with Milwaukee on Thursday. You have to absolutely love the amount of shots Danilo Gallinari gets lately (14+ in six straight). He's scored 24+ points in five of six while also snagging 7+ rebounds in four games over that span. The O/U in this contest is 232.5 and although the Bucks defense has been solid, Gallinari gets his here.
Center
Joel Embiid (DK: $10,400, FD; $11,400 Y!:$50 ) Ownership 19.96%
Joel Embiid seems to be the player to build around on Thursday as Philadelphia tries to snap a two game losing skid. Embiid has had two "down" games in a row with 27/12 and 20/10 which is just a 41.5 fantasy point average. The floor for Embiid vs. Brooklyn tonight has to be 55 points, as the Nets have allowed a 57 point night to Jusuf Nurkic before he was injured and an astounding 72 (!) to Javale McGee in the game prior. Against Brooklyn back in December, Embiid went for 33/17.
Utility Player
De'Aaron Fox (DK:$7,600 FD:$8,600 Y!: $32) Ownership 9.66%
Tonight's lineup leaves $8,000 available for the utility spot. De'Aaron Fox provides great upside in this spot vs. the Pelicans defense that has been leaking lately. Over the last four games, New Orleans has allowed a 57 point fantasy night to Trae Young, 43 to Chris Paul, and 66 to Luka Doncic at the PG position. Fox has 16+ field goal attempts in 3 of 5 and should get his opportunities tonight.
