Top NBA Plays 3/31|In Like a Lion, Out Like a.. Also Lion?
There are angles everywhere on tonight's 10-game slate, but perhaps none more interesting than James Harden facing his old team Houston yet again. The Nets are in a blowout spot as -12.5 favorites and should rest up for tomorrow night's meeting with the Hornets, but Harden has to ring out March the same way he rang it in with 73 fp vs. the Rockets on March 3rd, right?
Toronto is favored by 8 over OKC even after losing 9 of 10 is intriguing as well, as is the Jazz playing Memphis trying to replace 70 real points from Donovan Mitchell (personal) in two wins over the Grizzlies last week. The Bucks are expected to blow out the Lakers and the Kings are underdogs against the Spurs even after blowing out San Antonio on Monday.
All in all, a nice little Wednesday planned for the last night the NBA doesn't have to share with the MLB.
Today's NBA Matchups
Trail Blazers (-7.5) @ Pistons, O/U 221, 7:00 PM ET
This is a great spot for Portland to run their win streak to four straight, but the Pistons don't give up much ranking 10th in the league in points allowed. PGs and SGs vs. the Blazers is a target, but Detroit's starting back court of Saben Lee and Frank Jackson don't exactly scream DFS stalwarts.
Heat (-1.5) @ Pacers, O/U 218.5, 7:00 PM ET
No Victor Oladipo yet for Miami (illness) and it would have been a great spot for a debut in his old stomping grounds of the Hoosier State. It's still the 2nd lowest betting total of the night for a couple of top 10 defenses.
Mavericks @ Celtics (-1), O/U 222.5, 7:30 PM ET
It seems weird that the Celtics are just a -1 point favorite at home vs. the Mavs, but that could be due to Jaylen Brown's (hip) status still being questionable. The C's also just lost to the Pelicans at home on Monday giving up a combined 53 points to Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram.
Rockets @ Nets (-12.5), O/U 230, 7:30 PM ET
Houston got 49 points from their front court combo of Kelly Olynyk and Jae'Sean Tate in a 10-point loss to the Grizzlies on Monday. That could be a target vs. Brooklyn (22nd vs. PF, 25th vs. C) but it's hard to see James Harden ($10.9k) or Kyrie Irving ($9.6) getting value in a potential blowout game. Brooklyn plays tomorrow night as well so rest will be needed - but then again it's Harden vs. Rockets.
Jazz (-5.5) @ Grizzlies, O/U 226, 8:00 PM ET
No Donovan Mitchell (personal) tonight for Utah which has dropped the Jazz line down 2.5 points. Mitchell had 35 points in a couple of wins over the Grizzlies last week, so there's going to be some usage available in his absence.
Knicks (-3.5) @ Timberwolves, O/U 218.5, 8:00 PM ET
Tom Thibodeau returns to his old stomping grounds of Minnesota tonight. The T'Wolves have been getting lit up by opposing PGs lately, the only problem is that the Knicks have 9 of them and none are incredibly healthy.
Raptors (-8) @ Thunder, O/U 223, 8:00 PM ET
Toronto has lost three straight and 9 of their last 10, but are still -8 point favorites at Oklahoma City tonight. That goes to show you how banged up the Thunder are.
Kings @ Spurs (-2.5), O/U 230.5, 8:30 PM ET
Sacramento has shifted from having a horrible defense to a tremendous offense, scoring 130+ in two of their last three. That includes 132-115 over the Spurs on Monday, yet San Antonio is still a favorite here?
Bucks (-8.5) @ Lakers, O/U 221.5, 10:00 PM ET
A quick glance at the standings and it looks like the Lakers are back after posting their first two wins since the Lebron James injury. They also played Cleveland and Orlando however, and only beat the depleted Magic by 3 points on Sunday. Milwaukee has dropped three straight, but the 🕯️Blowout Game🕯️is in play as -8.5 favorites.
Bulls @ Suns (-7), O/U 217, 10:00 PM ET
Chicago has dropped two straight since acquiring Nikola Vucevic (38fp, 42fp) and are a bit banged up in the backcourt with Zach LaVine (ankle) and Coby White (back) a GTD. They get the Suns on 0 days rest after Phoenix beat Atlanta 117-110 on Tuesday, but LaVine doesn't look right with 23 and 22 fp the last two.
Tonight's Point Guard / Shooting Guard Notables
James Harden DK $10.9k | FD $11.5k
vs. Houston
You have to get some exposure on James Harden tonight even in an expected blowout game since the Nets have only won by 2 against Detroit and 5 against Minnesota last game. Harden has 44/14/8 and then welcomed Kyrie Irving back by still going for 38/11/13 the last two (78fp, 79fp).
Harden also likely hates the Rockets, going for 29/10/14 vs. his old 'mates on March 3rd (73fp).
CJ McCollum DK $8k | FD $8.2k
@ Detroit
The Pistons have a winnable(ish) conference game tomorrow night at home vs. the Wizards, so what they should just do is relax tonight and let CJ McCollum launch. It's hard to tell if McCollum is better on the road, or just getting more comfortable after his return from injury but he's hit 40+ fp the last three (all away) after being held to 30 or below in 4 of 5 at home.
Dennis Schroder DK $7.1k | FD $7.9
vs. Milwaukee
This feels like the back end of the Dennis Schroder hot streak (perfect lineup in four straight) but against the Bucks it feels like you can get one more out of him. The debut of Andre Drummond probably doesn't hurt either for pick-and-roll and second chance opportunities for the Lakers offense.
Kevin Porter, Jr. DK $6k | FD $5.5
@ Brooklyn
A lot of guys banged up for Houston ahead of a (likely) fast paced matchup with Brooklyn. Porter has taken 15+ shots in both games back from injury, and that's been with a questionable John Wall (knee) in the lineup.
Jordan Clarkson DK $5.5k | FD $5k
@ Memphis
When Mike Conley missed a game last week, Jordan Clarkson stepped in and went for 45 fp - and that was in the same matchup as tonight against the Grizzlies. Can Clarkson do the same now that Donovan Mitchell is out?
Tonight's SF / PF Notables
Jayson Tatum DK $8.7k | FD $9k
vs. Dallas
Evan Fournier's 0-10 Boston debut on Monday didn't seem to hurt Jayson Tatum's production as he notched 34/9/5. That's his second time in the last three games with 57+ fp, the one not hitting was a 17 point win over OKC. Jaylen Brown may return tonight, but there's still value for Tatum in a close (BOS -1) ESPN game with Dallas.
Kyle Kuzma DK $7.3k | FD $7.2k
vs. Milwaukee
Is the big Hoss Andre Drummond's debut for the Lakers going to have any impact on Kyle Kuzma's output? Could Drummond's presence actually help? The Lakers get a little pace boost vs. the Bucks tonight, and Milwaukee has allowed 40fp to three of the last four SFs they've faced. Kuz has hit a perfect lineup in three of the last four, but due in large part to 8+ rebounds in four straight. Play him one more time vs. the Bucks tempo, then sit a bit.
OG Anunoby DK $6.3k | FD $6.6k
@ Oklahoma City
There's no Kyle Lowry tonight, and OG Anunoby gets a matchup with an OKC team that has allowed the 2nd most points in the NBA over the last three games (118). Anybody could go off for the Raptors, but the Thunder rank 30th defensively vs. the SF position so that's where you start.
Tonight's Center Position Notables
Karl-Anthony Towns DK $9.8k | FD $10.8k
vs. New York
FD is getting a little wild for Karl-Anthony Towns but he's still a play on DK. KAT gets to square off with his old coach Thibs again tonight, after going for 27 points and 15 boards (61fp) vs. the Knicks in early February. New York gave up a 17 rebound to Bam Adebayo their last time out, and Towns has a 12+ rebound double-double in three straight games.
Moses Brown DK $7.1k | FD $6.7k
vs. Toronto
We thought Moses Brown had his "back to reality game" with just 6 points and 9 rebounds on Monday, but that was also in a 21 point loss to Dallas. Toronto isn't blowing anybody out with losses in 9 of their last 10 (except Denver last Wednesday inexplicably) and the 7'2" Brown vs. 6'9" Pascal Siakam will be interesting.
