Top NBA Plays 3/4 | Trae'd Deadline
Trae Young getting tossed for giving Kris Dunn the stink eye yesterday vs. the Bulls brings up a good DFS angle to pursue - the ticked off player. Young had been playing great with 36, 36, and 49 points scored in the three games before Sunday. Is he set to blow up on Monday? It's a back-to-back, but one thing being sent to the showers early does is lower your usage (18:03).
It's a great sized 7-game card in the league for Monday. The Knicks are out West and the Knicks of the West (Lakers) are also in action. Let's get to it:
Tonight's Headline Games
The Lakers are fading fast as they are now 4.5 GB from the Spurs for the 8 seed in the West. The Clippers (+4) have 0 days rest but beat the Knicks by 21 yesterday, so their usage was minimal.
The Hawks are also on a back-to-back and it's evident in the spread as the Heat are a 9 point favorite. Atlanta is missing John Collins and Taurean Prince which opens up some backup slots.
Are Ricky Rubio ($5,900) and Rudy Gobert ($7,900) the stack option for the night? They combined for over 100 fantasy points the last time the Jazz played the Pelicans.
The Spurs have looked good, finally getting back home after the Rodeo Trip. The Nuggets come to Alamo City on Monday in what should be a very close game.
Guards
Emmanuel Mudiay (DK: $4,900 FD: $5,800 Y! $18) Ownership: 3.42%
You like the ownership on Emmanuel Mudiay in this one and it's easy to steer clear of the Knicks in a back-to-back situation. The Kings have lost 5 of 6, however, and the game will be much closer than the SAC -11.5 spread. It's worth it to get somebody in the NYK backcourt rostered vs. a Kings defense that has allowed 61.5, 64, 36.75, 67, and 27.75 fantasy points to the last five PG starters. Dennis Smith, Jr. is the bigger name, but lately Mudiay has had the bigger game.
Trae Young (DK: $9,300 FD: $9,200 Y! $38) Ownership 12.66%
The price has gone through the roof but it's to be talked out of getting Trae Young in the lineup on Monday vs. the Heat (besides the cost). OK so Miami has been playing well vs. the PG (5th) and Young just had a 4OT game on Friday but you have to love the ceiling here. Young is the freshest Atlanta regular after playing just 18 minutes yesterday and the Hawks will likely also be without John Collins (flu) and Taurean Prince (personal). Granted, he played 56 minutes vs. the Bulls on Friday, but Young took 33 shots and also dished out 16 assists. It was the 3rd straight game of 22+ field goal attempts and Young still managed 9 before getting booted on Sunday.
Lou Williams (DK: $6,800, FD; $7,400 Y!:$29 ) Ownership 8.88%
The Clippers are on a back-to-back on Monday but thanks to the 21 point blowout vs. the Knicks yesterday, Lou Williams logged just 21 minutes - and still had 18 points and 6 assists. The whole NBA is ready to pounce on the Lakers right now but perhaps none more than Williams. 1) he plays for the Clippers 2) he used to play for the Lakers and 3) after the Lakers acquired LeBron James this Summer, Williams went on record to say the Clippers are still the "better team in LA."
Forwards
Derrick Favors (DK: $5,800 FD: $7,000 Y! $23) Ownership 13.92%
Derrick Favors of the Jazz has been on a nice run lately, especially Saturday vs. Milwaukee where he went 10-12 from the field and grabbed 18 boards. He posted back-to-back 37 point fantasy nights prior to that, so it would be nice to keep that trend going. Utah plays the Pelicans on Monday and over the last five games New Orleans has allowed a 51 point fantasy night to Tobias Harris and a 41 point night to Paul Millsap, two similar players.
Kelly Olynyk (DK: $5,300 FD: $5,600 Y!: $17) Ownership 23.52%
Can the O-Train continue Monday night vs. Atlanta, which is on a back-to-back? Kelly Olynyk has been outstanding with increased usage lately, having a 28, 21, and 25 point scoring night over the last four games. James Johnson, Hassan Whiteside, and Goran Dragic could all miss the contest vs. the Hawks, who are battling some front line injuries of their own - not to mention being fatigued.
Bogdan Bogdanovic (DK: $5,600, FD: $6,800 Y! $25) Ownership 17.1%
Sacramento's Bogdan Bogdanovic had a down fantasy night Friday vs. the Clippers, but it was just because his shot wasn't falling and not due to lack of opportunities. Bogdanovic was 3-15 from the field vs. LAC which was a hard follow up to his 10-22 from the field night Wednesday vs. the Bucks. Either way, you like to see the usage that Bogdanovic is getting (35 and 43 minutes) in the wake of the Marvin Bagley III injury. New York is going to keep it closer than people think tonight so it should be another night of heavy court time for Boggy.
Center
Lamarcus Aldridge (DK: $7,700 FD: $8,600 Y!: $31) Ownership 5.52%
Ownership is down on Lamarcus Aldridge on Monday as Denver is 1st vs. the C position defensively over the past 5 games. Look at the offensive talent they've faced over that span, however - Mejri, Zubac, Adams, Gobert, and Okafor. None of those players have the offensive capabilities of Aldridge, who has posted 18, 22, and 21 field goal attempts the past three games. Yes, Aldridge is going to have his hands full defensively vs. Nikola Jokic but the Spurs expect to be in a close battle on Monday and the opportunities for their big man should be there.
Utility Player
Alex Len (DK:$4,000 FD:$3,700 Y!: $11) Ownership 1.22%
Tonight's lineup leaves just $4,600 available for the utility spot which requires some digging for value. The best ceiling for that slot seems to be Alex Len of the Hawks. Atlanta is on a back-to-back, but Len played just 27 minutes vs. the Bulls on Sunday. John Collins is a GTD but if he doesn't play, Len should continue the production that has seen him average 26 points and 9.5 rebounds the past two games - granted both were against Chicago.
Some interesting games on tap for tonight. It's a good opportunity to fine tune strategy as there's a very similar 6 game slate scheduled for Tuesday. Until then, check out Carl Taylor (@dailydogsports) on Twitter for more NBA betting talk and DFS news.
